Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2015/09/14) */
I will be discussing this later today with my lawyer. Thus I accept no liability, as I feel these claims are so outlandish. I also feel this customer should be paying my costs, as this complaint, its time consumption are completely unnecessary...

for her and us.
I have taken her complaint In order as follows, but without full legal advise and support.
I was appointed to undertake several handyman tasks in March 2015. She signed my Standard Terms and Conditions document copy attached FYI, on or about 03/24/2015. Para 8 of that document is relevant to this complaint. She has never taken up that option and so is due for full payment. This document was drawn up some 15 years ago by an approved lawyer, in good standing, some 15 years ago and has stood me in good stead ever since. I never undertake a project without this document being signed by the customer.
The objective was to complete some safety improvements and cosmetic painting to the deck and house before their wedding celebrations in June 2015. There was plenty of time at the outset and we began as early as practicable. The early season weather impeded progress outside, and we completed the work with only hours to spare. There was constant, good communication with her and her husband throughout this time, with scheduled and unscheduled visits throughout the time of about 3 months. I considered them to be very good customers throughout at a very difficult time for them.
The job began long before the carpets were shampooed in about June. When we began there was lots of dirt, cobwebs and dust in the house. The deck was in a poor state of repair with many severely rotted timber parts and weak posts. The main bathroom was quite unpleasant with old caulking, dirty and moldy grouting around the bath and other areas. There were other poorly maintained and dirty areas. It was not the cleanest or best maintained house I have seen or been in. by a long way. The house required a good cleaner to attend to these issues, IMO.
We completed all the improvement tasks, in June for the wedding, with only hours to spare before guests began to arrive.
After the wedding celebrations in June we began the drywall ceiling repairs, which I had been asked to do before the wedding. The ceiling damage had been done by her husbands oversight in fitting a new dishwasher.
I don't normally take on drywall repair issues, because of the dust issues. I took on this one, as a favor to this customer, because I thoughts was a good, honorable and trustworthy customer. She probably doesn't know this. The was clearly misplaced trust in hindsight.
I specifically warned her of the likely mess that would ensue. Most people recognize the issues with drywall dust. They didn't clear the TV room or move the Entertainment system or cover anything effectively. We had to move out all the furniture, cover the floor with TARPs to collect the ceiling debris and protect the area from dust, as best we could. There didn't seem to be any problems at all at the time. She never raised an issue.
We know and accept that drywall dust is very pervasive. I thought she understood that, her husband certainly did. Drywall dust comes with health risks to the workers and dust masks would be worn. WE know the dust was a problem. Late in the day we used dust extraction through a window, for our own health protection.
We laid plastic sheets to walk on, not mentioned here. WE have to consider our safety when walking and working. Plastic sheeting and coverings can be dangerous to walk on particularly on stairs and steps.
I am not aware of the contractor who thought we were rude. I have not heard of this before. I thought we had worked very well and cooperatively with the one I met. If this event occurred it was during the first part of the project. I.e. during the original project before June.
I am not aware of the broken night lights, or I would have replaced them FOC.
The driving issues I have never heard of. I would admit to driving quicker than many and know that I can put a truck and trailer in both forward and reverse directions in where most people would consider difficult or even impossible places. I do not put other people at risk when driving. It is impossible to drive down her driveway at speed, it is too narrow. The road to her driveway is also quite narrow, inhibiting any speeding issues.
Her husband seemed to understand the drywall issues and even complimented us on the work we had done.
The hiring of the stranger issue seems to have sparked the animosity of this issue. I can completely understand her feelings. I have cooperated with the Sherif at every event required. I even reported the event to the Sherif after I had been told of the thefts. Now I only seem to get animosity from this customer and a determination to damage my character and integrity. Oddly, the sherif told me she had no animosity against me then. Thesis was either well disguised or did not arise until later and doesn't seem to have abated with time.
Talk to my reference if you want to get an independent third party view of my honesty and integrity.
The person I have referenced will testify to my character. She is not alone by any means. She also knows and knows of this person and of her possible history with others via hearsay and maybe gossip.
I agree that the event she refers to in her final sentences was regrettable I am grateful that she and her husband saw fit to abide by the document they had signed up to and paid the final invoice. Whilst she raised comment there was no valid business reason IMO to take on any of her emotional issues, even though they were probably significant for her.
What she has done since I find difficult to appreciate in a business woman of her supposed experience and age. I trusted her and her husband and find that trust totally misplaced now.
Because I had put myself out on this customer's behalf, above and beyond the normal business requirement, over may months since March 2015, I felt that the full amount of the invoice was due. The wrk was done to completion and approved by her husband. Therefore the total invoice was due and she hadn't used Caluse 8 of my Standard Terms which she had signed up to, which is there for this very reason. Complaints after the even are now too late, as you will appreciate.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 11, 2015/09/19) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
He is giving false information. My husband said the drywall dust was acceptable IN THE ROOM IN WHICH THEY WERE WORKING. He expected [redacted] to keep the door closed and not have the drywall dust go throughout the house.
Tracking dirt throughout a customer's house should be a concern of every vendor. Most peole that come into my house put the shoe coverings on to protect their customer's home. This never dawned on [redacted] to use. I asked him to take his shoes off as we had just shampooed the rugs. He took them off for about 100 feet and then put them back on while walking down the stairs and all over the downstairs rugs. As he referenced, we had a very muddy spring. Yet, he didn't think of this option and didn't seem to care when he saw the mud and dirt he was tracking into the house on the specific path HE was creating.
I was not told that he doesn't do drywall repairs or else I would have hired another person who has experience in this area. It became obvious to us quickly that this job was above [redacted]'s skill level. But it was too late to do anything else once he had cut the whole in the ceiling.
Finally, [redacted] seems to shrug off the fact that he brought a stranger into our house who then stole thousands of dollars of jewelry that has not been recovered. How did this person have so much time to go through our entire house if he was being appropriately supervised by [redacted]? Why didn't [redacted] notice that this person was gone from the project area for large periods of time?
All [redacted] focused on was getting paid. We didn't have any tracking information about his helper because he was paid "cash" vs. the approved method of paying people.
[redacted] talks about his time in completing this information. Let's talk about the time it has taken to go through numerous Sheriff interviews. Meetings with the [redacted] Going to pawn shops in the hopes of finding my mother's engagement ring. Jumping at every noise in my own house because I worry that his helper may be outside. None of this would have occurred if he had vetted his employees appropriately and not picked them up on a street corner. This is the point [redacted] has missed.
I would like reimbursement for the cleaning service I had to employ to clean the drywall dust in the entire downstairs because he would not keep the doors closed to keep the dust to the room he was working in. There was two windows open that would have provided adequate ventilation so the doors could have been kept closed.
I am filing this with the Revdex.com because I want other homeowners to understand that [redacted] does handyman work as a hobby. He is not a professional tradesman with professional practices or standards.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 19, 2015/10/21) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There is no proposed resolution.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 21, 2015/10/23) */
At least my character, which is mine, is intact. My reputation is also so, by 99% of my customers. The attempts by this customer to sully my reputation and my character seem to have gone unheeded by the vast majority of people I meet.
I feel sincerely sorry for this sad person. There was a time when this customer was quite high in my appreciation of her as a customer, but this episode has brought out an unpleasant and malicious side of her character which few have seen, I imagine. I and my business do not need to do business with people like this. Maybe others might take heed.
