Review: charged for services not done

on 09/18/2013 I called Hillsdale veterinary hospital and made a 9:30 am appointment for my dog [redacted]. she was in pain and her stomach was hard and she wouldn't eat or drink. they had me leave her with them and said they wouldcall me around 11:30 or 12:00 and asked for a number I could be reached at so I gave them my cell number and waited for their call. I called them at 1:45 and they said they had given her fluids thru an i.v. and took xrays and blood tests and to come and get her. when I get there they had not given her fluids and the doctor seemed like he didn't know how to read the xrays and kept dropping them on the floor and his assistant started to give her fluids and then stopped. they called my home phone and not my cell phone that's why she was there 2 hours more than she should have.when I get her she is panting worst than when I brought her in there and they charged me $409.40 to tell me they didn't know what was wrong with her and to bring her back tomorrow for more xrays. Desired Settlement: no charge, I don't believe they did any of the things they said they did.

Initial Business Response

Ms [redacted] brought her dog to us in the morning of Sep. 18, 2013 for not eating, not drinking, shaking, panting and distended abdomen. After physical examination, we recommended blood tests and X-ray examination to make a diagnosis and explained that treatment plan would be decided later based on the test result. Ms [redacted] authorized those plans and left her dog for the tests. On the blood test, everything was normal and there was no remarkable findings on X-ray. We tried to contact her to give the results and to discuss about treatment options. However, no one answered the phone and there was only voice message saying the mail box was full. None of us knew about her cellphone and we had only one phone number in our record.

She came back in the afternoon and complained about our not calling her. I am not sure which was true.

I explained that I could not make a definite diagnosis since there was no remarkable findings upon the tests and I could provide symptomatic treatment such as anti-acid injection, antibiotic injection and subcutaneous fluids. Since I did not give a treatment plan in the morning, I could not provide any treatments until she came back in the afternoon. The symptomatic treatment were done under her permission and she made a payment of $409.4 with her personal check. The discharge instruction was to monitor over night for any signs of vomiting, lethargy, severe pain or discomfort, to take the pet to an emergency clinic if any of those signs are seen or to bring the dog back the next day for possible more X-rays and blood tests.

Then, her check was returned unpaid by my bank on Sep 23, 2013. I called her to ask about the returned check, but there was no answer on the line and the mail box was full again.

I sent her a certified letter on Oct. 18, 2013 to notify that the balance would be transferred to a collecting agency if she does not contact us by Nov. 5, 2013.

I am willing to submit medical records, X-ray films and invoice if they can be helpful for your work.
