MrRick Hunter did a complete build-out of my basement including compliance with the county license and paperwork needed Hunter Home Improvements exceeded my expectations Not only were they professional but completed the job weeks ahead of schedule MrHunter and the workers paid attention to the tiniest detail and made adjustments to ensure the work was 100% complete before conducting walkthru's with me and my husband I will recommend him to anyone needing small, intermediate or large home repairs I will definitely use his services again for the sunroom Im planning

[redacted] is a very nice man but he is not good for home improvement projects. RUN, DON'T WALK. I REPEAT, RUN from this man. His work is terrible and he is very unprofessional.
He is a general contractor that I hired to paint all of my walls, including all of the trim, my master bedroom ceiling and kitchen ceiling, install 2 ceiling fans, install backsplashes above the countertops in my kitchen, install chair rail around my dinette area, install new countertops and flooring in two of my bathrooms. He told me that it would take about a 4 to 5 days to complete the project. He also advised that he knew a guy who has a nice selection of granite countertops that he could put me in contact with. He therefore opted out of installing the bathroom counter tops but would coordinate the countertop work with this guy. I did notice that [redacted] wrote nothing down, no contract no nothing; this did strike me as very odd for a professional. This is how the project went.

Day 1
He brought 2 very nice gentlemen (helpers) with him to prep the house. They were supposed to het there around 9AM, they got here after 2PM. They moved furniture, taped for painting, removed wall plates, and did general prepping upstairs only. They left at about 5:30pm. I met the countertop man Sunday and picked out the countertop I wanted, so he came over around 7pm to get measurements and a deposit. He and I went upstairs to get the measurements and found that my bed that I was supposed to sleep in that night was encased by my dresser and chest of drawers. He was nice enough to move the dresser back for me. He was supposed to come back Wednesday to do his install.

Day 2

[redacted] and his 2 helpers arrived a little after 9AM to do more prepping upstairs and downstairs. 12pm two painters came, they appeared to be doing a decent job. [redacted] left shortly after the painters got there while his 2 helpers (men I do not know) stayed. One of the 2 painters acted as if I was supposed to provide them with water. I didn’t mind but I would think they would bring their own bottled water. The painters finished with my 3 upstairs bedroom, two upstairs bathrooms and hallways. They started on the family room and left around 4:30. No upstairs trim as been painted but the painters are done with the upstairs. Meanwhile the 2 helpers who had not had lunch waited around for [redacted] to return. He returned around 5:30 with a couple of sandwiches for his helpers who had to be starving; they leave around 6pm.
This project is moving really slow and I’m starting to feel like I’ve hired the wrong people. My bathroom is painted, the old counter tops have not been removed and the new HEAVY granite tops and backsplashes have to be install. Now i’m no general contractor, painter or installer but I have since enough to know that you should remove the old, install the new BEFORE painting the walls. I determine that the accent walls are just way too dark and decide that they have to be repainted a lighter color. I get that sinking feeling in my gut that [redacted] is clueless and that I should fire him.

Day 3
[redacted] arrives around 9:30 AM. I had a discussion with him telling him why I hired him (an acquaintance’s boyfriend) and how displeased I am with how this project is going. I also told him that I was concerned that none of the trim has been done, nor had the ceiling in my master bathroom. I told him that I didn’t like that he would leave for most of the day and return when it was time to go home, I told him I see that I was not getting his undivided attention, and with the money I was paying that was not fair. He replied that the job did not include trim or the ceilings. I reminded him of our conversation about both and told him that I would not have accepted that price if it did not include these things. I was ready to fire him at that point but he said that he would go ahead and include the trim and ceilings. Fine. I told [redacted] that the project was just moving too slowly and I absolutely had to have everything completed by Friday, period! He said “oh, we’ll be finished by tomorrow evening for sure. If we have to come back Friday, we’ll be done by noon.” “And, you’re going to be happy with the work when we finish.”

He got his helpers started. I guess he had another job while he worked on mine so, of course he left again. When he returned around 4:30, he started cutting the chair rail and installing it. They worked until around 6:30. We all went to the Home Depot to find another accent color.

Day 4

At 7:30am, I call the granite installer to see why Wednesday has passed and I have not seen or heard from him. He says he’ll be here tomorrow and he has not even talked to [redacted].
[redacted] and only 1 of his helpers arrived around 9:30am. The floor installer came shortly after and was finished around 2pm. I went into my bathroom and where the floor was longer than the 12 feet vinyl, he had to cut and match it up. Another sinking feeling in my gut, the cut was crooked and didn’t match up at all, and, it was not completely glued down. I notified [redacted] of this and he said that he would get the guy back out there. Where is he getting these incompetent people from? By noon, a couple of Hispanic men came and started on the trim and the ceilings BEHIND where the painters had painted. Painters get [redacted] because trim painters are “F’ing” up their work. I’m seeing white paint marks on my grey walls! I want to cry.
I have to give it to [redacted] for today, he really gets down to business and work today, and does not leave for whatever else he has going on. If only they had worked this hard all week…
I asked [redacted] why has he not coordinated with the granite man. His reply, “oh, I left that between you and him”. Yeah, but you are the GC who you say you have worked with this guy before, and shouldn’t you be talking to him since you are in charge of the whole project. Rich [redacted] finally calls the granite guy and they finally coordinate for Friday, the final day. Furniture everywhere, my house is in complete disarray. I’m seeing paint on top of trim, trim and paint on the new flooring and on my hardwood floors downstairs. And, the painters are finished, gone! I want to cry but I just pray for a miracle.

Day 5
[redacted] and 1 helper arrives around 9:30am, two trim helpers arrived shortly thereafter. The flooring man comes back and fixes his mess in the bathroom. I had to leave 5 men who I knew nothing about at my house. I did some serious praying and headed out in rush hour traffic, it took me a little over an hour. As I’m on my way back [redacted] calls me to tell me that the water supply lines in my bathrooms are too short with the new granite counter tops, worse case I would have to buy new faucets if they can’t make it work. Upon my return I find that the granite guy and his 3 helpers messed up the nicely painted bathrooms walls by removing the old counter tops and installing the new. I bring this to the attention of the counter top guy and he gets his guys to “fix” it in both upstairs bathrooms. I had to leave to pick up my car. Not only did the sheetrock guys mess up the paint, they messed up the sheetrock. They fixed it but not correctly and left. Counter top man thought he was about to get his money, NOT! He had to call them back to properly fix it. Since [redacted] had agreed with the granite guy that he would do the actual plumbing, he had to fix it. Meanwhile, he is sweating bullets because he is nowhere near finished and it’s 8pm. He has done only part of the back splashes and has not done a walk through with me on the painting. [redacted] goes to the Home Depot twice to get new plumbing to make the water supply lines reach the faucets. He returned from HD at 10:15pm. His poor helper had to do the plumbing while [redacted] screwed up the backsplashes around my kitchen. At 1AM I’m seething! I’ve decided I will deduct for what he has not finished or screwed up. Since I was home alone with 2 men, I went and go my gun in case he wanted to get stupid with me. I was ready to shoot him either way.
At 2AM, yes, 2AM, [redacted] tells me that he’s finished and ready to leave, as in pay me now. I ask him when does he intend to do our walk through. He says “well I check and everything is finished”. I’m at the top of the stairs looking at blue sample paint on my white door frame that I had addressed with him a day earlier. I also tell him that they did not put my grandbaby’s top of the stairs gate back. He says to me “It’s 2 O’clock in the morning”! “You’ve got to be kidding me”, he says. Lord! Why this man want to tell me what time it is when the ONLY reason I’m up cleaning at this hour, with my gun in my pocket, is because of his incompetence! And, I’ve got to pay him?! [redacted] keeping me in my right mind is the only reason this fiasco didn’t result in me being in jail right now! But, the lion did end up coming out of me. I started pointed out all the paint on my hardwood flooring, all the paint on the trim and everything else that had me [redacted] off. He knew he was not getting paid until all of the corrections had been made. And, “tomorrow” was not an option! And by the way, my backsplashes look like [redacted]. They are very uneven and has glue on top of them. They look alright in the dark.

[redacted] is very incompetent. He may be capable of building a dog houses but he knows nothing about home improvement.
