I recently purchased a curio cabinet and a server from Hometown FurnitureIt was only after the delivery men had left that I noticed that the doors on both the cabinet and the server were warpedI called the store and that is when the nonsense began The man I talked to on the phone sounded so confused I thought I might be talking to an elderly relative of the owner who didn't know what was going onIn reality, it was the owner and I should have known that I was in trouble when he asked if I "could live with it" A few days later, I went in to the store to ensure that something would be done to rectify the problemThe owner wasn't there but the woman who was next in command seemed very reassuring - photocopying my bill of sale and saying that the boss usually took care of things later in the weekI waited patiently to hear from them but finally called to find out what was going onThis time I got the boss on the phone who assured me that he would order new doors from the factory in China Knowing that getting new doors would take some time, I waited several weeks but I finally went back to the store againAt this time, the boss told me that he phoned China and getting new doors was not possibleHe asked if he could give me a discountI declined because this furniture was unsatisfactory as is and would have zero resale valueHe also gave me a song and dance about getting his "wood man" to fix them as he felt that the doors just needed adjustingI disagreed stating that, in my opinion, the wood used to make the doors was too green when they were made and that is why they warpedI asked him why, after he supposedly made the call to China, he didn't immediately phone me to let me know new doors weren't happening and could he offer me a discount or fix the doorsI also discovered that the furniture had been made in Vietnam so the fact that he had "called China" did nothing for his credibility By this time my patience and trust were completely gone and when I said that any repairs would have to be done to MY satisfaction, he finally told me that he would take the furniture backHowever just as I was reaching the front door, he asked me again if I would take a discount! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone! A couple of days later I asked my son to accompany me to the store - hoping that the mind games and bafflegab would endThe boss assured me that I would get a refund but not until the furniture was picked up and I would have to arrange that with the woman who is second in command to arrange that I finally got my refund but they dinged me $for delivering and then picking up their DEFECTIVE furniture! I recently purchased a curio cabinet and a server from Hometown Furniture. It was only after the delivery men had left that I noticed that the doors on both the cabinet and the server were warped. I called the store and that is when the nonsense began.
The man I talked to on the phone sounded so confused I thought I might be talking to an elderly relative of the owner who didn't know what was going on. In reality, it was the owner and I should have known that I was in trouble when he asked if I "could live with it".
A few days later, I went in to the store to ensure that something would be done to rectify the problem. The owner wasn't there but the woman who was next in command seemed very reassuring - photocopying my bill of sale and saying that the boss usually took care of things later in the week. I waited patiently to hear from them but finally called to find out what was going on. This time I got the boss on the phone who assured me that he would order new doors from the factory in China.
Knowing that getting new doors would take some time, I waited several weeks but I finally went back to the store again. At this time, the boss told me that he phoned China and getting new doors was not possible. He asked if he could give me a discount. I declined because this furniture was unsatisfactory as is and would have zero resale value. He also gave me a song and dance about getting his "wood man" to fix them as he felt that the doors just needed adjusting. I disagreed stating that, in my opinion, the wood used to make the doors was too green when they were made and that is why they warped. I asked him why, after he supposedly made the call to China, he didn't immediately phone me to let me know new doors weren't happening and could he offer me a discount or fix the doors. I also discovered that the furniture had been made in Vietnam so the fact that he had "called China" did nothing for his credibility.
By this time my patience and trust were completely gone and when I said that any repairs would have to be done to MY satisfaction, he finally told me that he would take the furniture back. However just as I was reaching the front door, he asked me again if I would take a discount! I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone!
A couple of days later I asked my son to accompany me to the store - hoping that the mind games and bafflegab would end. The boss assured me that I would get a refund but not until the furniture was picked up and I would have to arrange that with the woman who is second in command to arrange that.
I finally got my refund but they dinged me $200 for delivering and then picking up their DEFECTIVE furniture!
This whole deal could have been resolved in a week or two but they dragged their feet for weeks hoping, I am sure, that I would eventually give up and "live with it".
Will I ever darken their doorstep again? Maybe. When pigs fly.
