Holloway Motor Cars (HMC) of Manchester, NH, is doing the following:
Misdiagnosing differential seal replacement resulting in an unnecessary preventative maintenance job (avoid more expensive gear damage)
When they do this repair, they perform a lower quality differential seal replacement (partial - not including rear cover seal) costing more to the customer than performing A COMPLETE and higher quality repair on all differential seals (rear cover seal included.)
To point 1., after twice checking my differential with visual inspection only, I went to another Mercedes Benz dealership Service Dept in Massachusetts, and they found my differential (RWD, C240) to be fineThis other dealership checked fluid level and the vent (clogging), far more thorough than HMC's visual inspection only
To point 2., if you use MB USA's own tech info system (STARTEK), and look at the flat-rate labor hours in that system, removing and reinstalling the differential, changing the seals and removing/installing wheels can be done for less than the hours HMC charges for labor (a FULL seal replacement can be done for no more than hrs.) The hr savings far exceeds the cost of the additional seal (rear cover.)
HMC needs to correct this and, to date, have given no indication they willIf they don't, going forward, customers are being overcharged on an inferior job, one which, by the way, they may not need at all (misdiagnosis.)
