Hollingsworth Auto Sales of Raleigh Reviews (3)

Came here to buy my first car because I read great reviews about how honest and genuine these people are. I was completely new to the process and hoping to get a car I could be really excited about. I am on a tight budget and needed a bang for my buck. I bought my car trusting that what they told me was the truth and expectant that their mechanic would make sure it was up to par. I purchased the car and was happy with it. Unfortunately I ran into a friend that works at a used lot and they told me the car was in rough condition. Several things were close to breaking and with over 150k miles the timing belt and clutch had never been changed or checked. I called the dealer to tell them that I felt I had been cheated and he began yelling at me on the phone telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. Maybe he was right, I don't know much about cars, so I let it go. Next day, I'm driving and less than 30 minutes into my drive it starts smoking. I called them to get help and all the guy said was "that's convienent that it broke down right after you called." As if I had planned this!! Then they fixed it and wanted me to pay for the full repair. I asked to pay half and after arguing and me threatening arbitration, they agreed. I picked it up 3 days later and the car began smoking again within 5 miles of the shop. I went back and asked for help and this time they fixed the repair. They told be there was no way they would buy the car back and I had to deal with it. Now, less than a month later the timing belt broke and I'm in the hole again trying to fix the car. I don't have the time or money for this and they left me feeling completely hopeless and unsatisfied. They were rude throughout the entire process and treated me like an ie for not knowing as much about cars as them. I will never go back to these people and highly recommend if you do decide to go to them to have a third party check out the car first. I called them today to see their reaction to the timing belt and one son said he would have [redacted] call me back. I will re-edit this review if they handle it correctly, but for now I am sad and in disbelief.

Purchased a car after I was told by 2 sales reps. Drove the car home a 1.5hrs, it broke down on me before getting home. I drove 1.5hrs on 2/5/14 to pick up this car because the sales rep told me it was a great car and I needed to come see it. They showed me the car, swore up and down that the car was in great working conditions and that they had the car for over a month and been driving it, yes the car is not perfect and there were some things I pointed out to them that were not mentioned on their online ad. I test drove the car for around 1-2 miles and it seemed fine. They claim they send their cars to their mechanic and they check them to be sure nothing needs to be fix and have them pass inspection to put it up for sale. I drove the car home around 5-6pm and ended up stranded on I40 West, I did not make it back home until 1030pm. After sitting off on an exit trying to see what was wrong with it, Cylinder 4 was misfiring. so we went bought spark plugs and wires, took the spark plugs off and Cyl4. had water inside the piston chamber along with rust all over the spark plug and cable. Not normal obviously, the spark plugs seemed they had never been replaced or "checked". This morning I called the dealer, I explain them the problem they said they don't check "cheap" cars and that it was sold as-is! $3,000 dollars may be cheap for them but it is not for me. I didn't even have the car in my possession for even 24hrs and it was already broken. I asked them what could they do to make the sale right, and he pretty much told me in plain old terms that I was on my own. I believe I have the right to come to Revdex.com and voice my feelings in hope that something gets done, I am not sure if these guys are doing this because of my [redacted] or because I was not an aggressive costumer coming in yelling and cursing or if they pretty much don't care for theirs customers. Please Advice on what I need to do, I have a car that is half way working and I cant seem to drive out without having to worry about this car breaking down on me. I appreciate the time and help.Dealer Name:[redacted] Auto Sales of Raleigh LLC.3808 Capital Blvd.Raleigh, NC XXXXXCar purchased: 2002 Infiniti G20Auto Trader ID: [redacted] Stock #: XXXXXXDesired SettlementI need them to refund the money, full amount of #3,000 even.I can not trust these guys with another one of their cars or their mechanics to do the repair.Or Have me take the car to a mechanic of my choice, and have them pay the full amount in repairs.ThanksBusiness Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: XXXXXXXXXXCustomer purchased a vehicle with 217k Miles for less than a $2500 sale price. WE DO NOT WARRANTY ANY VEHICLE WITH OVER 200K MILES as we discussed with the customer before he purchased. The car was listed for a $3490 Sale Price and was discounted over a thousand dollars for the customer because he could not afford any more than that. We only did this to try to help out the customer and their financial situation. The vehicle ran fine while on the lot for sale and throughout the test drive with the customer. The vehicle just passed a North Carolina State Inspection which is only possible if there are no spark plug issues. We do not replace all spark plugs on every vehicle unless they are proven defective at the time. Apparently after a few hours on the highway one of the spark plugs went bad. There is no way of knowing when this will happen until it does. The TOTAL cost of repair parts and labor is $57.97 and we would have paid for if the customer would have just contacted us previous to resorting to filing a complaint!!!Final Consumer Response Dear [redacted], I was unavailable when you called but I did get your voicemail. I called and spoke to your employee couple of times before taking a different method of action, all you/employee did was brush off the problem by saying you do not check spark plugs, you do not guarantee "cheap" cars as your employee mentioned. Agreed, but I did not owned this car for more than 2 hours and it had me sitting on the side of I40w. The car did not only blow a sparkplug, Cylinder 4 had water in the piston chamber as shown on the pictures I sent to the cellphone on the business card. The plug had rust inside the thread and outside on the hex nut. Iit was obvious that the water was in the engine for longer than the hour trip, again please see pictures. The only thing I was asking from you was a little bit of consideration to ATLEAST have me drive another Hour and a half to the dealer for you to take the car over to your mechanics and make sure the engine did not have a cracked block or head. You also made sure to let me know you do not make money off these cheap cars so it would be pointless to spend money on repairs, but even if the car cost $500 dollars or $40,000 dollars you can't show favoritism just because one customer spends more money at your dealer than the other, again the car broke down in less than 2 hours of new ownership. Also, I appreciate the fact that you "knocked down" the price almost $1,000, When I drove 90+ miles thinking this car had 135k miles as posted on the sale ad when in reality it had 217k and pictures were all taking in shaded areas to cover body/paint imperfections. Sure that's a way to lure in customers but a dirty way if you ask me, car is used and not perfect, got it.I know what a Buy As-Is car is all about, I am not coming to you a week or months later asking you to fix a car problem, but put yourself in my shoes, the car broke down with water in the cylinder/piston chamber on the way home from your dealer. To you $2500-$3000 is an easy cheap sale, to me is my hard earned salary. Leave it at that, I do not need your assistance any longer I will have the car towed to get it looked at locally, all it took to remove the spark plug was 1-2 minutes each, but if you are concern about the expense it takes to check a high mileage car and how it may impact your budget then its best to sell "like -new Low Miles" cars to save you self the need of spending a few bucks on "cheap cars".Please send the tag as soon as you get it. Thank you,

I purchased a used [redacted] that turned out to have significant and expensive defects.I purchased a used [redacted], was told it was thoroughly inspected. While I paid slightly above blue book value, within a short time discovered the car had significant issues: 1. A severe oil leak that requires refilling every 2 weeks;2. a convertible roof that is only 1/2 sealed therefore leaking causing flooding and mechanical issues. The cost to inspect these issues is several hundred and the cost to repair total about 2/3 the price I paid for the vehicle. I emailed the dealer upon discovering these issues and received no response whatsoever.Desired SettlementI would like to return the car or in some way be compensated for these issues. The repairs are so costly, that it nearly pays for the blue book value were it in decent condition. The dealer who inspected the vehicle recommended I try to get my money back, even if usage was factored in.Business Response Customer came in dealership on two different occasions with mobile mechanics with her each time. She had the opportunity to have it checked out before time of purchase, which she did twice. Multiple test drives were given. There were no known issues with the vehicle at the time of sale. Vehicle passed North Carolina State Inspection before the sale. Customer declined the warranty that was available for the vehicle. We do appreciate the business from the customer, However this complaint is the first time we have heard anything out of her since the time of sale. Anyone that has an [redacted] knows that they can be expensive to service, which is why our dealership offered the customer a warranty plan contract!
