I visited this business 06/18/to have several things done to my Ford Escape One of which was to get the transmission fluid and flushed and changed I left the truck with them and went to run some errands I was called later to tell me the truck was done and I can pick up I did and paid which was the bill On October 13,I went to get the oil changed in my truck at Oil exchange who told me my Transmission fluid was very dirty and needs to be changed asap I was like wait I already had this done in June and they said looks like they didn't do the work I took my truck back to levin and asked them to please check my trans fluid and sure enough they agreed that the work was not done and in fact that the did not have the right equipment on site to change the fluid I did get me money back for the service but I am still not happy The fact that the transmission fluid was not changed probably caused my engine issues The guy at the oil place said that the engine did not sound good Since the business did not have the correct equipment to change the fluid, I felt they scammed me Surely, I was not the first person to go to this business with a Ford Escape to get transmission fluid changed and I should have been told that upfront they couldnt do it instead of them pretending to do a service and then charging me

Well Cheryl, it's been almost a year now since you crooks tried to charge me over a $1000.00 for a two wheel brake job.

I told you I would let you know if I did not have any problems with the parts you guys wanted to replace. You replied, "Please do." Well, that's why I'm here again. A year, and several thousand miles later, those parts are still working problem free.

I'm sure you people don't lose any sleep over a few escaping your rip off tactics. Sadly, I'm just as sure many other of your unsuspecting customers have fallen victim over the past year. However, I do make it a point to try and warn everyone I can about you guys.

"CROWN POINT RESIDENTS, BEWARE OF LEVINE TIRE ON MAIN STREET." I too am a Crown Point resident, and I do try to support our local businesses. However, this company has destroyed my trust, and I won't ever again do business with them.

My vehicle recently had a brake issue, and I unsuspectingly took it there for the necessary repairs. They informed me the problem was with the rear disc brakes, and everything needed to be replaced. This included the pads, rotors, and calipers. Total cost of the repairs, $1005.93. I didn’t like this price, especially considering it was for the rear brakes only. I instructed them to do nothing to the vehicle, and I would be in to get it shortly.

The next day I dropped the car off at a second auto repair shop in the area. A few hours later they called and confirmed the problem was indeed with the rear brakes. They informed me the pads needed to be replaced, and the rotors resurfaced. The total cost of the repairs would be $245.00. I asked if there would be a problem resurfacing the existing rotors. They indicated there would not. I asked if they noticed any problem with the function of the calipers. I was told they appeared to be working properly. They made the necessary repairs, charged me $245.00, and I was on my way. The original problem was gone, my brakes were working fine, and I had saved $760.93 from “Levine’s” price. I of course was happy with the final cost, but not so happy that “Levine’s,” a local business, had attempted to charge me four times the amount of what I actually paid.

A day later, I revisited “Levine’s,” and spoke with the lady manager. I presented her with the estimate she had given me, and also the receipt for the actual repairs. I requested an explanation for the huge price difference. She stated the difference was due to them planning on replacing the calipers and rotors. I asked why they would replace them if they were not in need of replacement. I pointed out this appeared to be the case, as my brakes were working properly with the parts they were going to replace. In regards to the calipers, her explanation was, “they appeared to be sticking, and she was pretty sure I would have a problem in the future.” She offered no opinion as to why the garage that did the repairs failed to share this opinion. Considering this garage is also in business to make money, it seems to me they would have been quick to point out any malfunctioning parts.

I should add that before going to “Levines,” I had first gone to an auto parts store where I got an estimate for the calipers, and rotors they were going to put on my car. During our conversation I mentioned they were charging me considerably more than what I had just been quoted. She stated, "all business’s have mark ups." I stated I was aware of that, but theirs was well over double the cost I had received. Her explanation was, “they use “A.C. Delco” parts, and they cost more. After further discussion on the matter, with me continuing to expressing my displeasure for their attempts to charge me an additional 400%, and her defending trying to replace, what I felt were unnecessary parts, we ended our conversation.

Upon returning home, I went “on line” to find the cost of the "A.C. Delco” parts in question. Again, it appeared “Levine’s” mark up was approximately 120% over the cost of each item. Which to me seems excessive.

Based on this experience, I feel I am justified in believing “Levine's” business strategy is to drive up profits using an excessive parts mark up, and to then go about the business of replacing parts without regard as to whether replacement is actually necessary.
