Review: My son was sexually assaulted by a teacher at the middle school where he is a student. Due to this he was hospitalized in psychiatric inpatient hospital as well as a case started with the Roanoke Police. Due to this he is unable to be in Roanoke as he is suicidal and has this horrific experience to deal with. We decided it is best to have him remain with his father in [redacted] so memories of Roanoke would not impede his hopeful recovery. I requested an approved a transfer with the Department of Veterans affairs to be closer to him in [redacted]. He is suffering and needs as much support as we can give him. Hickory Woods apartments want me to pay the remainder of my lease which runs out in August. Even though I am completely broke at this point, have enumerable expenses due to the health care, the move and nevermind the emotional toll and heartbreak this has taken on us. I have given them 60 days verbal notice but they want thousands of dollars even though they are able to rent out the apartment with plenty of notice and make money with no issues.Desired Settlement: I want to pay until I move out in 60 days. This is reasonable and gives Hickory Woods time to find a new tenant and not force me into bankruptcy due to horrifying situation that has befallen my family already. I don't believe we need to suffer more. I am not asking for anything for free. Just not to be completely stomped into the ground by these unethical and inhumane practices and policies.

When this resident approached our staff regarding our lease termination policy she was given the same options available to all residents. We strictly adhere to Fair Housing laws. Once I was made aware of the circumstances I immediately reached out to this resident to obtain additional information so that an exception could be considered by my supervisor.
