*** stated in response to the complaint:I quoted $per hour per man hourThe consumer took it as"$per hour for all the men I had there"Which was not trueMy son was working just as hard as the other men up there and nothing I did was illegalAt this specific time, the Buffalo Area was in
a state of emergency, through the storm of Snovember, and what I was charging was less than what other companies were chargingI am sorry for any misunderstanding, and I appreciate his business

The Issues, with the roof at *** *** *** road in *** where existing to the original install of the roof. I was not the contractor who originally put the roof on. Also this issue had been tried to be repaired prior to HomeTeck doing any work on this portion of roofing. The
area of roofing ties into a wall of the house and then above that section there is a valley. *** has worked with me before and I have always had good report and integrity doing business with her. I explained to her that the wet plywood was by the wall and that my professional opionion was that the leak was occurring from the wall area. I told her we would replace the plywood and replace the shingles going to inches up the wall. We would then install ice shield up the wall and under the flashing. This work was completed by us. We did not change out the plywood we because the existing plywood was not rotted it was only wet. So, assumed we fixed the leak as we repaired the area where the plywood was damaged. However, *** says that I told her to fix her ceiling and to fix the repairs in the house, which is not the case, because if she would have asked me I would have told her not to fix anything inside until we know for sure the leak has stopped. Also, I do not warranty fixing other roofers mistakes and tying into other contractors problems. If *** would have asked me to tear off the entire section of roofing and install a new one, I would have then warrantied the work and fixed any damages it may have caused if there was an issue with my install. However, I do not warranty repair work because its nearly impossible to know for certain that you have fixed the issue. I can only use my most educated guess. In this case the leak was coming from above the wall in the valley area leaking under the shingles and coming in from the wall. I tell customers, water is like Satan, it finds the path of least resistance and comes in(meaning once water gets under the shingles it will find a place to come in under the decking, under the ice shield or felt and come in the home. With that said. *** also called me about the repair work not working. I told her that I felt bad and that It must be coming in from the valley. Which if I would have torn out the valley originally it would have cost additional money because it would have been additional work. I told her that I would repair the valley area, even though that was not in the original scope of the repair work I quoted her on or that she paid me for, however I told her I would repair the valley for free. Also, as I stated above we did not replace the plywood because it was only wet and not rotted, I had also knocked money off the original price at the time she paid me for the repair. *** had asked me to rush out and fix her valley as I stated I would do for no additional money so, that I would not hurt the integrity of my company or the integrity of my self. I told her we have a huge storm coming and that I had my employees trying to button up a large church roof and that my one crew would not be able to get over there. I then told her that my one employee that I have available to send there has been out with the flu and that I would get him over there as soon as he was back to work. The employee who is always reliable called in the entire week every morning barely able to talk. I told *** that I appologize but that I am trying to get over there and I cant. She was telling me that she had someone else willing to come fix the roof. I told her I understand. She then asked for her money back. Which I then said no because repair work is not warrantied and I did the service work that I had scoped to doReplacing the shingles and ice shield by the wall. She said with her husband on the phone, Hal will call you later and she and her husband hung up. I never heard back from them and I was willing to still fix there valley for free as soon as I could get there. The bottom line is that I did not tell them to fix the inside of there house and even if I did it still would not be HomeTeck's responsiblity, we again do not warranty other contractors roofs, and we do not warranty repair work, and neither does any other legitament contractor. *** wanted to save money by not tearing off the entire section of roofing and try to patch the roof in. I tried to accomidate my long time customer as I always had in the past and apparently my company is getting accused of issues that are not ours. I am glad she got her roof fixed and I am glad the problem area got pin pointed for her

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
We had a dispute with HomeTeck regarding a roof repair to our home that was done the last week of November, 2015. We ended up in small claims court and we were awarded a Judgment for $815. The Judgment was ultimately paid in September 2016. Regards,
[redacted]

I did install a brand new roof on their home in August of 2013.  This
couple was very hospitable and I enjoyed working for them.  I feel bad
that they have current and unresolved issues.  I will explain the reason
for these issues again as I have told them several times in the past...

and other
contractors and shingle reps have told them.  Their home is a very large
and unique home.  It has an octagon turret in the center going into 2
large sections of roofing with 4 valleys then into a wraparound porch with a
pitch change.  The issue is not that I couldn't install a proper roof, or
that the roof I installed went on a unique house.  I installed a nearly
perfect roof on a very difficult design of a home.  Their roof system has
the highest end ice shield on it.  It’s called [redacted] storm guard.  It
also has a synthetic Felt called [redacted] on it, manufactured by [redacted].
Their roof also has the highest end ridge vent on it called [redacted] snow country 2.
Here is where the
problem is.  Every roof needs outtake and intake ventilation.  The
intake comes in from the soffit and the out take comes out of the ridge
vent.  I put the maximum amount of out take ventilation on their home
using the ridge vent I mentioned above.  This roof is experiencing no
issues during rain at all.  It is only experiencing issues during the
winter and here is why.   The home has cathedral ceilings in the octagon
shape part of the house.  That section of roof has no way of bringing air
in or air out so you cannot cool the back of the roof deck from the soffit or
bring the cold air out.  The back of the roof deck needs to stay at the
same temperature that it is outside.  This stops the roof from having excess
heat buildup in the summer and cools the temperature off in the winter when
homes experience heat loss.  Because this roof cannot vent properly, the
heat penetrates the back of the roof deck and causes the snow to melt, becoming
water, which then runs into the gutter which is not a heated area and forms
what is called ice.  The ice then builds up in the gutter and has icicles
hanging from the gutters.  When the gutter have large amounts of ice in
them and more snow keeps melting, the water cannot exit the roof and ice backs
up the roof line further and further.  When the ice is over a heated area
it will freeze then thaw then freeze and thaw because it cannot exit off the
roof line due to the ice formed in the gutters.  This then will cause
leaks.  Even with the best shingle the best ice shield and the best roofer
who installed the roof system the roof will leak with enough
snow.    I have told the homeowners this on several occasions,
sent them emails with several links explaining in great detail the reason for their
leaks.  I have been to there house to tell them in person.  Every
time I’ve tried to explain it they seem to talk over me and will not listen to
reason.  The [redacted] rep for all of wny has been to their home with another
[redacted] master elite certified installer and both of them have told them the same
exact thing.  Roofs are designed to shed water not retain water.
When the ice forms at the edge of the roof and it does not allow water to pass
off their roof, it will freeze and thaw backing up under the shingles.
The ice shield will help prevent water from coming in but does not stop all ice
from backing up and coming in when its severe enough.  I also told them to
watch the news last winter and they would be able to see the emergency roofing
crews coming in with large machines called deicers and they stem heated the ice
off the gutters.  Their situation was not alone; there was close to 30,000
homes in wny with the same issue. In fact, people who understood the concept
that I explained called roofing companies in and paid them to remove the ice
from damaging their homes, so they did not have damaged drywall, damaged
insulation, damaged gutters on their home.  Also the homeowners on this property stated that it never
happened before and that was because the past 2 winters have been extremely
cold and when the temperature outside is below 0 it makes furnaces run more and
when a home suffers from heat loss it will cause more heat loss faster.
The home owner told me that it’s been that bad before.  I showed him the
records.  2 winters ago we had the coldest January in 45 yrs.; the entire
month was below freezing. Also last winter was the coldest and most amount of
snow we have ever had of 145 yrs. of record keeping.  If there was
something for me to fix I would fix it.  But I could literally tear off their
entire roof install a brand new one and the same exact thing would happen in the
same conditions because their issue is heat loss not improper
installation.  I also told them that if they put up heat cables it would
stop the heat from forming, but not stop their heat loss.  I told them it
would be a band aid if they did not want to have spray foam insulation
done.  I also gave them a number to a company who specializes in spray
foam and has a inferred gun to show them where they are losing heat.  They
said in the statement above that they don't have heat loss according to them. Then
why do they have ice? It is only due to heat loss.  If there was roofing
that I could fix or something I did wrong I would gladly fix it however there
isn't anything wrong with the roof.  I have diagnosed the issue, by my experience
being a [redacted] certified installer and their roof has been certified by [redacted] which
means it was inspected at the time of installation for the upgraded
warranty.  Their roof has been inspected after the current issues by a [redacted]
rep, and also by another reputable company who is a [redacted] certified master elite
contractor and only 1 of 3 in the area.  I am not sure what is not being
comprehended, but I hope in this I have made myself understood.
