Hickman Building & Remodeling, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: Hickman replaced the wood on our 2nd floor deck with expensive IPE (Ironwood). Initial construction seemed OK when the job was completed at the end of November 2013.

The premium coating that he used has been flaking off and now one-half of the deck has a very ugly streaked and weathered appearance.

Hickman was notified of this over 10 month ago. Additionally one month ago he was given notice that the Revdex.com would be informed if he didn't fix the problem. He has at times been sympathetic to the problem, and indicated how he would repair it, but has done nothing to repair the damage.Desired Settlement: Sand and refinish the deck.

Additionally he said he would caulk the area where the deck meets the house. This is necessary because of apparently improperly installed flashing during the initial installation. He has not done this.

Review: Hickman was asked by me to provide an estimate for small carpentry projects at my home (4 in total). He provided a verbal estimate of $150 and asked if I would be willing to barter my consulting services in exchange. I told him yes, but that my hourly rate was higher than his at $200. He agreed to the terms. On July 26, 2015 at 11 a.m., he came to my home and for 75 minutes I provided consulting to him regarding his [redacted]. His primary goal was to understand how to crowdfund money to raise $5,000. As an expert on crowdfunding, I walked him through the important considerations to create a successful campaign and ran preliminary numbers for him based on his cost of goods which explained that he would have to raise $10,000 in order to net $5,000. If the average donation was $25, then he would need 400 donors. The next step was for [redacted] to go back and create a list of his social network contacts to determine if he knew enough people to conceivably execute this type of campaign.

left my house with a verbal commitment to complete the work that coming week. On July 31st in response to emails from me, Glenn communicated that the following week would be better. Subsequent emails between me and his wife, [redacted] continued to delay the work. I also left voicemail messages for both parties over the past two weeks and there has been no response. I went by their office (home) on Monday, August 17 and no one answered.

I believe based on the lack of response, that Hickman does not plan to fulfill his part of the agreement.Desired Settlement: Either do the work or pay me for my time.

Business

Response:

Just for the record. I just want to say that after being in business for 24 years I only had 1 Revdex.com complaint, about 10 or so years ago. I never did any work on their house yet, but they complained that the planning stage was taking to long and I said it was because of their lack of decision making. We met at the Revdex.com offices with a mediator and I won the case hands down. As far as this complaint goes I have been very busy running my construction company and also running my start up food company.that is why I made a barter agreement with her. I never said I WOULD do her work the next week I said I MAY be able to do her work the next week. In this day and age a typical project will have some change orders and during this time every job I was running had multiple change orders. Including multiple change orders at the project I was working on down the street from her. I can prove that to the Revdex.com or the complainant. Because she knew I had a lot going on I was "more than a little surprised" at her reaction to me not being able to make it that week.More than that during the discussion of our barter she "NEVER" told me that sh needed or expected it to be done by a certain time. And I am sure she will not say she did.So we will send her the money even though to be honest here she had asked me at the end of our hour + was I pleased with her work,I said yes ,but only to not hurt her feelings.I truly learned more on my own.She is way over priced. Thank you Glenn from Hickman Building & Remodeling

I am rejecting this response because I have not received any money.
