H.G. Construction Reviews (1)

Review: Currently, contractors have teared down our neighbors house and building a new home. They tore down the house without any notice and there was asbestos. When I asked the contractor if he could explain the project he responded with, "I don't have to tell you anything."

For the past two weeks there has been a porta potty abutting our property, which smells terrible. It is on bricks and dangerously close to tipping. Today he had tree trimmers near the porta potty trimming a tree. His subcontractors had large branches land on my yard and was on my property without my consent. When I asked them not to trespass on my property the contractors began to scream obscenities at me in front of my young daughter. My daughter was scared and the other neighbors also raised their concerns with the aggressive nature of their behavior, The building inspector said I could call the police, but I was afraid of escalating the situation in front of my daughter.Desired Settlement: I would like them to remove the porta potty, not trespass on our property and give some notice of any big projects that involved our property. I am very concerned about the hazardous nature of the project especially since our garden is only a couple feet away from their project and we would like to enjoy the vegetables for the rest of the season.

Response:

Response to complaint # [redacted] I am the contractor for this project, 1. I have no reason to give anyone notice regarding tearing down the property There was asbestos which was removed by a licensed company She approached me and asked why she was not notified as to the new building, there is nothing that required notifying anyone as I am building by right. The portable toilet has been moved She created a large amount of confusion as she did not understand I can cut branches on my tree The reason the tree people were speaking loudly was as the man was using the chain saw cutting the notch she came out of her house yelling for the lead man to get off her property, this caused them to lose focus on what they were doing luckily no one was hurt We do not intend on trespassing on her property and will be installing a makeshift fence to that end. So this does not move to the next level she is not to trespass on this project nor is she to engage any of the subcontractors in any conversation. Her interference will not be tolerated as there is nothing going to happen there which will concern her. Thank You [redacted]

Response:

His statement is not accurate. I have never gone on any property without permission. I have attached photographs of the debris on my property and his worker on my property. The old placement of the porta potty is also in the picture. When I did call the town they said that a contractor should always ask permission if their work would involve a neighbors property and said I could call the police. I don't like to escalate any situation and chose not to involve the police. I look forward to the project moving forward without any additional inappropriate behavior or language but until he can admit that his behavior was wrong I am concerned. There is a big difference between speaking loudly and swearing/screaming at your neighbor who only asks that you request permission before using their property. The porta potty has been moved and we appreciate that gesture. I am looking forward to the fence, but would not consider his project to be under the minimum standards of good business practice. I am still concerned about this project and any future projects. I do hope that at the end of this project my opinion regarding this contractor has changed and look forward to a respectable safe environment for my family and all the other neighbors. Regards, [redacted]
