Hoff Diamonds and Gems Reviews (%countItem)

The owner of Hoff is now running another jewelry store. Hoff went out of business and refused to honor any warranties that people paid money for but is now able to reopen another jewelry store. How are they able to open another store when they went out business and left their customers holding LIFETIME warranties that cost us hundreds of dollars? It seems like a scam to me. The new store is called Stevon's Diamonds in the Northtown Mall and their about us page clearly states that it is run by the same person that ran Hoff.

"We are the continuation of three generations of our family in the jewelry business. In 1938 Frank Hoff began this journey by opening Hoff Jewelers near his home in St Paul, MN. The Great Depression was in full effect and Frank was only able to afford a few pieces of jewelry so he focused mainly on watch repair. Years later Stevan F Hoff took over the company as it shifted focus from watches to finished jewelry, diamonds, and gemstones, and the company subsequently became known as the Twin Cities leading diamond importer. Stevan traveled the globe for over three decades finding the best deals on diamonds and gems, passing the savings on to his customers. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2018 S sold his last store and retired. But the success of his radiation treatment reignited his passion for the jewelry business so he came out of retirement to start Stevon's Diamonds in Northtown."

Will they sell warranties to people at this company, then go out of business and start anther company? How many times can they do this?

On JAN 2018 I purchased my wedding ring set from Hoff Diamonds at Maplewood. They closed and I got my warranty on 08 APR 2018 at their Burnsville location. They still ended up giving me a warranty honored by the Maplewood location. When I went for my 6 month inspection at the Burnsville location I found out they had closed! Now my warranty is no longer valid and I would like my problem to get resolved.

I have purchased many very expensive items from then 3 rings which range in price from 1000-14000 a watch diamond earring etc all with lifetime warranties and now I have no where to take them to get cleaned checked or fixed. I paid a lot for all of these warranties and now I think we should get our money back and then some. We drive two hours when they were in maplewood and to find out there not there anymore and that there new store closed also is disgusting. We got no letter in the mail or warning. Someone needs to take these people to court and satisfy all the customers especially the return customers like myself

My now husband purchased my ring at the end of August 2017. He had purchased the lifetime warranty for almost $200 to ensure my ring was protected for life. Almost two months later we received a notice in the mail that the Maplewood location was closing. I visited the location right after that and was told the Burnsville location would continue to honor the warranty. I then drove an hour and a half for my next 6 month inspection to find out the Burnsville location had closed and we were provided NO notice of this. Here we were with no information and wondering what would happen with the warranty on my ring that had been purchased less than a year ago! Hoff Diamonds poorly handled the closing of their business by giving customers NO notice and information on how their lifetime warranties would be handled moving forward. How could a company essentially steal money from people during what is supposed to be the happiest times of their lives?! I am extremely disappointed in this business and their lack of communication with their customers and for stealing our money.

My wife and I purchased our engagement and wedding rings back 13 years ago st the Rosedale Mall location. We have traveled to many different locations to keep up with the lifetime warranty. However, now the business is closed...again! Supposedly the new owners of the Maplewood Mall was taking the warranties, however my wife and I went there a few weeks back and they said they aren’t since they aren’t the same company. Multiple people have been trying to find out how to get a hold of Hoff because of the lifetime warranty. Where are we to go now? Give us money back for our lifetime warranty and at least Hoff should contact us!

I own 3 rings purchased at this Hoff Diamonds location for which I purchased lifetime diamond warranties with lifetime maintenance at additional cost to me in the purchase. I have kept my end of the agreement by bringing them in every 6 months for cleaning and checking the stones. The Maplewood Mall location is now permanently closed and I was directed to continue my rechecks at the Burnsville Center location. On my last visit there, the salesperson, a man named either Tony or Terry, said the Burnsville store was also closing and informed me that a new location would be opened in Woodbury in the next few months. This now appears to be a lie. Now both Maplewood and Burnsville stores have permanently closed, phones have been disconnected and a Woodbury store does not exist. I know of no way to contact this business and my lifetime warranties are now worthless. It appears that Hoff Diamonds has no intention of honoring the warranties which I have in writing.

Fiance purchased me an engagement ring and wedding band in October, 2017. I went in for my initial "warranty inspection" in BURNSVILLE after learning their Maplewood location was closed at 6 months. At that time, I was informed that there would be a new location opening up in Woodbury that I would be able to go to for my next inspection. 6 months later, I am looking up that address and realizing the entire company is closed and out of business. Not a single letter, email, or call about the warranty and where it will be transferred and he had to pay more to get the warranty in the first place and was told it would be honored at any store, even once they were closed.
Absolutely disgusted in the service, lies, theft, and fraud that you have now committed - we would not have purchased such an EXPENSIVE ring knowing I am now on my own to fix it.....
ALSO, had a diamond fall out of the ring within 2 days of my initial "inspection" and had to fight to get that paid for - within 6 months of purchasing the ring.
Way to ruin the most special time of my life and important asset I have.

We were sold a lifetime contract for gold and diamond repair that cost above the purchase price ice. The lady at the store said they were reopen a store at a strip mall in Woodbury. That does not appear to be the case. I am looking for a refund of my lifetime warranty contract

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Sep 21, 2018

Hi ***,

Thanks for letting me know but the business has been closed since February. I don't have the mental capacity to keep responding to people that are mad that we went out of business. I can't change that or refund a 20 year old warranty for them. I tried to remove my email since it ruins my day every time I get an angry customer complaint. Hope you understand. Thank you and have a good weekend!

I am rejecting this response because:
I have a signed document that I was in the store June 8, 2018 and they inspected my rings at the Burnsville location the female that signed off on my rings lied indicating we could not get our ring sized under warranty as they didn’t currently have a jeweler until they re-opened a new location in a Woodberry strip mall my warrantee the lifetime warrantee that I paid extra for was only two years old. Some how the business should be able to refund the amount paid for the warrantent that I was not allowed to use.

My husband purchased and engagement ring and wedding band two years ago from Hoff Diamonds in Burnsville. He also paid extra for a lifetime warranty which I have kept up with by driving 45mins one way every six months to have my ring cleaned and inspected. Today I drove there to get my ring cleaned and inspected as it was at my six month point and realized the store was closed. I did not receive any information stating the store had closed, no info on what I could do with my warranty, or if anyone had taken over the warranties. At my last inspection they assured me that the Burnsville store was staying open but being taken over by another store who would honor my warranty. I am extremely disappointed that I am now unsure if my warranty is garbage or if there ever will be another store to honor my warranty. I also purchased another diamond band and extra warranty for that writhin the last year. I have had several small diamonds fall out in which my warranty covered and I am fearful that it will happen again and now I am not going to be covered. I just feel they did a huge disservice their customers and failed to give them accurate information of what would happen when they closed. I would like them to make it right by explaining what their customers are supposed to do with their warranties now that they’re closed and explain what the next steps are instead of leaving everyone upset and wondering what will happen to their jewelry. My wedding ring is extremely important and I am not happy that I have to worry about having to pay for diamonds when they fall out or if I ever need my band refitted.

I have been trying to contact them or find any information about where in woodbury are they located at. Their website is out dated. There facebook page is not active. I've called but theres no answers. I've email them but no response. I've purchase some jewelry from them and bought warranty for them as well. I was told that they would still honor the contract once they move to Woodbury. So far I havent heard anything from them. With the amount of money I paid for their jewelry and warranty, I want them to honor their promise and word. The last thing I want to hear is that my warranty is not valid becuase it hasnt been service in 6 months.

I purchased a diamond ring along with lifetime warranty from Hoff Diamonds. I am up to date on every 6 month check up to keep the warranty valid and now they have shut their doors at every location. I was told that a new company would be purchasing Hoff Diamonds and taking over all warranties. I found out today from the new company that Hoff Diamonds lied to their customers and said they will not be taking over the previous warranties. I have found no record of Hoff Diamonds filing bankruptcy, therefore they must still be well off from taking people's money. I have tried numerous times to contact the company with no responses.

We purchased the extended LIFETIME warranty for my engagement ring (in 1994) and for my wedding ring and my husband's wedding ring (in 1998). According to our paper work we have diamond replacement and gold maintenance for my engagement ring and wedding ring. My Husband has diamond replacement. We kept up with our every 6 month check ins. Now the company is out of business. We even purchased another ring in in February with the promise that we could get a warranty when we got the six month check at the Burnsville store. We would have never purchased the last ring if we knew we could not get a warranty. We did our part in getting the rings checked. Hoff should do their part and refund the LIFETIME warranty we purchased if they can't follow through on the warranty.

I'm happy to see that you've used your warranties for over 20 years. We truly appreciate your business. The last thing we wanted to do was close after 80 years. We can not refund warranties but it seems you've got lots of use from them other than the more recently purchased warranty. We recommend all jewelry, warranty or no warranty, should be appraised and turned into your personal insurance. Most jewelry stores should be happy and able to inns clean your ring

Customer Response • Jun 25, 2018

I am rejecting this response because: We were taken advantage of. We paid money to have these rings covered for our lifetime. Now that warranty is no good. We gave Hoff Jewelers $179.99 of our hard earned money. Now that money is wasted on a warranty they no longer cover. What happens if my ring gets damaged or one of the stones falls out? Who is going to pay for that? We paid $179.99 for Hoff Jewelers to cover that. Now they have closed their doors and no longer cover what we paid EXTRA for. If you can no longer provide the service refund the money paid for the service. It is just that simple. Don't take consumers money and then leave them with nothing.

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Jun 27, 2018

Your request is rediculous. The business has closed. We will absolutely NOT consider giving you your money back. You've used your warranties for over 20years. Get your ring insured if you are worried. Businesses do close, we are not the first. Life is too short to be this mad about 179$ spent 20 years ago. Please realize a lot of people lost their jobs and a family lost their business. Please enjoy your summer, and keep taking good care of your jewelry and realize life is good and everything is going to be ok.

Not happy with them! They closed all of their stores when they said they were keeping a couple open. Then they close them too. I have emailed them and no response so I call them and they say they are moving to Woodbury sometime. Yeah right! I have spent good money on a lifetime warranty! You have to get your ring checked every 6 months and if you need it resized you have to pay for it where other jewlery stores don't make you come in every 6 months. Terrible service and a bunch of liars. They even said letters were to go out and on their website but nothing.

So I purchased a lifetime warranty from Hoff at there Maplewood location, was told it was closing but warranty would still be valid at Burnsville location. Now that location is closed too. No notification, not answering calls, now where does my lifetime warranty go?

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Jun 19, 2018

We don't have an answer because we don't know if we can remain open. You can continue to use your warranty at Burnsville.

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Jun 19, 2018

Burnsville is still open.

I am rejecting this response because:
Did you guys move somewhere else in the Mall? Your store has nothing in it. Your Facebook page and google search has a lot of questions and it seems you’re not replying to them about this same issue. Also the businesses next to it said you were closed as well. At least put something out there if your opening a new location which it seems people have been told Woodbury would be where you move to.

I purchased diamond earrings from Hoff Jewelers in the Burnsville Mall. They were having a "Going out of Business Sale". I was shown a pair of earrings that were "valued" at $1399.00 on sale for $546.00. I asked the sales lady, "are you sure they are worth $1400.00? They are not that big". She assured to me that they were worth that much. We agreed to buy them, but were told we "Had to sign a paper saying we would not return them". While she was ringing up the sale, the numbers "were not matching", another sales associate helped her, was it the correct price?? I'm wondering that too!

Driving home, I was feeling very uneasy about my purchase. I took them to a jewelry store in Owatonna (where I live). They were not worth $1400.00, they were not the total weight I was told, and they were not good quality diamonds!! I called the store and said that I would like my money back, they said, "unfortunately, all sales are final and you can't return them". I told him, "unfortunately, I was told that I was purchasing earrings worth $1400.00, and they are not worth that much, and I would really like to return them". I asked to talk to the owner, he wasn't in, he would be in tomorrow. I left my number for him to call me, no return call. I called them, they said he would be in on Monday, no call on Monday! I would really like something done before they shut their doors for good.

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Mar 14, 2018

Im sorry that you are regretting your purchase. There is nothing unusual about the final price paid compared to the retail of $1399. Jewelry is like any other retail and we never charge the full retail amount, it is always discounted. It seems you were given at least 60% off the retail price which coordinates with the prices given to all of our customers during the sale. We can not refund any purchases that were made during the sale.

I have several items of diamond jewelry purchased at Hoff diamonds, both at their Roseville, and then later at the Maplewood location. All diamond bond guarantee checks have been kept up by me, visiting the store every six months for inspection. Today I learned that the Maplewood store is closed, and the only remaining location is Burnsville which is nearly an hour away from my home. I would like to have the bond guarantee transferred to a local jeweler for future inspections.

Hoff Diamonds and Gems Response • Feb 28, 2018

Im sorry this is an inconvenience but on the bright side we still are open and you can keep your warranties active by visiting Burnsville every 6months. We don't have the ability to transfer warranties. Most jewelers are not willing to take over old warranties from other companies. I understand that Burnsville is a long drive, but its still an option at this time.

I love this store and I love that it's always been a small family owned business. High quality compared to the chain jewelry stores that flood the industry

We have been customer's of Hoff jewelry since 2003. We have purchased 4 rings through their company. At the time of the first 2 wedding ring purchases, that we made at Northtown Mall in Blaine, we had no idea that they would make our DIAMOND BOND INSURANCE guarantee so hard to keep in the future! They closed the closest location in the fall of 2011. which then forced us to drive an additional 20 more miles, to the Maplewood Mall location.
Yesterday,12/12/17 we get a notification that they are also closing that location (Maplewood) & expect us to drive all the way to Burnsville! That's a 45-50 mile drive from our home! And the Hoff owner's are selling the business, to which we have no ties to.
I feel that they should sell our diamond bond to a more convenient location, where we can keep up w/our expensive diamond bond policy of 2 checks of the rings a year. Or they should refund us the insurance money, so we can hire a local jeweler to take care of our rings.
I have had many other problems w/this location & I'm not surprised they're closing down. Very bad customer service, to boot. I'm hoping we can get a local jeweler to take over our business & diamond bonds so we don't need to deal w/them anymore. But we already paid for the insurance, so I expect Hoff's to pick up the transfer. The Burnsville location is going under new ownership, so I'd like this taken care of sooner than later.
Thank You

I purchased a lifetime Warrantee, Registration Nos, 13217 and 240187, on 12/7/1997 and 6/3/2003, for two diamond rings from Hoff Jewelers quoted as follows:

"We will replace any diamond which in normal use chips, cracks or separates from its mounting and is lost, with a diamond of equal retail value, for the purchaser's lifetime...,free of charge..."

I took my diamonds to be inspected and cleaned every year, only one ring was found to require prongs repair, and it was faithfully performed.

When I sought inspection this year, I was told that my lifetime warrantee was"...really old, and even though I was still alive and well, they would no longer honor their warrantee," and without notice or compensation voided them by writing "VOID" on each.

I believe that standard business practice would classify this action as a breach of contract, deserving compensation in the amount necessary to purchase the same from another Jeweler. Do you agree?

Thank you for your help in this matter.
