Review: Last year I purchased a home and the floors needed to be resurfaced. I hired High Sierra Hardwood to resurface the entire house. There were some initial issues (and I had been warned by previous customers that one had to stay on top of [redacted], owner of HSH, to make sure he would do a good job)that required that he come back and redo areas in the house that were improperly done (he claims his hired helper was at fault for having put new surfacing material over a dirty area on the floor that had obviously not been properly treated) and he neglected to do some facing that were part of the hardwood floor area. There were other issues with the workmanship of the job, but I let them go because I didn't want to be a "complainer." I'm over that now.My current complaint is that it is less than a year since the floors were resurfaced, and the product he used on my floor has not held up. I have seen the hardwood floors of many other people who have dogs (I have only one) and the scratches do not show up the way they do on my floor. A friend recently had him do her floor, and she was very dissatisfied with his work. She had him come back twice to redo her floor for a variety of reasons including sanding gouges, bubbling, and streaks in her floor. However, her floor,a few months old now, does not show the scratches that mine does and did within the first few months, and her dog's toe nails are as long as my dog's nails. There's no appropriate reason for my floor to look so terrible after eleven months. I take good care of the floor, using the mop and product he recommended, which I bought from him. Recently, I asked [redacted] to come back and look at the floor and he came, took a few photos (that did not necessarily show the scratches in all their glory), and he showed me a contract I signed saying I was responsible for wear and tare on the floor. I realize that the consumer has responsibilities for the care of their home, but I think he used an inferior product on my floor, that has not held up!Desired Settlement: I want one of two resolutions: I want the floors sanded and resurfaced with a product that will hold up, or I want a full to partial refund 100-70%. The floors currently look almost as bad as they did before he did the job.

High Sierra Hardwoods only provided a service. We did not install flooring. Our service was to refinish the floor.

I have attached our original agreement upon completion which includes the statement about scratches being the customers responsibility. [redacted] has signed this statement at the bottom.

I also included my written note to [redacted] upon inspection of the scratches, dated 2/22/14.

I had my kitchen hardwood floor refinished by the owner and wanted to stain it a different color. After sanding, he applied the stain which he sells in his business and it was blotchy. It wasn't acceptable to me and so he sanded it off. He told me to purchase another type of stain from a local vendor which I did and he applied that one which also resulted the same blotches. He told me he wasn't able to accomplish the look I wanted and therefore left it the same natural color. I wasn't happy about this and I have since come to learn, he didn't know how to perform this process in the first place and that an experienced floor person would not have had a problem accomplishing a routine floor refinish. I called him back a few days later as the varnish was unacceptable showing fibers, hair, etc. stuck to the finish. This was suppose to be a total 2-3 day job that lasted over a week and I'm still not happy with the floor. Highly recommend using another business, even if you have to go outside the area. He charged a ridiculous amount for poor workmanship that he wasn't obviously knowledgeable about.
