Hodgesville Heating & Air Reviews (%countItem)

I built a new home and contracted Hodgesville Heating to install my Trane HVAC system. The house is in a rural area so I have a separate heat pump with propane gas backup systems in the upstairs and downstairs. Under the estimate/contract it stated they would replace the natural gas valve kits that came with the units to propane gas valve kits and provide quality work and service. After I moved-in I noticed the house wasn't warming up on very cold days and we had to use the gas fireplace to warm the house. I called Hodgesville and they said they would try and fit us in...they never showed up after several calls.

Later after calling other HVAC companies they discovered there were multiple issues with the installation.

1) The propane gas was never turned on.
2) The natural gas valve kits were never replaced with propane kits.
3) The units weren't wired and programmed correctly to allow the back-up gas system to even work.
4) The vent pipes were sticking only 3" out of the roof allowing rain & snow to leak into the attic...these should have been 12" above the roof line with 180 degree elbows so the weather doesn't leak in.
5) A hole was cut in the drain pan to run piping that should have been routed around the pan...causing leakage. This should have been raised to allow the piping to drain properly.
6) The float switch and drain on the ac coil wasn't even installed on the downstairs unit.
7) The line sets weren't sealed as they entered the house.
8) The outside units weren't level and should've had snow feet installed.

In all, this has cost me an additional $1,670.78. I called the manufacture, Trane and they said they would reimburse me for $423 of the expense but not all of it since it wasn't all a manufacture problem but an installation problem. I refused the $423 from Trane since they wanted me to sign a release form. I asked them why would they sell to Hodgesville if they install their systems incorrectly? They're answer was because they're a certified HVAC technician...just what is a certified HVAC technician? Trane did try and have Hodgesville pay for the installation issues but Hodgesville's answer was "no" and they thought "they did a good job". I guess a “good job” by Hodgesville standards is whatever you can get away with.

Hodgesville Heating & Air Response • Feb 11, 2019

Good morning, We are well aware of the customer's complaint's. These complaint's have been after he got 2 other companies to perform work on the house to which the Trane company reimbursed him one of those. The Trane company contacted us and we are not willing to pay him for the amount he is asking due to the fact this is over 2 years ago and others working at his home. We did an extremely great job at his home. He is trying to get us to pay for some things that his roofers installed on his house which caused leaking. If you have any other questions please give me a call and I will more than glad to help you and even get *** to give you a call on this matter since he was the one working on the job himself. The homeowner only did this after Trane refused to reimburse him any more money and then he came after us!!!!

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The attached invoice shows the problems that were fixed by ***. Like I said in my original complaint, I called Hodgesville first about the HVAC not heating but they never showed up after repeated calls for over a month, so I had to find someone else. When *** came by he said it looked like the job was never completed...he took pictures of everything that was wrong so he could quote the job before he fixed it. The work he did I didn't have a problem with later. What I did have a problem with later was the attic unit leaking, but *** was backed up for several weeks so I checked it out myself and discovered that the roof vent pipes were only sticking out of the roof about 3" (see attached picture) so I went to *** and bought the materials (I did not include this in the reimbursement amount) and extended the roof vent to 12" above the roof with a 180 degree elbow like the installation book says. This didn't stop the leaking so someone told me about *** HVAC so I called them and they came the next day and found that the drain inside the unit was leaking and had been backing up into the drain pan...attached are the invoices from ***. I called Trane after I had *** come the first time to see if they could do anything about the invoice for $1,158.78 from ***. They said that since this was an installation issue and not a manufacture issue then they could only reimburse me for the work that *** did on the leaking unit in the garage...about $423. I refused this reimbursement since they also wanted me to sign a release form. Regards

This company came out and replaced my mother's furnace. Last winter, the furnace wouldn't shut off when it reached the desired temperature. It ran constantly day and night and ran the electric bill up. She contacted them, they came out looked at it again and told her someone would be out to fix it in the spring.....(really??) Nonetheless, they have never showed back up to fix the unit - she ended up running her fireplace for the winter and now also has a $1300 gas bill. She is on a fixed income. If they sell a product, they need to stand behind it. I want them out there to fix this unit like it should be.

MRS. CALLED IN FOR US TO COME AND LOOK AT HER HOUSE FOR AN ESTIMATE ON 10/14/16. SHE HAD AN EXISTING HEAT PUMP WITH A FURNACE. SHE WENT BACK WITH A TOTAL ELECTRIC HEAT PUMP. MRS. CAME IN AND SIGNED CONTRACT ON 11/22/16. THE TOTAL OF THE JOB WAS $5,100.00. SHE PAID $2,550.00 CHECK #*** ON 11/22/16. THE JOB WAS COMPLETED ON 11/30/16. WE PRICED HER THE HIGHEST EFFICIENCY TO DOWN TO THE LOWEST SEER RATING THAT YOU CAN GET AND SHE DECIDED TO GO WITH THE 14 SEER (WHICH WAS THE LOWEST EFFICIENCY). SHE FINISHED PAYING WITH A CHECK AT THE COMPLETION OF THE JOB ($2,550.00). THE WARRANTY FOR THIS SYSTEM IS 10 YEARS ON THE COMPRESSOR AND ALL TRANE PARTS AND 1 YEAR ON ALL LABOR.THE FOLLOWING IS THE RECORDS OF CALLS MADE AND WHAT WE DID:1/5/17: COMPLAINT: NOT HEATING WELL: SERVICE TECH FOUND THE SENSING BULB FOR HEAT PUMP EXPANSION VALVE RESTING AGAINST HEAT PUMP SPIN FINS. HE MOVED BULB AWAY FROM FINS. AT THIS TIME THE SERVICE TECH FOUND 2 FOUNDATION VENTS NOT SHUTTING INTO CRAWLSPACE WHICH WAS LETTING THE COLD AIR UNDER HOUSE. ALSO, THIS IS AN OLDER HOME AND IS NOT INSULATED WELL AND THERE IS NO INSULATION IN THE CRAWL SPACE TO HELP TO CONDITION THE FLOORS. (I AM PRETTY SURE THEY TOLD HER ON AT LEASE ONE OCCASION THAT SHE REALLY NEEDED TO INSULATE UP UNDERNEATH HER CRAWL SPACE FLOOR).1/10/17: COMPLAINT: NOT TURNING OFF: SERVICE TECH RELOCATED THE THERMOSTAT TO THE ORIGINAL LOCATION.4/11/17: COMPLAINT: NOT WORKING PROPERLY-RUNS ALL THE THE TIME.SERVICE TECH FOUND EXPANSION VALVE FOR HEAT PUMP BAD. ORDERED PART AND WENT BACK TO REPLACE THE PART AND EVERYTHING WAS WORKING GOOD. STILL THEY NOTICED THAT NO INSUALTION HAD BEEN DONE IN THE CRAWL SPACE.THESE ARE THE TICKETS THAT I HAVE AND WE WENT. SHE LIVES AROUND AN HOUR AN HALF AWAY AND SHE WOULD ONLY LET US COME OUT AND WORK ON IT LATE IN THE EVENINGS. I KNOW SHE WORKED BUT OTHER ARRANGEMENTS TO GET SOMEONE TO LET US IN EARLIER WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE. WE LIKE TO GO OUT TO OUR FURTHER SERVICE JOBS FIRST TO ENSURE THAT WE ARE ABLE TO GET TO THEM. EACH SERVICE TICKET COULD TAKE DIFFERENT AMOUNTS OF TIME TO FIX SO HARD TO ESTIMATE WHAT TIME TO GET THERE UNLESS IT WAS THE FIRST ONE.WE DON’T MIND GOING OUT TO FIX IF THE EQUIPMENT IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. THE PARTS WOULD BE WARRANTY BUT SHE IS OUT OF THE YEAR LABOR CHARGE. THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO IF IT IS DUE TO AN OLDER HOME AND NOT WELL INSULATED.IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO GIVE ME A CALL OR SENT ME AN EMAIL.HODGESVILLE HEATING & AIR, INC.
