I brought my transmission to High Gear to have it placed on a [redacted] to verify that I had a problem. Instead, it was taken apart without my permission.I have been chasing a noise in my[redacted] transmission for some time now, and after finally thinking I had it narrowed down to the transmission, I decided to carry it to this company. I was told over the phone that I would be able to have it [redacted] to see if anything was wrong with it, and although I asked several times to be able to pay for it, that it would be free. I dropped it off at the shop with strict instructions to [redacted] it before anything was done to it, and to contact me with the results and we would possibly move forward with a rebuild. I left it overnight and called the next day a little after lunch because I had not heard back on the status of it yet. I was told that the transmission had been [redacted], they had found a noise, and that it was completely disassembled in their shop, and they THOUGHT they had found the issue and wanted to move forward with the rebuild and get it billed out. I asked to have my transmission back because I did not approve that and I was unwilling to pay for something I was not even sure I needed. I got it back in a box completely torn down. All I can do is hope all my parts are there so that I can attempt to reassemble. I called the owner,[redacted], the next day to inform him of the bad business I had just experienced at his shop. He heard my story, and half way admitted that they had messed up. When asked what I wanted to do, I suggested (thinking I was being gracious) that he pay the shipping to and from[redacted], I would pay for the parts, and he would put it back together and send it back. He claimed he would think about it and call me back. I never received a call. Upon calling him back, he was no longer willing to consider that deal, and said all he could do was have me ship it there and back and pay for the entire rebuild (not willing to help at all). I am shocked at this type of business practice. I believe that I brought my transmission in, and being that I was a young guy, the salesman saw this as an opportunity to make some money. Rather than take my transmission and do as I asked, he had it torn down to a point where a normal person could not repair it. Luckily have the ability to repair it, but I did not have the [redacted] to determine if I even had a problem to begin with. This business practice is unacceptable, and I believe that this has happened before to other people and will happen again.Desired SettlementTo have the unit replaced.Business Response CASE #40099533[redacted]I SPOKE WITH MR[redacted] LAST WEEK. TOLD HIM IF HE WOULD RETURN HIS UNIT AT HIS CONVENIENCE WE WILL FIX HIS UNIT AND HE CAN PAY US........OR NOT. WHAT EVER HE WANTS TO DO.HE SAID THAT WAS FINE.THANKS, [redacted] HIGH GEAR
