Hoag Laboratory
Go elsewhere for your lab work. Went with my wife on Friday, Sept 27, 2024. Walked in without an appointment because reasonable time appointments are not available (if you need to fast before the blood test, a 1:30-2 PM appointment does not work.) After checking in and giving them all of our insurance cards, ID, etc they said it would be an hours wait before the the Phlebotomist would see us. One hour wait for a 2 minute procedure...not good. (there are many labs in Orange County where the wait is the most 10-15 minutes...don't go to Hoag for blood work.) We waited, and finally they called us. They could not get enough blood from my wife as she has small veins. (this was after they took almost four vials of blood from her.) In any case they tried the other arm and took another vial or two, Now the results...The doctors lab order calls for six results but Hoag only posted five on their portal. One was missing which was the Lipid panel (all of these are for a yearly wellness exam.) Okay one of the panel results is missing, not a big deal, but whom can you call at Hoag to find out where the result is? No one, they don't have any live people working at Hoag who can provide answers to your questions/issues. Is that the type of medical care that we all expect?...the answer is simple...NO. Hoag you need to figure out how to do better... you are a local community hospital that cannot provide the care and service that the population needs. (There are many alternatives in Orange County and more coming as our county is becoming the medical center for Southern California. How long will it take before a large hospital group takes you over and is able to provide the proper service we all expect and want.?)

ER nightmare
I visited HOAG ER December 29, 2022. The nurse at the front desk who checked me in couldn’t have been nicer. It was downhill from there. I went in for what I perceived as an emergency. I had contacted my general practitioner with all the symptoms, and she said go to the emergency room. I was treated like a five year old who had been caught stealing cookies in the cafeteria. They told me that what I was dealing with. It was not an emergency that I was wasting time and then an IV was a favor. They ignored me, scolded me and yelled at me. When I tried to talk, they would interrupt me. When I tried to show them all the things that were happening to me, and there are many, the PA kept saying I don’t see that. I don’t see that. I tried to show her an enlarged lymph node above my right clavicle, and she told me that she was an expert. She said she didn’t see what I saw. I asked her if she would go to the bathroom where we could both look in the mirror together and I could pointed out. She said no. All my hair is falling out suddenly. Again, she said I don’t see that. I tried to show her the muscle wasting that’s going on in my extremities and she said I don’t see that. My skin at the cellular level is losing electrolytes and fluid and is settling in my lower extremities meaning my hamstrings and gluteal muscles. She said, I don’t see that. they dismissed me as being crazy. I am anything but crazy. I spent six years studying the human body and have a BS in kinesiology and I have kept a running diary of my symptoms as a progressively get worse I have seen other doctors who also don’t have an idea what’s going on with me because the blood panels are off but I need a specialist and seeing a specialist is difficult these days. The back up for a rheumatologist is a month out. Physicians assistant could not have treated me any worse than she did. She was dismissive, rude, curt and condescending. I listed my general practitioner on the forms when I arrived. Unbeknownst to me, she is not my general practitioner anymore. We had had an argument, but I was unaware that she was not going to act as my primary care physician anymore. However, that didn’t stop her from giving advice to the PA at HOAG. According to the PA, Genevieve Garcia, my ex general practitioner advised her to diagnose me with anxiety, although no medication was offered me for anxiety, such as a Xanax. I was diagnosed with dry skin and not given anything for dry skin, anxiety or alopecia, even though they gave me a flyer on it. the disconnect here is beyond me. I have spent time at HOAG and my children and my ex-husband have spent a lot of time at HOAG. I have never experienced this kind of treatment before and I’m beyond shocked and horrified. Dr. Lori Izabel what is my general practitioner, but apparently was not my practitioner when she advised Genevieve Isabel Garcia the acting PA in attending provider December 29, 2022. The reason for my visit was put down as weakness and panic attack. I didn’t say I was having a panic attack and I didn’t say I was having weakness. I said I was having explosive muscle wasting and trouble walking from fluid retention in my lower extremities. I said I was dealing with inflamed, lymphatic system and lymph nodes. I was having excessive bruising, water retention and strange things happening to my nails and hair loss I believe I have an immune disorder, but it is an overdrive at the moment and is happening at a very rapid rate The diagnosis was dry, skin loose skin, hair loss, and brittle nails, but nothing was given to me for any of those symptoms or complaints or diagnoses
ER nightmare

Lion King Circle of Life rendition to explain you have cancer
My mother went to ER because she did not feel well. The ER doctor came in and told her she had advanced cancer and then proceeded to do the rendition of the Circle of Life and how we all must die. She did not know she had cancer prior. I asked to see the CT scan and he said he would pull it up on a computer outside the room and he instead went home because his shift was over.

Wow! That’s unforgivable!

Go anywhere but Hoag! Cattle ranchers in emergency room. No concern for patients even kids. Fire them all!

Horrible emergency room. Staff are rude. You pay $7.00 to go in. Like with many hospitals or medical system in general, it’s about making money! You need a prescription, wait wait wait. They want as many tests to bill as they can.

Review: We have been trying for 4 years to get Hoag to stop sending us junk mail in the U. S. Mail. We have contacted various personnel at Hoag, including [redacted] and [redacted]. Neither my wife nor I have ever been patients or members of Hoag's healthcare system, so there are no legitimate reasons for Hoag to send us mail.

Hoag personnel have told us the mailings would stop, but they continue to arrive, even as recently as yesterday.Desired Settlement: Hoag will discontinue sending junk to us in the U. S. Mail.

Don't send any mail to me, don't send any to my wife, don't send any to "Current Resident," don't send anything at all to our address.

Stop the harassment!

Regards,

Review: I visited Hoag ER for flue and was billed nearly $1500 in addition to my insurance. My husband was also in the ER, a night after for the same issue and was only billed $500. When I received the bill, I contacted them and stated the discrepancy. They told me that the "code" was different and so charges are different (although I was there much shorter than my husband). In either case, I contacted the billing and told them that I was self employed and had hardship but would like to find a solution to settle the account. Since the initial billing, they asked for multiple documents that I either provided or told them I could not provide but that they were working actively to find best solution. In june 2013 and while I was working with their billing, I got a letter from their collection Dept. I was told that the collection would "be hold off" while we were working with the Billing. I received a negative report on my credit about a week ago. Thinking this was an oversight, I called and spoke with 3 people in the billing. They told me that there is NOTHING they can do at this point and that I would have to deal with collection. They could not tell me why there was a failure in communication and why they did not get back to me before sending me to collection. This is unfair credit reporting and bad business. I have been lied to and was misrepresented and they are reporting this because of their failure to follow up/respond to my efforts to settle this account.
