Very aggressive credit/collection culture and attitude Received certified mail letter threatening to lock our tanks and shut off service with a $reactivate fee all over a $unpaid balance I doubt the $fee is even enforceable since it appears to be a contract penalty Previously, we were customers of [redacted] (Osterman purchased [redacted] propane business) and never experienced this kind of crap

My experience with this company was badI spoke with more than one person over a few years to understand and resolve the annual tank fee however it remained a problemPhone calls were not returned requiring me to drive to the local officeI recently had the tank removed and have contracted with another supplierMy thoughts about this company is that they are deceptive and arrogantI wish I had canceled soonerMy advise if you are considering Osterman Propane turn degrees and run don't walk away

I have two tanks on my property and the company that delivered propane to my home before it was acquired by Osterman Propane would fill or top off both tanks when coming to my home to make a deliveryNow they only want to fill one tank at a timeI have been on automatic delivery for years and I ran out last FridayI was told they would come first thing in the morning, then that turned to the afternoonI am completely frustrated that they will not fill both tanks when making a deliveryI am told they go by degree daysI was actually told I use too much propane and if a driver had to go back to his truck and print out a new ticket to fill the 2nd tank that would take an extra minutes and does not make good business senseBetter to let a customer run out of propaneThis to a customer who always pays his bills on timeI was told they should only have to come to my home times a year and if they had to come more often that could result in an extra delivery chargeThis is what happens when big companies get bigger

Worst company everThey came and shut off my tank before a snow storm it was shut off for days..I didn't owe them moneyI bought a new house that had there tank on the property for the stove they never reached out to me about setting up an account they just came and shut the gas offI have young kids and they shut it off for daysWorst company ever

I found that this company has no problem over pricing propane and when it cam time to remove tanks for over pricing they tacked on service charges well over what would be charged example I payed a pound they picked up my tank with pounds and after two weeks of waiting found they will payback to me the rest service charge and its after the ten days that they charge extra for ROBBERS ALL

Call Haffner's ASAP!! BY FAR THE WORSE COMPANY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!! I inherited their service by purchasing my present home I don't have time to write a detailed review because I'm trying to get my neighbor's well repaired that they damaged
1) fuel contract with surcharges Ran out of propane times in first winter with themI was on a annual contract paid in advance Charged me emergency fees when they had to come out on weekend to fill it
2)Mike *** the manager is horrible humanExtremely unprofessional Could care less if a customer has an issue Doesn't return calls Once you get him and knows their tank is in the groundyou are treated like dirt and could careless that your pipes are going to freeze because of no heat
3) Continuous delivery issues and surcharges that you must fight to reverse
4) Called Haffner's to convertAMAZING to work with They called Ostermen to do a "tank swap" and Ostermen's refused Haffner's put in a temporary tank to resolve the conflict
5) year later Ostermen still refuses to do a tank swap
6) Shows up on my property without notice walk around my yard surveying how to removeweek later show up and remove the tank Ruined my lawn by driving across it with heavy equipment and digging up the lawn removing the tank
7) My neighbors contacts me that nightOsterman's broke the well lines going to their unitTemporary piping is going across my lawn now Cost my neighbor over $1,for the temporary fix It will cost between $3k to $5k to finish the repair
IT IS NOW WEEKS AND OSTERMAN HAS DONE NOTHING TO RESOLVE THEY WILL NOT EVEN RETURN MY CALLMY NEIGHBOR IS CALLING THEM DAILY WITH ONLY THE OPERATING RELAYING INFORMATION THAT THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT
TODAY I RECEIVE A BILL IN THE MAIL FROM OSTERMAN FOR $1,FOR TANK REMOVAL !! JUST AMAZINGAND THE MANAGER WON'T RETURN MY CALL AGAIN

Bad customer service, uncooperative staff, drivers with attitude, late deliveries, over-priced charges, They think they owe you once you sign a contract with them

I left this same review on Yelp but wanted to leave it here also because it needs to be known how terrible Osterman is. If Yelp allowed the possibility of giving 0 stars then I would. My wife deals with them over the phone and every time she has to call them she dreads it. They're incredibly rude over the phone and are not informed of their own business apparently. They put you on a "payment plan" to make your payments less that you get to spread out within a 10 month period. But to only have a different person tell you it doesn't work that way and then expect almost a GRAND up front to continue having the tanks filled... I work for a company that has phone reps and was one for almost two years, if we ever showed any sort of rude tone or spoke rudely back to the customers for absolutely no reason we'd basically be fired. Why doesn't Osterman follow this model? Because they don't give a crap about their customers, they just care about taking your money. Sure they're a business and like any business they want your money but heat is a necessity, treat the people who need it with some respect since you're gouging us with your ridiculous prices in the first place. Hire phone reps that are polite and helpful. Just stop being an all around sy company Osterman because there may only be 4 reviews on here (5 now with mine) But clearly you're terrible and you've made a bad impression on me, these 4 other people and I'm sure many MANY others who just aren't willing to go out of their way and write how terrible you are. Fix your business model or just go away.

Considering using Osterman Propane? WALK AWAY!!!
If you are considering Osterman Propane to heat your house, walk away and find someone else! If they are going to treat you as a customer as they have been treating me they will:
• Lie to you
• Take advantage of you
• Damage your property
I ended up as a customer with this company when I bought a new house in 2012. I was told there was a 500 gallon tank underground, and naïve as I was I assumed I had bought that too. Half a year later I learned that Osterman Propane had placed the tank there, but not turned over the ownership. That left me with them as the only allowable supplier for propane. Of course they exploit that advantage to charge a dollar more per gallon than the average price of propane in Massachusetts, not even a dollar more than the cheapest, but a dollar more than the average price!
When I ordered gas, they sent a contract, which I refused to sign as it stated that if I didn't use enough of their product, they would fine me $180 a year.
I have tried to contact them several times to buy the tank from them, but I always ended up in an infinite wait for the manager to come to the phone.
Last year they billed me for not using 500 gallons in a year. I didn't wanted to deal with their collection agent, so I paid, and sent them a similar bill for occupying space on my property. They then called and told me I was one of the houses in my neighborhood that used the least amount of gas, and that unlike everybody else, according to them, didn't had a gas stove, or a gat water heater. They flat out lied to me! I did some checking, and no one around here has a gas water heater, and only about a third has gas stove! Also, with the amount of gas I used in a normal winter, I would use less than 500 gal of gas in 9 winters out of 10. No, they didn't overestimate my gas usage! No one gets it THAT wrong! They just want to collect!
So I told them to pick up their tank within a reasonable time. A month should do it. After that they would have to pay rent for using my land. They called when the month was almost up, and gave me the same lies about why they felt I should had bought more of their gas.
Of course they didn't pick up their tank within the deadline, so I have sent them invoice after invoice without any reaction. Finally after 5 months they finally arrived to pick it up. It was half full with gas, so I had them sign a piece of paper stating the content of the tank and that they should pay me the average price of propane in the state of Massachusetts of that week. Of course that one had to be routed through their office.
They had destroyed my lawn there the tank was buried, as they filled up the hole with sand, in which nothing can grow. Even the landscaper who did the job agreed that the job was only half done.
Have I got my money for their stupid $180 fine back? Have they paid me for the damage to my property that I had to fix afterward? Have they paid for using my land without my consent for 5 months? No they haven't!
Have they paid for the gas that was in the tank when they picked it up? No they haven't! I think there is a word for taken something that doesn't belong to you!
In short; if you consider entering a customer relationship with this company, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere!

My review is specific to the Plainfield Office for Osterman Propane.

There are two women in the office where I have done business over the past 10 years. It is in the last two years that I find two women to be utterly unsympathtic and completely uncaring toward any issues I may have had with this office. These women are condescending in their attitude toward me. They are curt in their manner and very rude as they interrupt and talk over me as well. They immediately tried to bully me and place me on the deffensive. They are most unpleasant in their phone manners, if they have any phone ettiquite at all.

It's like having to deal with a mean and nasty old lady who has no time for you, and your concerns, because she is so wrapped up in her own world, you couldn't possibly mean a thing to her. You will be a pain in her rump in a day where she already has too many problems to begin with anyway. Or, like dealing with a woman who temper is so short, it must be that her hormones are raging and you just happen to be in the way on that particular day.

I have been in business over 30 years and deal with customers every day. If I treated my customers like these two women treat me over the phone, I would have been out of business 29 years ago.

I would advise NOT to use them, because if you have a problems, you will have to deal with these two women, and it will not likely be a very pleasant experience.
