Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/08/18) */
On Sunday August, 14 2016 Hodge's received a call from the Kewanee Police department around 2:45pm. Dispatcher advised they had a accident on the 200 block of Tenny St. Our company dispatched a small recovery unit to the scene. Once on scene our...

driver consulted with the Kewanee Police Department on scene. Vehicle owner paced around until his father showed up. The police agency told the owner's to get back into his fathers truck and get off the street that our company would clean the wreckage up and tow the car away. Our driver cleaned up all of the debris and hooked the vehicle and prepared it for transit back to our storage facility. At the scene of the accident the driver nor the father stated that they wanted the vehicle towed to another location. Our companies policy states that if owner does not specify a location to tow it then it returns to our storage facility. Our hours of operation at our storage lot is posted on the fence in big letters and states Sunday is closed. Our company also has posted Per Illinois Complied Statutes 625 ILCS 5/4-203 about Retrieving Personal Items From Impounded Vehicles. Once the vehicle was back at the storage yard the car was dropped inside the lot and our employee was approached by the driver and father. The father asked our employee if the car was repairable and our employee stated that it looked pretty bad for how old the car was. Then the father proceed to ask if there where any salvage yards around? Our driver stated yes there are two and gave him the names of them. The father then asked if they could get their belongings out and our employee let them get their things. The father asked how much the bill was and our driver stated that the storage yard is closed on Sundays and the storage fee is $35.00per day. Our driver also stated that the secretary would be in on Monday mourning he could call then to get the final price. At no time did the father or driver of the vehicle ask to get the car out on Sunday August 14, 2016. Monday August 15, 2016 around 9:30am the father returned to our place of business and asked if he could view the vehicle and retrieve more things out of the car. One of our employee's escorted him out to the storage yard and opened the gate to let him retrieve his things and look at the car again. After the father retrieved his things he stated he would be back later in the afternoon with a trailer to get the car. Later Monday afternoon the father returned with a trailer and one of our employees helped them load the car on the trailer. Then the father came into and paid the bill with a credit card and signed the receipt. The father then thanked us for helping them and left. On Tuesday August 16, 2016 our company started receiving nasty phone called from Mr. [redacted] stating that he is demanding a refund for one day storage. On Wednesday August 17, 2016 our company received a call from Mr. [redacted]'s credit card company stating that Mr. [redacted] wanted to stop payment on his transaction with our company. Our company informed the credit card company what had happened and they stated that Mr. [redacted] would not be able to stop this transaction it was a legitimate transaction. After we explained our policy to him is when he started bad mouthing us on social media and apparently to you guys. Our rates and policy are given to all police department and approved before we can be placed on the tow rotation. I will also attach pictures of our posting on our storage yard. If you need anything else please fill free to contact me.
Thank you!

Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/08/22) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Not sure why the towing company feels it was relevant that my son was pacing around until I arrived on the scene, he was upset his car was damaged and has never been involved in an accident.
My son and I were never requested to get back in my vehicle by police infact I asked to get a closer look at the damage and was accompanied by a officer to the vehicle on the street. I inquired if anyone was hurt and told no, looked at the car and my son and I moved to the sidewalk by our own decision. On the sidewalk I asked the officer about my moving the car and coming back to pick it up with a car trailer and he responded that the towing company was on the way and meet them at their business. I was never given an option of where my vehicle was being told. The tow truck driver never once talked to and see if I wanted it towed anywhere. He hooked it up and pulled it away. I never had a conversation with the driver until I was at their business. At the business I was asking the driver my options and all he would say is comeback tomorrow. The driver had a truck load of kids with him and talked on the phone the whole time I was asking questions. He was rude and did not want answer questions. Their policies were never once explained to me. I did not see any kind of sign which doesn't mean it wasn't there. I would have thought by my questions the driver must have known I didn't understand why my car could not be released the day it was towed. I received no help loading my car on my car trailer. The owner did come out and gave me some advice on strapping down the vehicle. I wasn't finished strapping when he came out and was doing what he suggested but wasn't finished yet. Ny thank you was facetious as except for the owner coming out all the employees were staring at me through the window.
When I returned home with the vehicle I was able to look the bill over better and noticed the 2 day storage fee. My last question to the driver sunday was if I had to come back monday to retrieve the vehicle how many days storage would I be charged and he replied one day. At that point my only option was to return Monday. After I saw the 2 days storage charges I phoned the company and explained to the secretary that I was told I would be charged for one day. She replied that she was not told that and would talk to the driver and call me back Monday. I made 2 calls to the business one on Monday and one more on Tuesday to see if she had talked to the driver she stated she had not and said she would call me back. There were no Nasty calls I was firm and but polite and stated my case to the secretary. There was nothing nasty about my behavior or phone calls, no profanity or name calling just a firm questioning of my bill and options. I received a voicemail Tuesday from saying that the bill would stand as it was. Yes I did share my experience on Social media not sure why they are surprised by that. That is normal. I'd have shared my experience if it had been positive also. Their web site states their value the customers feedback on their experience soi I shared my experience. I did call and bank and we discussed options for me to dispute bill the bank said they reference the sign of their policies. It is hard to dispute anything when you use a debit, it is my right to question and seek remedies if I feel like I was overcharged. As far as filing a complaint with the Revdex.com why do they find issue with that it is why the Revdex.com is here. I feel like I was overcharged and not given good service. The driver could have explained their polices and my options and he choose not to. So one of my options was to file a complaint I choose to do that. This business is open on Sundays and was pumping gas, towing vehicles, and working on carts Sunday. yest their policy is to not release and let you pay your bill on Sundays. It seems their reason for this is to be able to charge 2 days storage on something that wasn't on their lot for even 24 hours.
I feel they created the circumstances that enabled them to charged 2 days storage, I feel they could have explained their polices to me but they did not. and Yes I was unhappy with the service and not sticking to the billing of one day storage as their driver stated to me on Sunday.
This could have been avoided if the company's driver had communicated their policies to me and been honest to the secretary about what I was told about billing on the storage. The bottom line is I was told on Sunday that I would be charged one day storage and was infact charged with 2 days.
