Honda Of Casper Reviews (4)

I had a terrible experience with***, the sales managerI would not recommend anybody I know to purchase a vehicle at this dealership

In beginning our search for a vehicle for my college student, we wanted to inquire about the amount of trade we would get for a Honda Civic. We chose to stop at Honda of Casper first as the car was a Honda and another family member had a positive experience at this business. We arrived at 10:20 in the morning and intended to quickly check before going to scheduled appointments and to also inquire about vehicles they may have had in the $5,000-$6,000 range. We were greeted by a very young woman who immediately took us to her manager. She was instructed to show us other Civics on the lot. She showed us two, both were brand new and we emphatically expressed that they were out of our price range and did not want to go new. We were taken back to her manager and he told us we could get $3,000 for our trade (an "offer" they were running) and we again expressed our need for a car in the aforementioned price range. After much debate and his deciding he could get us a car in the $200 price range, he showed us two used cars. One would not start when we were given the keys and the other my daughter really liked. We asked the price of the car and he insisted we test drive it. Upon return, we needed to go to a medical appointment and the manager insisted the saleswoman go with us (I felt this was breaching our confidentiality and felt invasive....we told them we could take our car). The saleswoman had kept in contact with the manager and we were told to take the saleswoman to our home to get the title for the trade. We again inquired about the price of the car over the phone through the sales girl and asked exactly what the trade-in amount would be as the manager had said that during our appointment he would have the car inspected and could possibly get us $3,500. We were given no answer to either question and were told to meet back at the business. We were at the dealership until 6:30 pm (past closing time of 6 pm)...missing three other appointments and being told to wait "just 30 more minutes" and our questions would be answered. Still with no question to the amount of the vehicle, the manager had pressed for lending and we were denied at five banks...strange as I had excellent credit and more than enough resources and income. The manager had changed the amount of money down in addition to the trade, for which we stated was not in the agreement. Having been at the dealership so long and being unable to leave, not being able to discuss anything in private with my daughter during the entire day, and not being allowed to contact our bank personally were red flags about the deal. The total cost of the car did not get disclosed until we were made to agree to the deal verbally and the contract drawn up. Soon after the purchase, we contacted our bank to review the purchase and discovered that the car actually booked at $6,100 less than the price sold...a situation that is likely if the trade has money owed on it....ours was paid off and was a clean trade. Our banker printed off the NADA and told us that the loans were denied because of the inflation of price on the sale and that it would be five years before the payments would be near the value of the car....the loan was set at 75 months in the sale. In short, we paid enough to purchase THREE cars for the one at our original price range. We took the paperwork from the bank and took an additional witness to discuss with the General Manager. When going to the business, we asked three times to speak to the General Manager and were once again with the sales manager who made the sale. After a long deliberation, he insisted they didn't make any money on the sale and that our trade wasn't worth the amount given (true), that there are many unseen costs in selling cars and that we only purchased the car for $3,000 above the book price and that it was "worth it". During the discussion, once again the money figures became askew and our questions not directly answered. We paid over $4,000 above NADA and gave them a car in the final deal. Because of the inflated price of the car, our bank will not purchase the loan. We are happy with the car itself, but feel that we were extremely pressured into a shady purchase. Our feeling of the transaction is "Buyer Beware!"
Also worthy of note is that the purchase made by a relative made last year had gone very differently as they allowed him to drive the car without a salesperson, leave the business for appointments (with the car!), offered perks with the sale such as window tinting, full tank of gas, and oil changes for certain amount of time with some other incentives. Our experience was completely different, much to our disappointment. No other incentives were given in the sale of our vehicle and the overall feeling of the manner in which the sale took place is not good.
