Review: I purchased a new designer suit with jacket from a high end department store. The department manager personally assisted me and agreed the suit was an excellent fit except for the length of the sleeves. He recommend I take it to a tailor to have the sleeves altered. I immediately took it to Hong Kong Custom Tailors in Richmond, VA to have the sleeves altered. I discussed having the sleeves shortened and the sleeves only. When I returned to pick up the suit, the jacket did not fit. I could barely button the jacket and it felt way too small. I asked what happened to my jacket and the owner explained I had it taken in a bit too. I explained it didn't ask for it to be taken in and he said he did it anyway because he thought I would like the fit, but he can now see it was wrong. He never even marked the fit for alterations other than the sleeve, so I was not sure why he would attempt to do something I didn't ask for or want. I explained it was already a perfect fit and it was now unwearable. He then asked me to leave it and he will fix it. When I returned several days later the jacket would button but was a horrible fit. There was bunching of material in the back where the seam was that they altered, the front had other issues and the buttons were out of align. Obvious problems caused by altering a jacket twice, that should not have been altered. I said it was unexceptionable and a perfectly good jacket was ruined. He then explained how he gave me a deal by only charging me for the sleeves not the other alterations. I explained it was not a deal because that's all I asked to be done. He then started yelling at me as if it was my fault. He was telling me I complain too much while admitting I did not ask for the adjustments. He then told me he would charge me to make any more corrections and then that I should go buy another jacket and bring it to him. I explained he ruined my jacket. He refused to refund me or fix his mistakes. He admitted being wrong but would not properly fix his mistake.Desired Settlement: The suit is a 3 piece pin stripped suit purchased from [redacted]. It is not possible to return the jacket and since it is part of a set, no way to replace the jacket. However, the owner of Hong Kong Custom Tailors is the one who is personally responsible for ruining the jacket. I expect a jacket from his inventory, he covers the cost for another tailor to make the repairs, or he inquires [redacted] for a replacement jacket.

Review: On Wednesday, October 23, 2013 I went into Hong Kong Tailors with a leather blazer. I explained to [redacted] that I needed the garment altered for an event in two weeks. He assured me that it would be ready within one week. I told him that I traveled more than an hour to get this piece altered professionally. He was confident that it would be no problem to get it done, but would cost $110. On Saturday, November 2, 2013 I traveled down to pick up the blazer and expressed my dissatisfaction with the alterations. He explained that it was difficult because it was leather. I told him that I would not accept that as an excuse because he assured me that the requested alterations were feasible. I proceeded to tell him that the sleeves were not as short as I requested. He told me that he would give a $15 discount. Once I got home and tried on the jacket in a full length mirror, I called [redacted] and expressed my displeasure. He responded "it was a lot of work because it looked like someone else's jacket." I told him that I would not come back to Hong Kong because of this incident. He said, "I won't allow you back in my store" and hung up. This is terrible customer service and they have ruined a $600 jacketDesired Settlement: I would like my $95 refunded

Response:

Dear [redacted]

Firstly I like to point out the gentlemen [redacted] had brought in an old leather jacket, which he mentioned belong to his family, which was 2 sizes bigger and longer sleeves, [redacted] requested us to alter the jacket to fit his size, However I clearly explained that I can only alter it down so much and take in the sleeves by 2 inch.

[redacted] suggested doing our best to take in as much as long he’s able to wear it. The price was agreed upon at $110.00 and it would require 2 weeks.

When [redacted] came in after 2 weeks without his receipt he picked up his jacket and was fine but demanded that he was overcharged, I’d explained to him there was 10 hours work put into his jacket but I complied and gave him a [redacted] discount to rounded at $95.

[redacted] agreed and took his jacket and then after few hours he called and again demanded that he was overcharged and did not like the work on it and wanted a refund.

I’m willing to take the jacket and alter it as much but at his risk with no further charge.

Thank you,

Best Regards
