For incident on 6/16/14 at Hodi's Half Note:
Response: If customer would have looked at our website before coming down to the free comedy/funk jam this incident could have been avoided all together. It clearly states on the Hodis website at www.hodishalfnote.com that ALL patrons under...

the age of 21 (even if your birthday is only a month away which means absolutely nothing to a bar that has to protect its liquor license) will be charged a fee of $5 even on our free shows. I need security to watch them and the $5 helps to pay for that since they won't be buying drinks. It has been a club policy for years. If he would have looked at our website before riding his bike 3 miles he would have known that.We put large X's on all customers under the age of 21 because at a music venue underage drinking can be a big problem so we need to be able to easily see who is 21 and who is not. Another reason we put them on that big and dark is that some kids try and wash them off so they can try and deceive staff members and consume alcohol. If the customer didn't want to pay the $5 to get in or have the X's on his hands than he didn't have to come in. Nobody forced him to come inside. My security staff was just doing what they have been taught to do. As far as not being let back in after being outside (out of sight for 5-15 minutes and not in the doorway as described) that is a venue policy as well. Anyone under the age of 21 is not allowed to leave the premises for any amount of time. There is no re-entry for persons under the age of 21 and they are told that as they are coming in and signs are also posted around the door. The reason we don't allow people under 21 to leave and come back is that we don't know where they go or what they do. If they go to their car and consume alcohol we cannot have drunk minors returning to the venue. We could lose our liquor license and be shut down. If you walk out that door you can't come back in period. I actually witnessed this incident (I'm the owner here) and I believe that this particular patron is stretching the truth about what actually occurred. [redacted] is a soft spoken and kind security guard and didn't ever yell or be disrespectful to the patron. The reason he told him that he couldn't speak with a manager is there were none on duty that night so he was just trying to tell him the truth. He wasn't doing anything that I would consider wrong or out of line. It was actually this patrons female friend who was making obscene gestures and shouting vulgarities at [redacted]. If anything they were being rude and disrespectful to my staff and blew this whole situation out of proportion. So in conclusion we did not "steal" $5 from this patron or embarrass him in front of his friends. He did that all by himself by not paying attention to our policies and then acting out because of them. The X's were made with a sharpie and i'm sure they came off that night. It's really not hard to wash them off and this is the first complaint I have had in 6 years about the X's not being able to come off. Soap and a good scrub always worked for me. Therefore I will not be refunding the $5 and to think this is something that happens at Hodi's often and is encouraged and acceptable by management is ridiculous. This complaint is a waste of the Revdex.com's time and should be thrown out. Thanks

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because:
[redacted] did not inform me of your 'no-re entry' policy upon purchasing entry into the venue for the concert. It is for this reason that I reject your response. Signs are not visible upon entry. Crudely drawn signs posted on the inward facing doorframe measuring no more than several inches across do not serve as effective notice of your policy in a dimly lit room. If you (the owner) were present, it was your responsibility to intervene in this situation.
As for the $5.00, it's merely the principal. What won't be is the thousands of dollars of lost revenue from all of my friends who have agreed that Hodi's acted disrespectfully and incorrectly and therefore will not return. Your reputation is at risk.
No further communication is required. I will never speak of Hodi's again. I'm quite over this. Adios.
