Herrington's Auto Service Reviews (1)

I brought my car to this mechanic to have repairs done. I paid a total of $1200 for the repairs and they did not fix the problem. On the 22rd of October 2014 my 2002 [redacted] started to overheat when I started it in the morning. Not being able to drive my vehicle I had it towed to Herrington's Auto I was called later that day the owner who I dealt with . He told me that he had found a problem with the intake, that oil was leaking into the coolant which was causing the overheating. I asked that he also fix the muffler while the car was there and for an estimate on all the work which was $1200. I told him to go ahead with the repairs.I was called later that day and informed that the repairs were complete and I went in the next day to pick up the car. I drove my vehicle home without noticing any problems but on Oct 27th the car was overheating and pouring out coolant when I started it in the morning. I called [redacted] and told him what was happening and he told me it should be ok to drive there if I put water or coolant in it. I followed his advice and ended up overheating on the side of the road. I had the car towed again back to Herrington's. I went back that day to see what was going on with my car they told me that they had to spend an additional 2 hours flushing oil from the coolant system and said that they had tested the vehicle and it was ok. I drove the vehicle home again and everything seemed ok, the next morning the car was overheating and leaking coolant again. I called [redacted] again and informed him what was happening and asked if I could have it towed there at his expense. He told me again to put water or coolant in it and drive it over. I followed his advice and ended up breaking down on the side of the road. I called [redacted] from there told him my situation I was in for the second time because of his advice and requested he send a tow truck at his expense, he agreed to do so. I called him later that day to find out what was going on with my car. He informed me that now he thinks there may be something major wrong with the motor that it was collecting air and to leave it with him and he will see what he can do. I left the car with him over the weekend and went in to see what was wrong with my car. He then proceeds to tell me that there's either a crack in the engine or the head gasket has gone on the car both of which would require a new engine. I was of course not happy with this having just spent $1200 to repair the car. I questioned him on the fact that he did not fix my initial problem of the car overheating. He then told me that he could not have found these problems at that point without unreasonable measures. Desired SettlementI would like a complete refund in my payment method since I now have to scrap the car because I can't afford to do further repairs. Or I would like them to return my vehicle to operating condition as I requested in the first place.Business Response I am writing this letter in response to the complaint that was filed against Herringtons Auto Service here are the details the customers name was Mr. [redacted] called me and told me that he was towing in his vehicle because it was running hot I checked the car out and found out that it was low on coolant I located the leak at the intake manifold which is very common in that 3.1 [redacted] motor so I called him up and told him that the intake was leaking badly I gave him a price on the intake and thermosat and he said to me I also want the muffler and tailpipe replaced he agreed to the price I fixed the leak 3 days later he had a overheating problem I told him to bring it in and I flushed the cooling system at no charge then he took the car and phoned me the next day and said it is heating up again so I paid for a truck from [redacted] to [redacted] I checked the system out and diagnosed it had caused internal damage to the motor because he ran it to low on coolant previous to the job being done. I repaired the leak (I did not rebuild his motor). Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I did tell him to go ahead with the repairs after ensuring with him that he felt this would fix the problem with the motor which it didn't proven by my 2 returns for the same problem (engine overheating). He also fails to mention the fact that he told me that the car would be ok to drive as long as I put water in the cooling system after telling him that the car was overheating in the parking lot on both subsequent returns. Basically I came to him with a problem and I'm not disputing that he did repairs to the car.Thank you,
