Home Improvements by Dennis Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The assertion that the issues with my flooring were caused by installer error is not my own. Mr. [redacted] has twice been provided a copy of the 44-page report, dated April 7, 2015, prepared by National Wood Flooring Association Certified Wood Flooring Inspector Michael [redacted] that concludes as follows: "Based upon my observations, the flooring was not installed properly and was not within industry standards." During his exhaustive inspection of the floor on March 25, 2015, Mr. [redacted] took both temperature and moisture readings that proved to be within manufacturer standards for the flooring. The gapping and issues with the quarter round were not product-related nor were they seasonal. They were, as has been confirmed by the independent, certified inspector, a result of faulty installation. Please note that the .pdf of the flooring inspection report is quite large (8 MB) and, therefore, will not be accepted by the Revdex.com's complaint system. However, I will be more than happy to provide a copy of this report via email or U.S. mail upon request.Further, Mr. [redacted] was first notified of the issues with the flooring on March 17, 2015, which was shortly after I first noticed the issues. He was provided a copy of the inspection report finding that the issues were installation-related on April 9, 2015. This was approximately eight months after the flooring was installed , not "almost a year and a half" as Mr. [redacted] stated in his response to the Revdex.com.I categorically deny that I requested the flooring to be stored in my garage. I was, in fact, very disturbed that Mr. [redacted] chose to deposit the flooring in the garage upon delivery on May 30, 2014, as I was well aware that the flooring needed to acclimate inside of the house. (Neither I nor any member of my family was at the house when Mr. [redacted] made the flooring delivery; he was granted entrance to the house by the selling real estate agent while I was at the closing. I did not arrive at the house until well after all of the flooring had been deposited in the garage.) I actually carried the 1,908 pounds of flooring into the house myself over the course of the next two days, so that it would have the opportunity to acclimate properly. Finally, while Mr. [redacted] did respond to my initial email sent on March 17, 2015, and he phoned my mother after he received my email with a copy of the inspection report on April 9, 2015, he has yet to respond to emails sent on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9, 2015, or to a certified, return-receipt letter sent by U.S. Mail on Sept. 10, 2015. (Mr. [redacted] signed for this letter on Sept. 22, 2015, 10 calendar days after notice of the letter was left at his home by the U.S. Postal Service.)Regards,
[redacted]

I deny the assertion Ms. [redacted] makes in her complaint that the gapping, cupping and quarter round issues with her flooring was caused by installer error.  The floor was installed according to the instructions for that floorI also deny that I have failed to contact Ms. [redacted] on...

this matter.  I responded to both Ms. [redacted] and her mother (who brought the initial concern to me), on more than one occasion.  Ms. [redacted] selected the flooring and purchased the flooring.  Per customer request, the flooring was store in her garage, which was not climate controlled..  I provided Ms.[redacted] (via email on Thursday March 19th) with a link to the product specifications which state “SEASONAL CHANGES What to expect (all installation methods) Seasonal gapping should be expected in all bamboo flooring and does not constitute a product failure.  It is normal that bamboo floors will be affected by fluctuating levels of humidity within the building.”  The instructions go on to state that air conditioning, dehumidifiers should be used and to avoid exposure to excess water.  Gapping is mentioned in the product literature for the product (which she purchased).  Asidefrom the manner in which the floor was stored prior to installation, It is impossible to confirm whether or not Ms. [redacted], over the course of the almost year and a half that the floor has been installed, has maintained the floor in a humidity controlled setting as directed in the product instructions.  In the same email, I provided instructions for her to contact the manufacturer and the retailer. I also offered to join a call with a representative of either company to help her voice her displeasure with the product.  Ms. [redacted] is not satisfied with my response that the issue is not with the installation but with the product and my refusal to pay her for issues which are unrelated to the installation.
