Higher Education Relocation Specialists Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

10pt;">The reply from the company has lots of logical issues and they did not show any sincere to solve the problems.(1) When I approached the company, I was told the final cost should be based on the actual cost. Before the movers come to my home on March **, I reported to the contact person that we have packed almost everything except the furniture. That was the reason that the company changed mind to pack and upload on the same day. All the small stuffs were packed into over 40 cardboard boxes by ourself. The clothes were packed into 8 luggage carriers, and some of the surplus clothes were packed into packing bags instead of GARBAGE BAGS. Currently, most of the carboard boxes are unpacked, and all the cardboard boxes were kept. In the Attachment 1, pages 1-3 show some photos for the evidences of luggage and cardboard boxes, and page 4 shows the receipt for buying tapes and gloves. The company replied that the movers provided packing materials and labor.  This does NOT mean they provide a FULL service to pack everything. My question is that why the company claimed a FULL pack service and did not credit our efforts? This is the first logical issue.(2) The company claimed that “the long distance truck (55' tractor trailer) could not access his residence and a shuttle service was the ONLY way to facilitate delivery.” My home in [redacted] is inside an apartment garden and there is sufficient space to park a truck (see the [redacted] map in in the attachment 2). While I don’t think it is necessary to use a shuttle, I did not challenge it. My question is that the company should show evidences that they DID used a long distance truck and transferred to a shuttle for the move. Obviously, the company did not answer this question. This is the second logical issue.(3)  The company claimed that “this customer was given a dollar allowance from [redacted] and basically will say anything in an attempt to not have to pay anything out of pocket.” “We are a reputable firm that moves hundreds of faculty for many prestigious universities around the globe.  It does not make any business sense that we would risk our reputation to try to gain a few hundred dollars revenue unfairly from a customer. Some people just don’t want to understand the facts, when it means they owe more money than they want to pay.”  Although the bill waspaid by [redacted], it was also my money in my startup package.  Because most of faculty don’t need to pay anything out of packet, they chose the most simple way to accept the bill. It does not mean the company has done good business fairly to the customers. This is the third logical issue. That is why I would like to spend more time/cost to fight for that. Although my gain is limited and may spend more for this procedure, it can benefit lots of otherfaculty members who will relocate and use this company. (4) The company claimed that “this customers actual costs came in lower than their estimate.”  This does not mean the company has done a fair business to the customer. By comparing the estimates and the invoice, we can see (a) Because we packed/unpacked the TV by ourself and we did not movethe refrigerator, the cost for third parties was reduced from $791 to $361 which means a reduction of $430. (b) The total cost for moving 10600LB in the estimate is $7515, while the final bill for moving 9380LB is $7492.  This implies that a reduction of 1220LB only result a reduction of $23 in the bill. If it is true, the whole cost for moving 9380LB should be 23*9380/1220=$177. I don’t think it is fair to the company if I only pay $177 for the moving. This is the fourth logical issue. Therefore, the final actual cost is lower than the estimate does not mean a fair business.

Review: I am a faculty member of UMass [redacted] (UML). When I received the offer letter from UML, I was contacted by the [redacted] (HERS) for relocation service, and I accepted the service and made a purchase order through UML (see pages 4-10 in the attachment). However, the final invoice shows that the charges are not based on the actual services, and it is significantly beyond the actually services. The main problems are as follow:(1) When I called for service, I was told that the final invoice will be based on the actual cost. Before the movers come to my home on March **, I reported to HERS that we have packed almost everything except the furniture (see page 1 in the attachment). This means that I don't need a full-pack service any more. Some pictures of our cardboard boxes and receipts of tapes etc in pages 38-41 in the attachment. The original schedule was to pack on March ** and upload on March **. Due to our great efforts on packing, HERS and their partners changed the schedule to pack and upload on March ** within 8 hours. Obviously, this was impossible without our efforts. However, a full-pack service was charged (see page 42 in the attachment). (2) Additional shuttle fee is charged without any justification and evidences. When I interact with HERS, [redacted] (the president of HERS) insists on that the result was caused by my fault (see pages 19-37 in the attachments) although I provided the evidences that I have no responsibility (see page 12 in the attachment).Desired Settlement: (1) HERS should honor our efforts on packing. A full-pack service charge is not acceptable. (2) We can not pay for the additional shuttle service except HERS can provide evidences (a) to justify the the needs of the local shuttle service; (b) to provide the evidences of the moving procedure of my stuffs. (3) We can not pay the invoice before the aforementioned problems are solved.

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Higher Education Relocation Specialists regarding complaint ID [redacted].In fact, I have checked with my institute and the invoice has been directly paid by my university from my funding. Because all the cost are paid by faculty members' home institute from the faculty members' startup funding, most of the faculty members prefer not complain because they usually spend more time and money and gain less. Obviously, this company take the advantages of faculty members. I have figured out all the details how my stuffs were moving and the procedure IS NOT what they claimed. That is why I ask them to provide the evidence. Sincerely,[redacted]
