Hlavinka Equipment Company Reviews (2)

Mr [redacted] did not purchase the subject tractor from [redacted] Equipment Company in as we did not buy out the existing Case IH dealership until Also to clarify, I personally have not spoken with Mr [redacted] in at least days, so to say that nothing has been done to resolve his problems is conjecture. The tractor was delivered to our store by Mr [redacted] and was brought in for starting issues among five other service issues NOT related to hard starting Mr [redacted] is correct in saying that the starting repair portion of the work was $ During troubleshooting it was determined that a relay was intermittently malfunctioning and the starter itself was shooting sparks out of it when it engaged to crank the engine We took the starter to have it rebuilt locally for $as a brand new starter would have been over $1, While Mr [redacted] contends that the starter was not the problem, it was a part of the overall starting concern The other service work, except for the hydraulic oil change and adjusting the three point lift control lever, was completed on the tractor Mr [redacted] picked up his tractor only to call back some weeks later stating that we did not fix the starting issues I did speak to him on the phone and told him that we would warranty our work on the starter and that I would work with him to resolve the starting issues within reason I offered for us to come out to pick up the tractor free of charge to bring it back to our shop (which we did around the third week of August) Further troubleshooting indicated that the neutral safety start switch on the transmission lever was out of adjustment and also making intermittent contact, which would cause the tractor not to start one out of every 6-times cranking Admittedly, this was not discovered during the first shop visit so we did not charge Mr [redacted] for this work The service manager and I had Mr [redacted] come to the dealership to explain to him what was done on the neutral safety shift lever We demonstrated to him that even the slightest misalignment would make the switch not have good contact and not start Over years there has been some 'slop' develop in the control levers on the tractor, and finding the right spot in shift levers, three point levers, etcis not uncommon to his or any such tractor Several of our other technicians and our service manager all were able to get the tractor to start on the first try each time by ensuring the shift lever was in the proper position prior to turning the key Mr***, while skeptical of our diagnosis, accepted the repair and was also told that if the problem persisted, the switch would need to be replaced We then changed the hydraulic oil for which he was charged, and delivered his tractor back to his home free of charge. The last time I personally spoke with Mr [redacted] was at the end of August when he was at our dealership looking over the repair He may have since spoken with the service manager, but I was not aware of any pending need for further service on the starting issue We replaced the starter, relay, and adjusted (not replaced) the neutral safety start switch on the transmission shift lever My offer to warranty specifically those repairs still stands If there are indeed further components that need replacement, those parts and labor will be the customer's responsibility If Mr [redacted] would rather, I will refund him half of the amount of the segment on the first work order (RO 33616) for "Hard to Start" for a total of $--- This refund offer will be in lieu of completing any further repairs to the tractor

Mr. [redacted] did not purchase the subject tractor from [redacted] Equipment Company in 1988 as we did not buy out the existing Case IH dealership until 1995.  Also to clarify, I personally have not spoken with Mr. [redacted] in at least 90 days, so to say that nothing has been done to resolve his problems...

is conjecture. The tractor was delivered to our store by Mr. [redacted] and was brought in for starting issues among five other service issues NOT related to hard starting.  Mr. [redacted] is correct in saying that the starting repair portion of the work was $803.63.  During troubleshooting it was determined that a relay was intermittently malfunctioning and the starter itself was shooting sparks out of it when it engaged to crank the engine.  We took the starter to have it rebuilt locally for $335.72 as a brand new starter would have been over $1,000.  While Mr. [redacted] contends that the starter was not the problem, it was a part of the overall starting concern.  The other service work, except for the hydraulic oil change and adjusting the three point lift control lever, was completed on the tractor.  Mr. [redacted] picked up his tractor only to call back some weeks later stating that we did not fix the starting issues.  I did speak to him on the phone and told him that we would warranty our work on the starter and that I would work with him to resolve the starting issues within reason.  I offered for us to come out to pick up the tractor free of charge to bring it back to our shop (which we did around the third week of August).  Further troubleshooting indicated that the neutral safety start switch on the transmission lever was out of adjustment and also making intermittent contact, which would cause the tractor not to start one out of every 6-8 times cranking.  Admittedly, this was not discovered during the first shop visit so we did not charge Mr. [redacted] for this work.  The service manager and I had Mr. [redacted] come to the dealership to explain to him what was done on the neutral safety shift lever.  We demonstrated to him that even the slightest misalignment would make the switch not have good contact and not start.  Over 27 years there has been some 'slop' develop in the control levers on the tractor, and finding the right spot in shift levers, three point levers, etc. is not uncommon to his or any such tractor.  Several of our other technicians and our service manager all were able to get the tractor to start on the first try each time by ensuring the shift lever was in the proper position prior to turning the key.  Mr. [redacted], while skeptical of our diagnosis, accepted the repair and was also told that if the problem persisted, the switch would need to be replaced.  We then changed the hydraulic oil for which he was charged, and delivered his tractor back to his home free of charge. The last time I personally spoke with Mr. [redacted] was at the end of August when he was at our dealership looking over the repair.  He may have since spoken with the service manager, but I was not aware of any pending need for further service on the starting issue.  We replaced the starter, relay, and adjusted (not replaced) the neutral safety start switch on the transmission shift lever.  My offer to warranty specifically those repairs still stands.  If there are indeed further components that need replacement, those parts and labor will be the customer's responsibility.  If Mr. [redacted] would rather, I will refund him half of the amount of the segment on the first work order (RO 33616) for "Hard to Start" for a total of $401.82 --- This refund offer will be in lieu of completing any further repairs to the tractor.
