My 18 year old son was placed at Holly Hill through [redacted] Hospital.

First come, first serve.

Arrival at Holly Hills, Raleigh NC.
As his mother, I was on file to have information and give information to facilitate is recovery.
He was evaluated by a clinician 1 time in 7 days.
The staff were not available. I had to call for hours, leave endless messages.
Most "extensions' that I was transferred to, just rang and rang. No voicemail or anything.
[redacted] had called me at least 4 times, screaming and begging me to "get him out of there".
I desperately did try to reach staff, any staff there.
No one answered.
[redacted] was shipped in and out of several units, even with his "code" I was unable to locate my 18 year old son.
The units he was suppose to be on....no one answered. Three times I was transferred to the janitorial unit.
I did try...XXX-XXX-XXXX, XXX-XXX-XXXX, XXX-XXX-XXXX,XXX-XXX-XXXX.
I also tried the 1-800 phone number on their website.

Trying to make some sense of where he was.
At one point I called 911.
The following day, the staff called me back? They reassured me that I would not be able to get [redacted] out. Not to "waist my time".
Two days ago I finally got a hold of his social worker. She said that she that she not had the time to talk to him yet, but would call me. She also informed me that he would be there at least until next week. December 15 or longer. [redacted] was in good hands. Doing well.

Today at 0915 AM, [redacted] was released. Doors opened.
[redacted] was on 3 new medications, started 2 days prior.
He had no transportation back to [redacted] 5 hours away.
They simply called him a cab to the bus station, that he would have to pay for. [redacted] did not have enough money to pay for a bus back to [redacted].
They did not notify me that he would be discharged today, promised me that he was absolutely not getting "out" for at least a week.
Holley Hill promised that when he was discharged... they would notify me, supervise and make sure that he had safe transportation back to [redacted].
My son called me today. He was scared, freezing and somewhat delusional. He wanted to sleep under a sign an intersection at I 40 and, ?

[redacted] wasn't sure where he was. He was waiting for me though.

I called the NC State troopers to find him,
Officer [redacted] State Trooper, NC, found [redacted] cold on the side of the highway.
He took him to a warm, safe place. I then picked him up.
HOLLY HILL.
I WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE OUT OF BUISNESS.

The care our child received at Holly Hill Children's Hospital was greatly negligent. They were nothing more than a glorified baby sitter and not a good one at that. Not worth the cost! Do not bring your children here if you want them to get good care, counsel or support. We've submitted a complaint about their lack of care and their blatant unprofessionalism. We asked that we not be charged for such negligence. They denied our claim without any apology or compensation.

Our child was hospitalized. Soon after admittance I came across a text on my child's phone. We realized this alleged incident could pose a new set of challenges and risks for our child's recovery. It could also influence the course of treatment for our child. I left a message, but didn't hear back from anyone. I called back and spoke with our assigned social worker. The social worker sounded concerned which I appreciated. She even got our child's pyschiatrist on the phone with me. I shared my newfound information with him and expressed my concerns. I also asked how best to approach this with my child. The Social Worker said it would be best to let her to talk with our child first. She said she would do so the next morning and call me back soon afterwards.

I waited all day the next day and never heard back from that social worker. In the meantime my concern for my child grew since I was advised by the social worker not to discuss it. Around that time, one night during visiting hours my distraught child told me that the Psychiatrist pulled him/her out of group briefly, stood at the door outside the room and said abruptly: "Your mom is concerned about your mental health." That flew all over my child the wrong way and made things worse in my opinion. The Dr then left and my child went back to the group very confused and hurt.

I continued to call the social worker and leave messages. Another day went by and I still hadn't heard back from anyone. Finally I went down there in person one afternoon and asked to speak with my daughter's social worker. I was informed she'd resigned days ago. It turns out this social worker resigned the very day we spoke on the phone together. Her voicemails weren't being checked by anyone else on staff and she left no notes or info to pass along to the other social workers. I was livid to hear this. I asked to speak with her new assigned social worker now. I was told she wasn't given a replacement yet which was unbelievable to me. I then asked her to speak with ANY social worker there.

A male social worker came out to talk with me. He was unfamiliar with any of the concerns expressed previously with the resigned social worker. He did say that our child was participating in morning group. I had to start from the beginning about the text I found, my concerns about what can be done to make sure she is getting proper support for this, etc. He said he would pass the info onto her new Social worker when she got one. A day or so later I hear from her new Social Worker. She apologized profusely for the oversight and said she would meet with my child soon. In the meantime the hospital has already scheduled an exit counseling session. We all met her newly assigned social worker for the first time at this family counseling session. Afterwards she had a one on one with our child. Two days later our child was discharged. It's like they couldn't get her out of there soon enough. The school even thought it was too soon and asked us to keep our child out of school longer.

During our child's stay, they'd have two group sessions in the morning which I'm told were fairly generalized. After the group sessions the children may have art or gym, but mostly hang out in a certain room for the remainder of the day until bedtime. They weren't allowed back into their rooms for naps, etc until bedtime. They basically played cards, listened to music and watched TV. They didn't have any instructional classes like many reputable hospitals offer for school credit so they won't fall further behind. The more behind they fall in school, the more stressful and difficult it can be for children to assimilate and catch-up upon their return.

Regarding other incidents during our child's stay, one of the patients hid paperclips in his tennis shoes and gave them to another patient who proceeded to cut with them. Another patient kept staring inappropriately at the girls and purposely touched one of the girl's bottom as they passed ** the hall. As a parent you can imagine my concerns when I heard about these incidents too.

I wish I had something positive to say about Holly Hill Children's Hospital. However, I think we'd been better off with [redacted] or our home.

I wish I had something positive to say about Holly Hill Children's Hospital. However, I think we'd been better off with [redacted] or our home.

My account has a negative balance. I was misinformed by person handling account. I have money owed, rude customer service, and no response to voicemailsI began leaving messages to at Holly Hill in August, to stop automatic debits because my final balance was much less than the debit. Since August I have called at least six times. Left four messages, and no one has returned my calls. The lady, a representative for Holly Hill working at the [redacted] and [redacted] office has misinformed saying an exact amount for the balance was taken out. My bank statements reflect otherwise. The automatic debit was $200.00. My final payment was $118.00. Someone else at Holly Hill told me I am due a reimbursement check of over $80. I have been referred back and forth. And the representative for Holly Hill working at [redacted] and [redacted] has been exceptionally rude, lied about drafting, specifically saying only $118 was drafted. And she could not help me. Yet, Holly Hill referred me to her saying she oversees my account. I've gotten the run around, and have been treated without dignity or respect from this lady working at [redacted] and [redacted] as a Holly Hill representative.Desired SettlementA phone call outside of the individual working at [redacted] and [redacted], explaining where the mix up is, and full payment of any monies overpaid. Business Response Holly Hill Hospital senior management was notified of the account concern by the patient via a Holly Hill Hospital website contact form on September 21, 2016. A review of the case indicated that the patient was due a refund and the patient was contacted on September 21st and notified that the full refund amount would be mailed. The refund check was cut on September 22, 2016. We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience caused, and will use the patient's experience to improve processes in the future.Consumer Response This resolution is sufficient. Hopefully, myself nor anyone else will have to go through a similar situation. Thank you for the intervention.

Not providing detailed bill for two separate charges - doctor and hospital at all. Collections demanding payment without bill and then was incorrectHospital stay Nov. 8-12 2013. On 11/20/2013 I called billing to pay bill - was given discount on my part and I paid over the phone [redacted] before insurance. Was not told about more bills such as doctors at that time. I requested a detailed bill since I had not received one at that time - I was not planning on paying over then phone but felt forced into to GET the discount. My insurance was filed on 11/22 for the hospital stay and I received the EOB. My insurance again was billed 12/3 for doctors and I received my EOB. Still no bill from either hospital or doctors. On 2/3/2014 I receive a DEMAND LETTER for [redacted] from [redacted] & [redacted],[redacted] I called Holly Hill business office for a detailed bill which I picked up that day (not detailed just totals) and was not really a bill - it showed -0- balance and I was told they did not bill for the doctors that I would need to call the collection people. I did and was talked to as if I had no sense. Their letter had ONLY a total of [redacted] and I tried to explain that my EOBs did not match up with what they were asking for yet they could not explain the bill total to me. I requested a bill copy and it was emailed the next day AFTER I had to call again and ask and to also explain my call to my insurance company who again said I did not owe that amount and that the bill from Holly Hill for the doctors was incorrect. Ms. [redacted] tried talking over me and would not allow me to explain what the ins. company had said and she then sent the detailed bill via email. I again called my ins. company and we reviewed together the charges and payments - allowed amounts and what I COULD owe which was [redacted] on EOB [redacted] error on ins. co.) In trying to explain to Ms. [redacted] before that I did not have to pay anymore deductible because it was met she then would change the conversation - almost if to trip me up. The issue - the bill(s) were NEVER sent to me. The collection letter was for [redacted] - My insurance company [redacted] said I owed [redacted] and the bill sent to me by Ms. [redacted] online totaled [redacted] - they do not provide good services and for those of us who have insurance they take money or give a "discount" for paying early - take the insurance assignment payments and then demand more money - never sending a bill NEVER. My acct # with [redacted] is XXXXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXTOG phone number to Ms. [redacted] XXX-XXX-XXXX Letter was dated Jan. 24, 2014 [redacted] is the business office manager at Holly Hill XXX-XXX-XXXX I also talked to [redacted] at Holly Hill as well about this issue who could only help so much since it was a doctor (IN HOUSE DOCTOR) bill. It was billed as [redacted] of NC just as the hospital stay was too so they are the same - just hiding under different billing codes. [redacted] is looking into a code error as well with Holly Hill for me - they used an elevated code (Higher Payment) and also billed a day when the doctor was not even in the hospital. Having insurance is a good thing but being taken advantage of because I have coverage is not fair to me or anyone else who wants, needs and expects good health coverage.Desired SettlementOne - Holly Hill to be audited for billing issues maybe? Two - a copy of the hospital and doctors bills they say I was sent and Three maybe someone to accept that they are wrong in the bill and tell me so - this could cloud my credit if not settled.Business Response We have spoken with our customer and their insurance, we are currently working with an insurance supervisor to find out why the remittance sent to the hospital differed from what was sent to the customer for patient balances due. We have corrected the billing errors that this has caused and had several communications with the customer, account has since been paid in full. Statements and billings have been mailed out to the customer for her records. We are deeply sorry for the billing errors on the customers account and hope to have a fix for this problem as soon as the problem with incorrect insurance remittances is resolved through the insurance company. We have also requested records from our outside billing agency, [redacted] & [redacted] to review the entirety of the accountFinal Consumer Response Holly Hill Hospital did work with me to resolve this issue and I did pay my account in full to Holly Hill Hospital and not the outside collections agency [redacted] and [redacted] As of today 2/27/14 I have not received the requested copies of the bills in question even though I have paid and even corrected an incorrect street name in the mailing address. I am still waiting. I have encouraged HHH to get copies of phone recording and email communications to see how it was taken care of with force by [redacted] and [redacted] The insurance company may have given an incorrect amount when I was admitted but I know they as send the provider a summary which shows amount HHH bills with codes for services and allowed amounts under agreed contract and how much was paid and how much I owe in difference. HHH wanted me to pay full cost and not the contracted cost and that is where this issues rested. I hope things are cleared up and the HHH business office manager does see in looking that using an outside collection source for such small INCORRECT amounts makes HHH look bad and it is harassment in general to people like myself who are more than willing to pay if only we could get a bill - incorrect or not - I am still waiting for the copy of the bill now.
