Improper roof installation resulted in damages to rafters, soffits, and drywall. Buyer beware!

My shingle roof was originally installed by the contractor in 2011. No starter strip was installed anywhere on the house. This allowed water to get under fascia boards and damage soffits. No corner flashing was provided at one corner resulting in damage to a rafter and garage ceiling drywall. No corner flashing was provided at another corner resulting in a damaged rafter tail and wood soffit. Instead of cutting openings in soffit for new vents, the contractor just drilled a few small holes. Care was not taken in installation around chimney flashing allowing periodic wind driven rain into the attic. By the contractor's own admission, all of this was "unbelievable"; unlike anything he had ever seen before.

The contractor initially seemed responsive at fixing problems. They have made 7 trips to my house. However their incompetent efforts generally just caused more problems. Numerous times the contractor applied caulk without properly addressing the flashing problem, which functioned only to force more water into the house. I had to do some investigation work to determine that no flashing was installed. It was not until I accompanied them on the roof that the first flashing problem got fixed. They pulled up some siding and did not properly secure it when finished. When we later got some strong winds that took the siding off I fixed it myself.

When they installed the starter strip they slapped down some strips of ice and water shield which are now stuck to my leaf guard. They also nailed the leaf guard down to the deck! The leaf guard is supposed to be removable but now I can't get it off and shingles are not laying down flat.

When a plan was developed for solving the second corner flashing problem the contractor lacked the internal communication to carry it out properly. They replaced the rotted rafter tail, but did not install the flashing as planned. After they failed another attempt at a leak proof fix I finally decided to fix the flashing myself. I am still left with water damage to deal with.
