I was given an initial written price of $50 before dental service, then facility stated they made a billing error and charged me $188.40.
On May 1. 2017, I was charged $50, in advance, for dental work my insurance covered which they had me sign. On May 18, 2017 the Sr. Clinical Administrator for the Faculty Practice, Marina Jimenez, stated in front of her staff member that she approved waiving the remaining charges that were due to her staffs billing errors. On June 21, 2017, Marina left me a voice mail stating she had signaled her staff to waive my co-pays since she acknowledged her staff were responsible for the billing error. I would not have chosen their location if I knew they were going to charge me more than twice the price they originally approved.
I want the USC dental facility to bring my balance to zero and to provide me some type of a credit for all my troubles.

The $50 charged to the patient was for his insurance co pay as dictated by his insurance company and also stated in our office information /application, in which he acknowledged by signing.
All treatment fees presented to patients are estimates and dependent on coverage by insurance.
In May 2017, per the patient request, I met with him to discuss his grievance. I requested that a staff member be present, who had been involved with managing his insurance plan despite the patient adamantly requesting her not to be involved in the meeting.
At the time, the patients treatment plan/estimate of services was processed, his insurance company quoted a fee and it was presented to the patient, in which he signed.
It was then discovered, after his signing but during the 3 phases of his treatment, that he had an alternate insurance plan with a 20% copay (and $50 deductible). The patient insisted that we honor the originally presented Treatment plan despite the language that states that it was "an estimate of services". During the meeting, he stated that was not prepared to pay his 20% co pay. After much discussion, I agreed to look into honor the treatment plan as he signed it , total owed $992 (includes $50 ded) ; he will be billed his $50 copay.
After I did investigate the situation with our Finiancial dept., I was made aware that waiving co pays for patients is illegal and I let the patient know that I was rescinding the offer.
As a courtesy to the patient, we processed a dispute claim with his insurance co., in which was denied.
We regret we were not able to achieve a mutually satisfying resolution however, ultimately, it is the patient/insurance subscribers responsibility to be aware of their co pays, deductible details and eligible benefits as dictated by their insurance company.
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Respondent agreed all my statements are true but did not offer any solutions, e.g., manager could offer a full credit to my account once I pay the full balance she states is required legally by law.
