Re: HFL Solutions Feb. 18, 2 020
Knowing I had begun caring for my disabled son and needed repairs in order obtain a reverse mortgage (FHA approved loan), I had to hire a licensed professional.

Anthony (Tony) C. presented himself as a licensed contractor and was referred by *** Real Estate, Tarpon Srings, FL. Knowing my primary concerns he agreed to repair a water leak behind my kitchen wall and bring my deck up to code for permitting while providing me with an architectural? drawing by a licensed architect. I agreed to pay $1,200 extra for the architect he had hired. He never would provide me with the name of the architect and insisted it would 'make him feel pressured if we pushed him'.

After tearing out concrete block from the outside of my kitchen he could find no pipes. I then called the leak specialist back to confirm the leak and Tony broke through dry wall under my sink. He was supposed to replace the entire pipe from kitchen to bathroom but only replaced an angle stop under the kitchen sink. I paid him $50.00. He then dismantled a portion of my deck, told me he installed hurricane straps, would raise outside gate, took measurements, assured me the architect would be getting the drawing started the following week and obtain a letter of no contest from Duke Energy for me. All this was requested by the city of Gulfport for permitting of my deck and above ground pool. I paid him $250.00.

Tony removed 2 glass pieces from my french doors and took the wood trim. I cannot find them. This repair was never made.

On the days after a payment was made Tony did not show up for work. On no occasion did he tell me if he would be late, not show up or that he was sending unknown/unapproved person in his place. I tried to be accommodating but he eventually abandoned the job. From approximately Jan. 24 to Feb 13, 2020 (when a woman he called his wife but I later found to be his boss and possibly finance walked out on the job) very little work and very much damage was done to my home. Tony had quit showing up and had sent her to do his work.

The following work was agreed upon and was to take about 2 weeks. $2,500 deposit paid
toward $10,045 total cost for the following.
Deck brought up to permitting code
Architectural drawings of deck were to be provided (extra $1200.00)
Hole in concrete repaired and painted
Garage doors pressure washed and stained
Driveway pressure washed and sealed
Leak behind wall found and pipe replaced
Kitchen countertop sanded, stained, polyurithaned
All kitchen cabinets inside and out sanded and stained
Tile floor removed and new tile/trim installed in kitchen and 2 baths
Bathroom vanity, medicine cabinet replaced (I purchased), light fixture rotated and cleaned
After counter top complete new sink, faucet (I purchased $500.00)
12. Repack shower head (I purchase)
13. Raise outside gate (pool protection)
14. Replace 2 pieces of glass from french doors and replace the wood trim
15. Paint the front door ( I purchased paint and brushes)
16. Replace screen on back door
17. His son or friend was a licensed electrician to repair my A/C (I would pay directly)
18. Find someone to make small repairs to my roof.

Although this may seem like a lot for $10-$12,000 most of these jobs were small and easy. That's how he 'sold? me on hiring him.

I made numerous trips to the store if anything was needed. I purchased the stain samples and none of them were usable.

In the end my kitchen was left unfinished and I was unable to obtain my loan without appraisal.

Once again I asked Tony if he was a licensed contractor and he said 'Yes, check it out on sunbiz.org". I did and found he was working for Jennifer D. and no proof was found that either were licensed.

After they abandoned the job
Sanding was not complete on the kitchen cabinets
Doors (partially sanded) to cabinets were taken off and in the garage
Daily for a month I had to clean floors and almost everything in my house because no barriers were done correctly. A the cellophane like plastic was taped to exits, did not work.
My driveway had lead paint peelings on it
My kitchen sink was left dismantled and unusable
Paint scrapings were left all inside my microwave vent and on counters
Wood shavings were EVERYWHERE
Only a portion of the floor tile was completed and proper spacing was not done
Way too much tile was ordered and I was not given he receipt to return it (he assured me it could be returned).
Every night and day I had to keep my puppy on a leash or in her kennel because the environment was unsafe in every way.
I found razor blades, nails and spacers on the floor and on the ground
The cleanup is still in process, he brought a maid for 4 hrs. (she 'didn't do floors')
I provided many of the items he needed because he did not have them (paper, tape, brooms, ladders, buckets, towels etc.)
Items were stolen when they left (brooms)
I asked Tony if they would return and finish the job, he said he would call me noon on Friday, Feb. Feb. 14 to discuss but did not.
He left a trailer full of junk in my driveway for a month, never came to recover it. I had to have it hauled off at the police's request a week later.
Tony tore my shelving out of my cabinets, told me bought $1,000 worth of wood to replace them and line cabinets. All are destroyed and no wood was left at my house.
Toilet was removed, put in tub removing newly refinished work previously done.

In the end several professionals have come to offer to finish and give estimates. All agree that the wood on the cabinets would never have taken the stain properly and never looked good. The wood was too old and the grain not consistent. I can provide photos along with expert opinion.

The work was done with no proper protective equipment. Lead paint was removed improperly. No barriers or covers were provided to protect the workers, my son, myself or my puppy. Vents were not co

Desired Outcome

Billing Adjustment Repay all the money I paid HFL Solutions. I had to hire numerous professionals to repair the damage they did to my home. The health issues cannot be repaired. I need the name of architect and contact information. $50 repair angle stop in kitchen $250 add straps to decking $2500 downpayment on cabinet refinishing never completed/damage to cabinets In the end, my loan was held up, if not denied. I will pay thousands more to repair the damage incurred by HFL Solutions

This reply was taken verbally by Revdex.com:

We did not do any work that would require a license. Any work that required a license we told the customer we could recommend someone and get them in contact with the licensed company.

We sanded down the cabinets to be stained and we provided all services as per contract. The hole in the wall that the customer is referring to was done because the customer asked us to put a hole in the wall to see if there was a leak and because there was we were not able to patch the hole up until the leak was fixed.

The customer never told us that they were firing us and has not paid for the job in full. We had a cleaning person out to the customer's house and the customer refused to pay for the cleaning so we paid for it. The customer even kicked the cleaning person out of their home so that was not able to be completed. Regarding the brooms, we purchased those from the Dollar Store and if the customer wants them we will bring the brooms to them. The customer had our trailer towed from their house and is still in impound which is costing us $100.00 a day.

I stand behind my complaint. I am mailing photos to back this up. These people/company virtually destroyed my kitchen, left a huge mess and lost parts and pieces that I had to go out and purchase.

Photos are being mailed today. Please attach them to my file. I was unable to download them. Do not close this out, please.

HFL Solutions Response • Mar 26, 2020

As stated in discussion with Revdex.com. We had a contract that was emailed to Revdex.com and client; the client has made claims that are not included in the contract and were never discussed.
1) We never stated to the client that we were a licensed contractor. As stated to client, we are a handyman service. This is on our business card also.
2) Client requested help in getting design/engineered drawings to have her existing deck permitted. When the client had her pool and deck installed by another company, that other company did not permit clients deck. We stated we knew of companies and could get the engineered drawings for her to use for permitting of her deck. Then she would have to have the existing deck (that surrounds her pool) permitted. HFL did not install or build existing deck.
3) Client had leak detection come to her house due to an ongoing leak in her kitchen, leak detection stated that there was a leak in the wall behind her sink. Client stated and requested to open area and correct leak. Leak was not found in wall. Leak detection service was called out again by client and leak was indicated under sink cabinet. We opened up the bottom of the cabinet under the sink and fixed the small leak. The cabinet was not closed up or sealed, due to discussion with client to have leak verified had been stopped by leak detection service. If was agreed that when we got to the stage of new shelving for her kitchen cabinets, we would then replace the bottom panel. As stated, client did not let us finish the cabinet project, so this was not completed.
4) Tile removal and replacement was part of contract. Tile was 85% completed when client told us to leave the property for that day. Tile could not be completed due to this. We were in last stage of tile and multiple boxes of tile were sitting at clients house to complete project, including mortar and grout.
5) Client requested we help in finding someone to help clean her house. Located help and brought them to the house. Once the house was clean, client refused to pay cleaning person, this is the same day that client stated for us to leave for the remainder of the day.
6) As stated before, to the cabinets, client went to the store for sample stains, the stains that the client picked up were the wrong type of stain base and color that the client wanted. HFL picked up several more stains and client choose one of the colors. We have receipts to show that HFL did pick up stains for the cabinets and were going to purchase larger quantity of stain, once the client chose their color. Cabinets were at 75% completion as of the day that we were asked to leave early. We were finally done sanding, and we were going to move forward with installation of the shelves and staining of the existing cabinets.
7) Client never informed us that they were ending our contract. Client asked us to leave the property early because they were upset about the cleaning payment issue. Our utility trailer was left on clients property as per agreement for removal of trash from projects. Client had trailer towed from property without informing us that contract was cancelled. If we had know that client was canceling the contract, we would have removed our trailer.
Last conversation with client, stated that we would come back to the house in (1) week of time and finish all of the projects. Tile installation, cabinet staining, staining of garage door and sealing of driveway. We were informed that the trailer was towed by the towing company the Monday that we were supposed to start back on client projects and also received the letter from Revdex.com on that same day.
8)Brooms - I have receipts for the brooms that were purchased, used on clients property and then taken with us when we left for the day. We did not take clients brooms.

If the client would like to resolve this issue, we would complete the work, but the client can not be on the property during working hours due to existing conflict. Due to the Corona Virus, we could not be in close contact also.

We would also have to be paid up front the remainder of the contract and the cost of getting our trailer out of impound; this would have to be paid by the client also.

We always stand by our projects, and have several references on hand to provide for anyone. We have never had a client cancel on us or ask us to leave a project.

It is unfortunate that the client would exaggerated and try to hurt a small business. Especially since we went above and beyond on any request that she had made. As we removed all her appliances out of the house with assistance from her son when asked, even left the house early on days that we were asked so she could take a nap.

I really do not know what else we could have done and I am totally confused on how we went from an agreement of one week return to work,(so the client could have a break from all the work); to where the client was not happy and cancelled contract, had our trailer towed/impounded and made a complaint to Revdex.com.

Sincerely,
*** C.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I have no desire to hurt this small business company. I'm simply wish to make then aware that they should not delve into projects they are not equipped nor trained/capable to do. Clearly the lack of personal protective gear and protection for the owner's belonging shows they have no concern for their health, the customer's health and the overwhelming mess they leave behind each day.

I am willing to cut my losses, as I have already had to take out a reverse mortgage on my (completely paid for) home and will absorb the loss. I was forced to hire another company to complete the job they abandoned and were incapable of finishing after a month and a half.

It's clear the company cannot even afford a broom. I have already paid another company to finish what they could not. The new company completed an entire kitchen in approximately 2 weeks.
HFL Solutions should not expect any further money from me. I've lost enough.

The leak behind my wall was not found by tHFL Solutions, hence, had they completed the job all would have been for nothing. Another company removed the entire wall to find the lead AND mold. All was treated. I have photos and witnesses. Pipe photo below.

Kitchen is finally finished by another company and house livable but I'm still cleaning up the mess.
