Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I explained to one of the employees in the office that I still had concerns and that particular employee came to my apartment on that evening and stated she did not feel like there was moisture. I complained another time due to having trouble breathing. I expressed I had a concern for mold  and they sent out maintenance men who lifted up a piece of the carpet that had not been affected and made an accusation that I had left a window open. I also complained about carpet that was not completely dry and had not been lifted up in my bedroom because they thought water did not come through that area, I complained about ants that had surfaced since the incident. As for turning off the fan, yes I did and it was due to the air blowing dust throughout the apartment causing me to use my inhaler even more I informed the same employee who stated to leave the fans running and I did. The fans were not turned off for a long period of time. Yes, going through the leasing process with the property manager, I did review all information with her, however, at the time I was not aware of renters rights in Illinois and I have found that in instances where an illness or health concern a lease can be broken. I submitted a letter from my doctor to the property manager. At the time of my meeting with her I was fresh out of the hospital and my health was and is the main concern. I never wanted it to come to this that is why I decided to not renew a full lease, however, the near fatal asthma attack caused my fear of staying the remaining time. No one will never know what it is like to have had your children see you stop breathing and have to call 911 unless they have lived it so of course there is no empathy. I did not feel like packing up and leaving and taking my children from their element so sudden but because of my health I did what I had to do and I tried to do it in peace. I do not feel I should have to buyout of the lease. My neighbor moved out on the same day I did and had black mold in her apartment, which, everyone knows that mold grows and travels through vents. The same day I moved another neighbor had an incident with their sprinkler and had to have their carpet dried up. The couple beneath me prior who had experienced the sprinkler incident twice was accommodated by the complex with a new apartment and was let out of the lease after the second time when he threatened to have an attorney. Why am I not able to be relieved of the remaining three months with out financial obligation and have resided there for three years? I was faithful to my lease even if I had to pay late fees I cooperated.
Sincerely,
[redacted]

Resident had a sprinkler head that popped in her apartment back in March.   Our company has systems in place that must be followed anytime that a apartment floods or has moisture issues.    Maintenance and Contractors treated the apartment accordingly to policies and...

procedures.     Blowers & dehumidifier were left in the apartment to dry up the apartment however the resident turned them off during the drying cycle.  Once all work was completed and apartment restored back to original state a follow letter was sent to the resident in April letting them know that if they are still having an issue to notify the office immediately.     The resident did not contact the office until June 28 for maintenance request for moisture in the master bedroom.    When maintenance went to the unit they found that the window had not been closed properly.     They did a moisture test and found no moisture in the apartment.     Resident came into the office in July to discuss transferring or breaking the lease.    The resident requested unit without carpet due to her hospitalization, which she stated she didn't know what it was from.    We do not have units without carpet therefore she asked what she would have to do to break the lease.    I explained to the resident the buyout policy which was a 30 day notice and two months rent to buyout of the lease.    At the time of our discussion she was fine with the giving notice and paying the buyout fee prior to her moving out.    However, since she has moved out she is now upset that she is being charged the buyout fee which was clearly explained to her.  The resident at this time can't get another place due to the balance she owes HighPoint.    She came into the office to make payment arrangements however our company policy is that all accounts be sent to collections immediately.    If resident wants to setup payment arrangements she will need to do this with the collection agency.    The resident will not be released from the contract nor the balance which is due for breaking the lease contract, which is a legal binding contract.
