Review: In December 2013 we had [redacted] come out to our house to give us an estimate for a fireplace insert. He was inline with the pricing for the other companies that we had out. We choose to go with him because he was a smaller local guy that sold American made products. We purchase a Vermont Castings Monteplier insert for $4000. We gave him the $2000 deposit and he came and installed the unit and we paid him the other $2000 after he put it in (Friday, January 3rd). Right away we knew it wasn't working right. He gave us a burn time of 10 hours and guaranteed it would heat our home without having to have the furnace kick in. Not only did it not heat our home (the furnace kicks in at 64), we never got anything longer than a 3 hour burn time. When he installed it he left a gapping hole at the back of the fireplace that he ended up coming back and stuffing it with insulation. It still didn't help. We asked him to remove the unit and refund us our money. I had put a stop payment on the second payment of $2000 because we were to pay on completion, which it wasn't done yet. Anyway, he agreed to remove the unit and refund us our $2000. He came on Tuesday, January 21st and removed the unit. He gave us a $2000 check from his business that he put a stop payment on. Not only did he write us a bad check during the coldest winter in year, he came into our house and stole from us.Desired Settlement: We want a refund, but will be contacting a lawyer. I would just like it known for others to see because I looked for reviews on this company before we went with him, and I couldn't find anything. A review like this would have saved me $2000, and I would have a working fireplace in my house right now, not a gapping hole in my living room.

Review: Mr. [redacted] failed to provide contracted chimney work that sealed out rain and water from the environment; Due to his lack of professionalism, rather than bringing proper material to the job site or going to get needed material, he used part of a used aluminum Turkey pan (our turnkey pan from Thankgiving 2013) on the chimney work; provided mediocre communication; failed to continue work even after stating he would; borrowed personal property without asking; left residual concrete material on the floor and yard without picking it up; patched work on fireplace mantle that had different color mortar than the rest of the mantle; Set up scaffolding for chimney work in November 2013. By June 2014, he still had not returned to continue the chimney work even after our and the contractors efforts failed to convince him otherwise, so we gave him notice to remove his scaffolding and not return to complete the work; failed to return unused material expenses that he was paid , and; failed to provide a final invoice of work completed and material used.Desired Settlement: Return unused portion of Labor that was paid ahead of time, and return Materials that were not used that were paid for ahead of time or return the money for those materials not purchased. Provide a final invoice of work completed and material used. Provide a written apology to ourselves and our Contractor for unprofessional behaviour.
