We supplied this Customer a Proposal to complete some bathroom work started by another contractor and not completed The work included tile grout, install tile in a niche, ceiling repairs, painting, trim work, install pull down trays on the vanity, install a large vanity mirror, replace bath exhaust fans, and install a barn doorBarn Door Our contract specified the installation of a barn door: "Install Customer supplied barn door on opening to the bathroomThere is possible an issue with the baseboard in the bedroom at the opening to the bathroomWe will not be able to determine the repairs needed until the barn door is installedIf we have to modify the baseboard, there will be an additional cost." There are several problems with the Customer's request that we re-install the barn door "properly"- We provided the Proposal to the Customer and nothing was specified about a unique installation of the barn door- The barn door was supplied by the Customer and they are responsible for the design that included the barn door A barn door is offset from the wall and there is by design a gap between the wall and the door A barn door is not a good choice for a bathroom where privacy is of concern- We asked the Customer on multiple occasions to be on the job site while we were there doing the work They were not available when the work was being done- The barn door was installed according to the manufacturer's instructions- The wall where the barn door closes is not plumb and this exacerbates the gap because of this This out of plumb wall was done by the previous contractor We offered a solution to this and it was turned down- They approved and accepted the work when we were done and paid us in full- They asked us to come back and re-work the grout to take care of insufficient grout installed by the previous contractor, and install an alternative pull down drawer tray I spoke with the Customer and reviewed this rework and there was no mention of the barn door being a problem at that time We did this additional work at no charge to the Customer- The barn door was not an issue until the Customer noticed the barn door gap as they started using the bathroom and now think it is an installation problemVanity Mirror Our contract specified the installation of the mirror: "The vanity light box has to be moved up at least 1/inch so the vanity mirror will fit between the vanity backsplash and the light fixture." This is exactly what was doneThere are issues with the Customer's request about refunding money for the mirror installation: - There was no specification on where the Customer wanted the mirror mounted Heavy mirrors are difficult to mount off the vanity backsplash because the built in mountings on the mirror were intended to mount to studs Because of the arbitrary spacing of studs it is not always possible to install the supports into studs When a mirror is mounted in drywall, the weight has to be held up by the vanity backsplash This is an industry standard heavy mirror installation method- The Customer declined our requests to be on site while we performed the work- The work was approved and we were paid in full- Nothing was said about the mirror installation when we made the trip to do the re-work- The mirror was not an issue until they later decided that they didn't like the look and now want it done differentlySummary We fulfilled our contract; the Customer approved the work, and paid us in full It is not appropriate to come back weeks later and decide because of their design shortcomings to ask us to do additional work at no charge or refund their money We will not do any further re-work and will not refund any money

Revdex.com: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted] , and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below [To assist us in bringing this matter to a close, we would like to know your view on the matter.] Regards, [redacted] The contractor needs to come back out and install the barn door properly!! Our main concern is this barn door installation, which was completely installed incorrectly! We addressed that barn door immediately and his workers danced around it! The owner, Dan, was never around and was even out of town, so he never even saw the job, nor was he there for the job! His workers knew they did not properly complete the grout job, which they did come out and complete, however they did not even clean up after that! And his quote includes clean up etcWe weren't going to be petty with all the other stuff, but if he wants to when can too! We want them to place the barn door up correctly, which entails them to move the door down to the left, where it was supposed to be to begin withAs far as the mirror goes, we took his word that they moved up the light, which he charged me for, until we measured and it is in the exact same spot, so he did not! Again, our main concern is getting our door properly installed, so we can utilize our master bathroom, and have some privacy! That's just shady work, and his work is guaranteed and this barn door needs to be re-installed the correct way or he can pay the ***'s installers to come out and install it properly, the way they should have done to begin with!!!

If you have a large number of projects, be aware this company has a very convoluted and clunky bid processThey kept me in limbo for two weeks, and communication was virtually non-existent through out The material on one of the larger projects was changed without discussion Our initial meeting with them for a long list of smaller items as well as a as a couple of much larger, more expensive items took place on a MondayThe meeting went well, and I looked forward to working with them on this project, as well as a bath and kitchen remodel in the futureThe estimator was very congenial, had good ideas and the back and forth was encouraging The proposal was to be sent to me that Friday When I didn't receive it over the weekend, I called on Monday, spoke to the estimator, and was told it would be emailed to me by the end of the day, which did not happenOn Tuesday afternoon, I left word about a possible change, but never heard backOn Thursday, nearly a week after the promised deadline, I received the proposal This list included big ticket items (a patio cover and concrete paver patio) as well as removing outside awnings from the windowsWe asked for a separate line item for each of those three during our initial meetingThe estimator was provided a list of the projects at that time Instead, everything was lumped together for a 13K bid, with the patio material changed from what we'd requested and discussed at length with the estimator When I called that same day to ask for the individual pricing, I was told the estimator was out of the office until the following MondayThere was no one who could answer my questionThat's when the proposal process was described to me(It actually makes sense, and if communication is good, it wouldn't be an issue.) Long story short, I got bids for the job from other companies during the time I was waiting for the initial proposal, and decided after time dragged on to go elsewhere

exhaust fans, and install a barn door. Barn Door Our contract specified the installation of a barn door: "Install Customer supplied barn door on opening to the bathroom. If we have to modify the baseboard, there will be an additional cost." There are several problems with the Customer's request that we re-install the barn door "properly". - We provided the Proposal to the Customer and nothing was specified about a unique installation of the barn door. - The barn door was supplied by the Customer and they are responsible for the design that included the barn door.  A barn door is offset from the wall and there is by design a gap between the wall and the door.  A barn door is not a good choice for a bathroom where privacy is of concern. - We asked the Customer on multiple occasions to be on the job site while we were there doing the work.  They were not available when the work was being done. - The barn door was installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. - The wall where the barn door closes is not plumb and this exacerbates the gap because of this.  This out of plumb wall was done by the previous contractor.  We offered a solution to this and it was turned down. - They approved and accepted the work when we were done and paid us in full. - They asked us to come back and re-work the grout to take care of insufficient grout installed by the previous contractor, and install an alternative pull down drawer tray.  I spoke with the Customer and reviewed this rework and there was no mention of the barn door being a problem at that time.  We did this additional work at no charge to the Customer. - The barn door was not an issue until the Customer noticed the barn door gap as they started using the bathroom and now think it is an installation problem. This is exactly what was done. There are issues with the Customer's request about refunding money for the mirror installation: - There was no specification on where the Customer wanted the mirror mounted.  Heavy mirrors are difficult to mount off the vanity backsplash because the built in mountings on the mirror were intended to mount to studs.  Because of the arbitrary spacing of studs it is not always possible to install the supports into studs.  When a mirror is mounted in drywall, the weight has to be held up by the vanity backsplash.  This is an industry standard heavy mirror installation method. - The Customer declined our requests to be on site while we performed the work. - The work was approved and we were paid in full. - Nothing was said about the mirror installation when we made the trip to do the re-work. - The mirror was not an issue until they later decided that they didn't like the look and now want it done differently. Summary We fulfilled our contract; the Customer approved the work, and paid us in full.  It is not appropriate to come back weeks later and decide because of their design shortcomings to ask us to do additional work at no charge or refund their money.  We will not do any further re-work and will not refund any money.

After two attempts at fixing a door, screens, and some wooden structures on a screened-in porch, House Medic Handyman Service almost got it right. Their workmanship is terrible. They left a door on the porch with a 1/4" gap in the top with no trim. They tried to re-use rotting wood to fix a section of the porch. When they returned for the second time to fix the gap in the door that they had hung, the worker did not even bring a miter box to cut the angles for the trim so he covered his mistake with caulking instead of doing the job right. This company is a joke. Their workmanship is the worst I've ever seen. I will never hire this company to do any work for me again.

Response:

We were hired to replace a door in a partially underground front porch. This front porch had water dripping from the ceiling in many locations and was a bigger concern than the door itself. However, the customer wanted a new door and was not concerned with the water leaks.

We removed a steel door that had rotten away from continuous moisture and replaced it with a solid wood door. Within a month, the wet moist area around the door caused peeling on the paint. We returned and repainted. Again, we were called out another month later because the door had starting swelling due to all the water.

Nothing can be done until the water issues are resolved. A full refund of $[redacted] dollars was returned to the customer.

Review: Last October we hired House Medic to clean gutters and reattach them with new straps where the harsh winters had taken a toll on them. Also, to install new flashing and fix guttering where it would no longer leak causing siding problems and leaking in the basement. Unfortunately, none of the work withstood any weather. We continued to have problems this winter with hidden leaking we where unaware of because flashing not being installed correctly. This we discovered, when we had a roofing guy come out to fix the slate roof and told us the straps were way too small for the guttering, the flashing was along the right concept but was not completed and sealed off properly causing leaking. This created a whole new problem to the already problem we had, having an older home. It took three days for these minor repairs to be done last years, when it could have been done in an afternoon. Clogged up our work schedules three days. The estimate was a bit high but I agreed to it, only to have to pay quite a bit more in the end. Now I am having to pay out for the same repairs all over plus additional costs less than a year later because of work done by someone who did not know how to do the job to begin with.Desired Settlement: I want a partial refund a the very least. If I had known the work was not correct sooner, I would have done something about it sooner. The cause of the problems were not obvious to us until a professional came out and pointed out the issues. We were going to let the straps on the gutters issue slide until we were told about the flashing job not being completed correctly and this had created an even bigger problem.
