To Whom this may concern,We are in receipt of the complaint made by [redacted]. [redacted] sustained damage to his propert on January 8th 2014 in which he signed a contract with Hillis Adjustment Agency to handle this loss.  Over the course of 8 months Hillis Adjustment Agency negotiated...

this loss with [redacted] and came to a great settlement in August 2014.  On August 6th 2014, Lynette K[redacted] in our office had a conversation with [redacted] and he was extremely happy with our services and the settlement we received.  We advised him of the depreciation that [redacted] was holding and how we could assist him in recovering the depreciation.  We advised him to send in all invoices and proof of payment to review per [redacted]'s policy provisions.  To date, Hillis has not received said documentation, therefore we have not been able to negotiate the holdback with [redacted].
In reference to the "referral" that [redacted] mentions, we sent him and his wife a Dining Out Card which gives clients 25% off select restaurants for an entire year thanking him for referring our company.  This is our company procedure and we greatly appreciate anyone who refers our company.  Lynette K[redacted] asked [redacted] what percentage he was promised and he did not disclose that information to Lynette, therefore, Hillis is not able to compensate him.  I have asked [redacted] to advise me what this percentage was he was promised and we can discuss compensation but I have yet to receive that information.
As stated, [redacted] was extremely happy with our services and his settlement and he has not been cooperative with our office to move things forward.  There will be no refund made to [redacted] but we are more then happy to assist in recovering the depreciation as promised and per our contract.
Sincerely
Laura H[redacted]

Hillis Claim No.: [redacted]
As [redacted] stated in her complaint, Hillis Adjustment
Agency, Inc. (“Hillis”) did go to her property and help the complainant with
her insurance claim. ...

Hillis was able to
help the complainant get a very good settlement.  The complainant signed an independent
contract with her own contractor for work that needed to be performed at the
home.  The complainant was not happy or
satisfied with the work of the contractor.
Only a few appointments were set for [redacted]. Hillis to visit the
complainant’s home and said appointments were broken due to Mr. Hillis’s health-related
problems and Hurricane Sandy, which caused an influx of thousands of emergency claims
into Hillis during a very short period of time.
As requested by the complainant, Hillis will send Public Adjuster [redacted] and Executive Assistant [redacted] to the property to review the
complainant’s outstanding issues.  Hillis
cannot guarantee that it will be able to obtain additional money from complainant’s
insurance company or be able to help with the contractor’s faulty work, but Hillis
will make its best attempt to resolve any and all issues considered to be
unresolved by the complainant.  Hillis
contacted complainant today to schedule an appointment and is awaiting
complainants return call.

Review: I signed a contract with Hillis Adjusters, and referred to them 3 other individuals. I was told by Hillis that I would receive a % of the settlement amount these individuals will receive from their insurance carrier. I know all 3 individuals have receive their funds, and I have follow up numerous times with Hillis regarding my referral fee. I have been told couple of times that they will get back to me, and the past 2 tries, no one has even replied to my emails. This is just one of the frustrations that I have had with them. The public adjuster that I initially signed a contract with left without notice, I did majority of the work (compiling inventory list, uploading picture, following up with my insurance). In conclusion I was not delivered what was promised to me in my contract. In fact all 3 other individuals that I referred to this company are not satisfied with the services they received from [redacted] Adjusters (I can gladly ask all other 3 individuals to file a Revdex.com report for their unpleasant experience.Desired Settlement: 1. Since I did majority of the work (I have proof of that), uploaded majority of the documents and pictures (I have proof of that), and did majority of the phone calls with [redacted], I like to receive a refund from Hillis.2. Also, I need to receive the referral fee 3. I like to avoid my contract with Hillis going forward.

To Whom this may concern,We are in receipt of the complaint made by [redacted]. [redacted] sustained damage to his propert on January 8th 2014 in which he signed a contract with Hillis Adjustment Agency to handle this loss. Over the course of 8 months Hillis Adjustment Agency negotiated this loss with [redacted] and came to a great settlement in August 2014. Review: Original agent from Hillis came to my house and promised to negotiate with the insurance company for additional money for damages. I told him that the insurance adjuster was already here and they are processing a check. He informed me that Hillis would only take payment from additional monies collected from their negotiations, not from money already received. This agent left the company and the new agent tried to bait and switch saying that Hillis gets paid no matter what and that the contract is binding. We never received a copy of the contract because the original agent was in a rush to his next appointment. Now a year later Hillis said they cannot do anything else and recommended a lawyer they work with. Now they want the money for something they did not negotiate.Desired Settlement: I think that this service is a scam. They can sign people and promise them the world, do nothing, and take a payment for virtually nothing. I would like this bill dismissed, or at least a new bill reflecting a reasonable payment of what they negotiated (if they can prove such) after my claim was already settled. I would also like an apology and people to know how they operate.

To Whom This May Concern,

I apologize we are just responding to this complaint as we were closed for a couple of days due to the holiday. Please see attached documentation responding to the complaint and please let us know if there is anything else that is needed.

Review: Not only did this company assure me they were not taking additional fees on a supplemental claim because they stated "they messed up" but Hillis did not complete what they were contracted to do and took almost an additional $700.00 from our settlement. Initially in the beginning of 2013, [redacted] of Hillis and [redacted], our Insurance Companys representative, came out on one occasion to assess the damage of our home, they put in a settlement to our insurance company for which they (Hillis) took 25% - which was part of the contractual agreement. When the contractor came out to start the work it was determined there was much more damage on the interior of the walls ie mold and rotted wood which was not included in the initial estimate. I contacted Hillis personally and spoke to "[redacted]" and specifically told him the issue and my concern with additional damage not covered in the estimate. I also informed him that on several occasions it was asked if they would open up the wall and they (Hillis) did not feel it was necessary. Now that the wall was open, I wanted to know if someone else was going to come out. [redacted] stated that all I (as the homeowner) had to do was get a second estimate and photographs and send to Hillis. I specifically asked if they were going to take any additional money because I would just contact my Homeowners directly and deal with them, which is [redacted]. [redacted] said to me "no it was us that messed up by not opening the wall, no additional money will be taken from your settlement on the supplemental." He also told me that I did not have to contact my Insurance Company. He said for me to get everything together and call him if I had any issues. I was asked to send my estimates and photographs to another employee at Hillis by the name of [redacted], which I did do. Over the next several weeks, I called Hillis on SEVERAL occasions as asked if they were sure they did not want to see what was going on while the walls were open in my daughters room along with my husbands office. I also mentioned to [redacted] (employee of Hillis) that we are not suppose to be charged another 25% and she stated she "didn't know about that" When she said that, I asked to speak to "[redacted]" but he was never available to come to the phone. Multiple times I was told they were calling [redacted] who allegedly was handling this matter. I was provided [redacted]s phone number, which I called a couple different occasions with no return call. In my frustration I was keeping in contact with [redacted] from Hillis who said she was trying to reach [redacted] and was trying to reach my Insurance representative [redacted]. After I sent all the paperwork and all the photographs to [redacted] I began contacting Hillis to find out if they had submitted my additional information to the insurance company. Multiple times I again was told they would get back to me after they speak to [redacted]. Finally, after calling them almost every day for an answer, I received a call back from [redacted] who said she set up an appointment with [redacted] ([redacted] Representative) and [redacted] (Hillis Employee) to come to my home at 8:30 in the morning on a Wednesday. I specifically asked [redacted] why they were coming out if all the damage they needed to see was repaired. She stated they just needed to see that the work was done. At 8:30 I was pulling out of my driveway to go to an appointment and [redacted] was in fact pulling in to meet with my husband and our contractor. I spoke to my husband later in the day and he informed me that [redacted] was done and gone by time [redacted] ever showed up on our property, he talked socially for a couple of minutes and was on his way. I was disgusted with Hillis in many ways and in fact I even had said to [redacted] that the reason that Hillis was not responding to any of my calls and I was not getting any answers was because they already got their money and didn't care one bit about this matter. The entire time I was put off, did not receive calls back as promised and they never came back once they got "their money". [redacted] assured me this was not the case. Finally I can see that my check from the Insurance Company was sent to Hillis and it clearned on or about 10 May 2013. I called HIllis and spoke to [redacted] to ask where my check was since I could see it had "cleared the Insurance company". I was told they just had to assess their fees and take their money. I stated to [redacted] that no fees were to be taken out of my check due to my conversation with [redacted]. [redacted] stated she doesn't know of any arrangement and I said that all she had to do was ask [redacted] and I had spoken to others at Hillis and it was known because they messed up by not doing a full assessment the first time and on top of that they have done nothing since. I also voiced my frustration to [redacted] that it was ridiculous if they attempt to take the money, [redacted] never returned my calls and it was a constant fight with them to include [redacted] didn't even show up for the final inspection. She stated well he was probably held up at a previous appointment, I said the appointment was for 8:30 in the morning. [redacted] stated she would have [redacted] Hillis call me back in the next day or so. After a discussion with [redacted] Hillis she stated that "[redacted] did not have the authority to make that arrangement". I said he is a representative of your company, I specifically asked and said if you were going to take more money I would just go to the Insurance company directly and I was told not to do that. I told her I trusted her company and her representative word and had enough respect for them to call and let them know what happened. She insisted that regardless [redacted] again did not have the authority and that they would still take 25% even though I told her the only communication or contact with her company I had was with [redacted], [redacted], [redacted] and [redacted] (and one other person named [redacted] briefly on a Friday. These were all quick conversations of mainly Hillis stating to me "let me try to reach [redacted] and I will get back to you" Then she said to me "well do you have it in writing" and I said I trusted you people and then she stated well its not mentioned in your file - all of these things were deceitful moves on Hillis part. I was very upset and told her to send me my check. My check was originally written for the amount of 2,779.00 when I received the check today it was for the amount of 2099.44. This company did not follow through with any type of reinspections after I told them the problem, they never showed up for the appointment scheduled by their company and even after I was told they were not taking the money, they took it anyhow.Desired Settlement: I want the difference of 25% they took out of our settlement check. Nothing more, nothing less per the agreement between their employee "[redacted]" and I. This is absolutely appalling what they did. They strung me along, told me NOT to call my insurance company and then stole our money. Their employee makes a promise to me as the consumer and then the owner of the business plays the roll of "he had no authority".

Review: After we had a house fire Hillis came to us and promised to help with our claim with Ins. Co. Although they did help us they made mistakes and promised to help resolve them. The owner promised to come to the house and see what a horrible job the contractor did he never came. Made appointments all were broken. Only once did we break an appointment due to my husband line of work. My homeowners Ins. included outside structure that Hillis let go. Part of the settlement that was outside went to the inside of the house. We also have a right to code upgrade money that HIllis was going to help with and never did. We needed electrical upgrades and my ins co. covers but for whatever reason Hillis didn't try to collect for us. Phone calls are no longer returned and no more appointments to see the house. Basically promises were made and they didn't finish their end of the deal. Our Ins. Co. owes us more money for the damage that was done from the fire that was covered but not paid by our homeowners policy. Hillis told us that they would get everything we such get from the policy.Desired Settlement: I want [redacted] Hillis or someone in his agency to come to my house as promised and to work on getting us our outside structure and code upgrade money. This is what we are entitled to according to my homeowners ins. policy
