Initial Business Response /* (1000, 15, 2016/05/16) */
Feb 19, 2016 Mr. [redacted] brought his Go Cart in to us and asked if we would install his motor on the frame. He brought us a very very old, motor without ever hearing if it ran or not. He asked me to tune up the motor (spark plugs & check the...

carburator) which we did. We found the the carburator needed a carburator kit so we purchased one and installed it. Mr. [redacted] had brought a clutch but it was old and rusty and would not work properly. So we purchased a clutch and chain and necessary parts to install this to which he agreed to pay for all parts (which is normal for all customers) We hooked up the gas linkage and installed a recoil spring on the carburator to control the speed. At that point we started the engine and it seemed to run fine but a little rough so we did not attempt to overhaul the engine but removed the valve cover to check the rocker arm and push rods. The push rods were fine but the rocker arms were out of torque. So we adjusted them to the proper torque, put the valve cover back on , and that was it. The engine sounded and ran fine for it's age. It wasn't a new one but a very old engine but it sounded and ran okay.
We started the engine with no problem, adjusted the carburator & the motor ran fine. We found that the existing tires on it were too big and would not run in conjunction with the motor. We indicated this to Mr [redacted] and told him that it would not run at the proper speed with those big tires. The tires had to be smaller and it should not be driven until he had the proper tires. We gave him the name of a used lawn mower place in Republic where he could purchase the proper tires.
After about three weeks Mr [redacted] called and said he was having problems with it. There was no problem with the motor it was just that it wouldnt run right because of the tires. He only called twice and each time we told him to bring it back for us to look at but he never did. The he called another time & seemed to be drunk & we couldn't understand him and again I told him to bring it back. But he never did bring it back for us to look at. When Mr [redacted] picked it up we had the engine & ran it for about 10 minutes with no problem and he was happy with it and took it with him. He paid the $350.00 (he said it was $440.00 in his complaint but it was $350.00).
There seems to be no problem with the engine. It was HIS engine and even if there was something wrong with it it would be his engine. Everything was so old we did not guarantee anything.
We are sorry about this but he caused the problem by not installing the proper tires. We strongly indicated that he shouldn't drive it until he installed proper tires.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 17, 2016/05/17) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
First off it hasn't run good enough to drive that's the only reason I haven't changed the tires yet it's just like it was when I brought it home I have pictures of the motor showing that he did not remove any thing to adjust the values or rocker arms pictures don't lie you can plainly tell he didn't remove anything but the gas tank. And my Brother Was with me when I paid him he's just not being honest I paid in cash $450 he give me back $10 for gas that brought it down to $440 I paid him my family also new how much I paid him cause they said that was to high. He seems to have forgot my brother was standing right there when I paid him. And like I said I've got pictures to show he didn't remove the plate were he said he went in and adjusted the values and rocker arms. I don't know why he won't tell the truth. I haven't done anything to the go cart except try and find tires. But it's got to run first. Thank you
