This is to address the complaint that was filed with the Revdex.com regarding work that was done by Honolulu Home Improvement (Complaint Case # [redacted]). To answer the complaint, the complainant had two (2) side by side units that we did the same type flooring job. On the first...

unit completed, upon delivery of the flooring materials, we explained in detail to the complainant (Mr. [redacted]) about the importance of acclimating the flooring material in the unit. That the boxes must stand open for a period of time so that the wood material would get adjusted to the humidity in the unit where it will be installed, that if the wood material did acclimate properly, it could cause the floor to buckle and warp. We were able to have Mr. [redacted] sign an addendum, acknowledging that he understood what the importance of acclimating the flooring before installation. For that job, we were given enough time to acclimate because the first unit was empty, so it allowed us to open the boxes and line them around the room as we continue the other work. For the second unit (as aforementioned in the complaint), we picked up the wood material and delivered them to the unit. We explained to the complainant again about the acclimation process, but as it was, there was no room in the unit because was furniture and other materials in the unit. There was also a push to complete the job as soon as possible so that the complainant can immediately put the unit on the market. Honolulu Home Improvement will share responsibility for the flooring problem and will agree to pay half the cost for the correction of the floor. Mr. [redacted] had agreed on a payment of $700.00. Unfortunately work became slow, we were not able to make the payment. Added to that, there was tension was developed between me and the [redacted]’s, my personality have gotten the best of me and was not able to resolve the issue. I would wish to resolve this matter with the Mr. and Mrs. [redacted], with my utmost apologies and aloha. I hope that Revdex.com will help me in this matter.

The renovation of our first unit started in December 2012. We did not have the same type of flooring for this unit; the kitchen floor was tiled and the remaining carpeted. This unit was sold in early March 2013.
Mr. [redacted] has no knowledge of this signed addendum for the first unit and requests a copy from Mr. [redacted] for his reference.
As for the second unit, we were completely moved out by the time Mr. [redacted] started his job. His explanation of "push to complete the job as soon as possible" is irrelevant, because he should be accountable to deliver in a satisfactory manner; after all, we paid in close to $20, 000 (IN CASH) for the entire renovation. It also states on his proposal "All work is to be completed in a workman like manner" or, is this incorrect? Ethically, shouldn't he at least, put some effort in correcting the problem if the customer is not pleased?
Mr. [redacted] has not agreed on any payment. Mr. [redacted] acknowledged that Mr. [redacted] hires another contractor, as Mr. [redacted] neglected to resolve the flooring issue when Mr. [redacted] first addressed. Not only neglecting to resolve the flooring, but in general, Mr. [redacted] neither responded nor was concerned about it. He was not attentive at all.
It cost us $770.00 to repair the flooring issue therefore; we ask to be compensated at $800.00. This amount should be fair, considering the stress we went through (many people who showed interest in the unit but had complaints and concerns regarding the floor). We paid him close to $20,000 for the entire renovation, of which he quoted $2,518.50 based on laminate flooring. He did not provide us with a revised proposal, but it must have been more due to wooden flooring. These amounts are significant to us.
Last, his reasoning of "work became slow, we were not able to make the payment" is irrelevant, because we worked hard to pay Mr. [redacted]. As mentioned in the above, $20,000 (IN CASH) is significant to us.

I understand that the [redacted]s are wanting to settle for $800.00 for their cost. We are amenable to that.We are able to make a first payment of $400.00 around the 15th of October. Please let me know how to proceed with the payment.Thank you for your assistance.
