Hoag Hospital Newport Beach

Since early 2023, I have not have any complaints with Hoag/Newport, when I had three different appointments four MRIs under sedation.

On Friday, May 31, 2024, I was scheduled for podiatric surgery. Everyone who helped me during my overnight stay was great, accept for the dietician and nutritionist.

During pre-op, one things in my chart was to go over my allergies, especially my food allergies.

Friday evening, May 31, 2024, I did not have a problem with what I ordered, but I forgot to add cheese (which I am not allergic too). I was told it would be up to twenty minutes, before I was brought the cheese. Also, pickles was on the plate, which I can eat.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, I was looking over the menu and saw something on the menu I knew I could eat.

I contacted the kitchen to put in my order and was told I could not have it based on the food allergies in my chart. So instead of me being allowed to have what I wanted, a tray was prepared for me. What was on the tray was items I was allergic too things I could not eat, etc. So I rejected it.

When lunch came around I tried ordering a turkey sandwich with pickles, lettuce and tomatoes and was told I could not have it, because I am allergic to certain types of citrus, but not all citrus, and pickles I am not allergic too. So I was denied my turkey sandwich.

The night before I was allowed to have pickles and on Saturday I was not.

They prepared a tray for me for lunch and I rejected, because I did not want chicken, which was a very small piece and too well done for my liking and white rice, which I will never eat, even though I am not allergic and a banana. I rejected the tray, but did take and eat the banana.

What I wanted to eat on Saturday, June 1, 2024, while I was at Hoag-Newport, I was not allowed to have, but what they prepared for me for breakfast, had several items I could not eat, due items on the tray, I was allergic too, or it was going to aggravate one or more of my medical issues.

I already explained to you about lunch on Saturday, June 1, 2024, two paragraphs above.

I contacted the kitchen several times regarding these issues and they were not going to budge in what I know I can eat and what they will allow me to have, based on what I listed as food allergies.

So in terms of the three meals I had, the Friday chicken sandwich was almost cold by the time it was delivered to my room and it would have totally cold by the time I received the cheese, so I threw it out.

Saturday, June 1, 2024, was the day I had the issues with the kitchen, which culminated in me contacting them several, with no resolution to my situation.

I am a 62 year old female, who knows what I can and cannot have in terms of what I can, cannot, or will not eat, depending on my medical issues, allergies, etc. I do not need a dietitian or the nutritionist telling me what they will allow me to eat, as to what I know I can eat.

So the only thing I ate during the 24 hours I was a banana and water and nothing else. I had the banana about a half hour before being discharged.
