Highway 70 Car Care Reviews (3)

This business put the wrong type of part on my vehicle causing it to damage other parts and mechanical functioning. On April 25, 2014, I took my 2007 Ford Expedition to Highway 70 Car Care to assess why it was stalling and the acceleration was slow. The vehicle's catalytic converter was scanned to see if this was the cause of the problem. We were told that the passenger side (right converter) needed replacing and was given a repair cost of approximately $485. I gave authorization to do the repair and Highway 70 Car Care installed a catalytic converter. About five (5) months later, the vehicle began malfunctioning again displaying the same stalling and acceleration issues that existed prior to the so-called repairs done at Highway 70 Car Care, but much worse. I contacted Highway 70 Car Care and advised them of the existing issues involving this vehicle. I was told to bring the vehicle back in so they can scan the converter to see if it had gone out again. Out of an abundance of caution, I took this vehicle to a reputable muffler and catalytic converter mechanic and was told that the vehicle had a "universal" catalytic converter put on and this part was not the correct part and Ford does not recommend using this part. Further, the installment of this part caused the left converter to overwork and it damaged this converter as well as blow out the spark plugs and its wires. I took my vehicle to two (2) separate Ford dealerships' mechanics and both literally affirmed what the reputable mechanic assessment was. My wife took the vehicle back to Highway 70 Car Care and carefully explained the details of what the other mechanics told us. One of the business owners tried to defend their incompetent work without looking at the vehicle to determine if the other three businesses were correct. Instead, they wanted to argue and make contentions that they apparently were more knowledgeable about Ford manufactured vehicles than the Ford licensed mechanics and a muffler and converter specialist. I called and spoke with a person who identified himself as being an owner. I discussed these issues and provided him with the information that was given to me from the other mechanics. He told me to bring the vehicle back in so that it can be scanned to see which converter was causing the problem. The vehicle was dropped off and the owneracknowledged that the converter that his business installed had gone out and he would honor the warranty. When the vehicle was taken to Highway 70 Car Care, a so-called mechanic told me to leave the vehicle in the parking lot (because he had no intentions of doing the repair) and asked my son to crank the vehicle. After "listening" to the vehicle for about 15 seconds, he stated that there were engine problems and the engine need fixing before they can replace the converter. I told him that the only problem this vehicle had was that incorrect converter that they placed on the vehicle and three (3) separate competent mechanics all agreed to this fact. I left the vehicle and called the owner. He told me that he would not honor the warranty because he "felt" that something was wrong with the engine. I explained to him what everyone else had said regarding replacing the converter first because it was causing all of the other problems. Instead, he began whining about my wife snatching a receipt from his delicate hands about a month earlier and calling it an assault. I told him that he was once again incorrect and this was not an assault. He wanted this receipt snatch to become the focus of his inept mechanical work and continued trying to explain why this constituted an assault. I then told him that I not only retired after a 25-year career as a law enforcement officer both a patrolman and supervisor, I now "teaches" law. This would be the first in the history of law if this constituted an assault and millions of people would be arrested for this offense. He abruptly hung up the phone and this would be the last time that I talked with anyone at this business. The vehicle was repaired by this reputable mechanic and has been working since. Desired SettlementI am requesting to be reimbursed the $485 for the incompetent work that was done by Highway 70 Car Care, $1300.00 in (correct) parts and installation which includes the spark plug and wire replacement. Business Response Customer originally brought the vehicle in on April 25, 2014. We found that the converter was damaged and replaced this part. On June 26, 2015, customer came back in and stated that the converter we installed was bad and the wrong part. We installed the right cut in converter from AP Exhaust. We contacted AP Exhaust to verify that we had installed the correct converter and AP Exhaust verified that we had. We found the vehicle to be running very bad and found a misfire on multiple cylinders. An engine that is misfiring will damage the converter. We informed customer that we would not warranty the converter until the engine was repaired. Customer refused repair so Hwy 70 Car Care gave the customer two new converters to be installed at a different repair shop. Customer still has two of our cores valued at $110.00 each and at this time, AP Exhaust will not honor the warranty without the return cores. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)It is apparent that Highway 70 Car Care concur with my contentions that there is no option of replacing the correct catalytic converter with a universal one because they did not provide one shred of proof that this option exist. Instead, they provided only some EPA standards that are totally irrelevant to parts replacement. If they had just one document stating that a universal converter would be appropriate for replacement, they would have uploaded a dozen saying so. They have one major problem, one does not exist. It only exists in their incompetent mind. EPA standards and catalytic converter replacement are two totally different conversations. I will show you the two junk universal converters that Highway 70 Car Care gave my sons and the correct ones that were purchased and installed by competent mechanics. When I showed the mechanics that installed the correct parts on my vehicle the two converters Highway 70 gave me, they simply shook their heads and laughed. Incompetence is laughable. Once again, they put the wrong parts on my vehicle causing the other catalytic converter to malfunction and blowing out the plugs where they had to be extracted. The correct procedure for fixing my vehicle was replacing the converters "first" then changing the plugs and wiring. My vehicle has been running perfect since. So, Highway 70 Car Care was totally wrong in every regards related to the repair of my vehicle. I also noticed that in Highway 70's response to this complaint, they were trying to subliminally indicate that I was operating outside of the warranty period by stating "Came In 4-25-14 One year later Came In 6-25-15 We not only warintey one coverter but we went on and came him (2)". Wrong again and this only shows that they are deceptive and will lie about every aspect of this complaint. When my wife snatched the receipt from this "so-called" owners hand, this was in March 2015 and I called to advise them that the vehicle was not running properly two months before that incident. If it were outside of the warranty period, they would have simply stated this fact and this would have been a non-issue and I would not be lodging this complaint. It is instead, glaringly apparent that they simply do not operate a reputable business and do not make any attempts in righting their wrong. Their incompetence and deceptive business practices has caused me $1,244.35 in repairs that would not have been incurred if the correct part was put on my vehicle in the first place. I am requesting to be reimbursed $1,244.35 for their incompetent actions. Final Business Response

I brought my truck in to get serviced for new tires. I get my truck back and the tires are worn on the rear tires and my turbo is not working now.I brought my truck in to the shop on 7/7/14 to purchase new tires. The lady at the front was extremely helpful and gave excellent service. She worked with me to get my tires put on that day. I received my truck back at 5:45 pm. Upon receiving my truck, I noticed immediately that something was sounding off about my car. I had someone look at it the next day and he indicated that something was wrong with my turbo and asked me if I had noticed that all the tire nipples had been worn off. I looked and he showed me everything that he saw. We had both concluded that the tires had been spun and that something had happened with the turbo when this occurred. I called Highway 70 to simply talk to them about it. The lady who answered the phone was the same one who was so helpful yesterday. She listened to my questions and asked me to come in. I came in and she received me. She told me that I needed to wait to speak to the owner and that he was out but showed concern for the situation. The owner arrived and asked me to come into his office. I sat down with him and a differently lady who was also accommodating the day before. I start talking about what I was seeing and was experiencing. He busts out laughing during the middle of this and I asked him what I said that was so funny. He said to continue as he adjusted his laughter to a smug grin. When I get done talking to him about my concerns, he proceeds to tell me how long he has been doing this work and all of his experience and how great he was. I said that all of that was great but I wanted to talk about the situation at hand. He proceeds to tell me that he knows what my problem is and that he does not need to even look at the car. This goes back and forth for about 10 minutes and I tell him that it is insane that he is not even looking at the vehicle nor the tires and yet he can make conclusions. On about the third change of story of "Oh I know exactly what it is......", we finally go out to look at the tires. First he says that there is no issue and then that changes to well the issue isnt his fault and then he tells me to try and contact the Manufacturer about the issue. His son is watching all of this go on from behind the window, I motion for him to come out and give his opinion. Him and his dad(the owner) proceed to tell me to please put my hands on them and I explained to them that I am not into guys or here for a fight for whichever he was referring. This was a terrible experience at this place and for them to immediately be on the defensive without even hearing about the situation is sad. I see that they have 2 other complaints in this category and it is easy to see why. With each new story in which they claimed that this happened, it all revolved around them passing the buck. It is apparent the dysfunction that occurs at the place is obvious due to an old man who thinks that he is God and a son who is a hothead. I paid $1,600 for the tires and was happy with the product I received. I had some questions about what could have happened while my truck was in their possession and I was not given the time of day nor their service in looking into the problem.Desired SettlementI am not sure what I want at this point due to me not knowing what is wrong with the turbo. It could be as simple as putting a hose back on or something simple like that. I need to figure out what all is wrong in order to determine what the issue is. [redacted] was a prior customer of Highway 70 Car Care and has ordered tires from our shop before. He returned in 2014 for new tires. He has a Ford F250 diesel super duty truck with 146,062 miles on it. When he brought his truck to our shop on July 7, 2014, it was noted in our paperwork that his check engine light was on. We agreed to put new tires on the vehicle. At no time did we spin his tires or race his engine. The vehicle was driven into the shop bay; lifted upon the hydraulic lift; and the new tires were installed, aligned and balanced. The vehicle was then parked until such time as it was delivered to **. [redacted]. **. [redacted] never asked that we check his engine to determine why the check engine light was on or to determine if there was any problem with the engine. Several days later, **. [redacted] returned to the shop stating that the "nipples" on the tires were worn and that there is a problem with the turbo on his engine. We assured **. [redacted] that we did not do anything to his vehicle other than mounting, aligning and balancing the new tires. Further, we offered that if he was dissatisfied with the work that we had performed we would take off the new tires, replace his old tires, align and balance the old tires at no charge and refund all of his money. **. [redacted] declined our offer. At that point **. [redacted] became upset. We deny the allegations in his complaint that we did anything to engage him in any sort of aggressive or challenging behavior. We did everything we could to de-escalate the situation. Highway 70 Car Care provided the service **. [redacted] asked for, which was new tires. We did not do anything to damage the tires in the installation process or in the delivery of the vehicle. Indeed, we offered to give him a full refund for the tires he purchased. Moreover, we did not do anything to damage any part of his engine. We did nothing to damage his vehicle and we are not going to undertake the responsibility to repair his truck under the pretense that we are responsible for whatever damage has occurred to his truck engine as a result of other problems with his vehicle wholly unrelated to the service we provided. Again, the check engine light was illuminated when he delivered the truck to us to install his new tires. We believe it is unreasonable for **. [redacted] to file a Revdex.com complaint over this matter. As always, if there is any way for us to amicably resolve this complaint in a reasonable manner, Highway 70 Car Care stands ready to make the customer happy, if possible. Sincerely,[redacted]

Over the past 5-7 yrs I have used Hwy 70 for all of my tire and exhaust needs. I have purchased about 18 tires from them for my vehicles and trailers, 2 exhaust systems, and refereed numerous people to them. So this is not a once and done experience. In the past year I have really noticed a huge drop off in quality of work. In August I took my wheel barrel and a small pull behind trailer up there for new tires. I wanted 4 new tires. When I went to pick them up, after the work was completed, I was in a rush. The new guy charged me too much for the tires, which I caught. We loaded them very quickly so they could close up. When I got home I noticed a trailer tire , AND a wheel barrel tire were both flat. It is only 3 miles to my house. I took them back the next day, they were repaired, but no real apology was offered, and no discount. This bothered me, but I had always had good experiences before, so I left it alone.
Recently I also had a new exhaust system put in by Hwy 70. The previous system they put in had started to rattle, and I went to talk to them about it. The system was 4 yrs old, so I did understand there being some ware and tear on it. Josh, the owner, and I looked at the system and found the the brackets holding the system in place had failures in the welds. He explained that they have seen this problem from these brackets, and they had quit using them because of that issue. So when I got a new exhaust system I assumed they had been replaced. I was installing new shocks on my truck at my home, and I noticed not only had they not replaced the brackets, they rewelded the broken old brackets to my new system. I went to Hwy 70 to speak to Josh about his. I was upset, but I did not yell, I just expressed my frustration. He never apoligized, never addressed their mistake, he just attacked me and told me to have a nice life. ","neg-1
