Review: I wish to complain about Hertz rental company, most of all your [redacted] Va. Airport Location ([redacted]) where I received my rental vehicle on 8/30/2013. I used Hertz for my rental car needs because you are the company my insurance chose to use.

I am complaining because I was given a rental car with expired tags ( the vehicles tags expired in July). Which I did not realize until I drove to the Hertz [redacted] Location to pick up another rental car (because the one I received from [redacted] Va. Airport needed to be returned.) I could not process the transaction for the new rental car because I was not aware of the $200.00 deposit that would be requested of me once I had already paid over $300.00 to reserve the rental. So I figured I would just take the original rental back to the [redacted], VA. Airport Location and turn it in in the morning, and get a rental somewhere else (which I should have done in the first place). Only then I was told that I would not be able to take the original rental vehicle back to [redacted] because the rental was expired (which we later found out it was, however it was still open) and that The Hertz representative could call me cab to get myself, my one year old son and my fiance (who missed work to witness the madness) a ride back to [redacted]. Once we realized it would be OK to drive the rental back to [redacted] so at least we could get back, we were told by the gate attendant that we could not leave the [redacted] Location because the Rental vehicle tags were expired. This is truly unacceptable. I do not understand what kind of company rents out a vehicle with 2 month old expired tags. You provide a service to customers and whether it is me paying , or my insurance company is paying for the service, your company has failed.

What I can tell you is that the employees at the Hertz [redacted] Location were very helpful in what they could do which wasn't much but understand my situation at the time.

Luckily we were able to have a friend come pick us up. The next morning I called the [redacted] Va. Airport Location and told them where the rental was and why. The Representative I spoke to basically said "I'm sorry that happened to you." and that was it. So I asked for the number to corporate which she did give me.Desired Settlement: A an apology, a refund for charges charged to my debit card, an update on how the company will stop the issuing from happening again.
