Hood's Automotive & Towing Reviews (2)

On April 2, 2018 at 8:45 am we were contacted by the [redacted] to tow a vehicle that had been involved in a car accident.  Upon arrival, [redacted] was sitting between the entrance from [redacted].  The vehicle was...

straddling the two concrete surfaces with two wheels on [redacted] and two wheels on the entrance ramp.  The vehicle had a flat right front tire.  Our driver assisted [redacted] in getting her car seat out of the back of her vehicle and set the car seat in the police car while she and her child were waiting for her ride to get there.  [redacted] then left with her ride and her child.  The vehicle had to be winched off the divider since the tires were straddling the grass area.  The vehicle had to be winched because of the position of the vehicle and the curb was obstructing our ability to get the "L" arms for wheel lift under the tires.  As a result, the vehicle had to be winched off the median.  The vehicle was then towed to our facility.[redacted] contacted us and was informed of the fees including the winch charge ($194.00 plus $40 per day storage).  In a good faith effort, we waived the $50 winch charge.  [redacted] was told that storage on the vehicle was $40 per day for each calendar day the vehicle was here.  When [redacted] asked about damage to her vehicle, I told her I had not personally seen the vehicle, but it appeared from my drivers sheet that there was damage to the right front of the vehicle and the left rear of the vehicle.   [redacted] did not come in for 3 additional days to pick up her vehicle.  At that time, we provided a jack and 4-way so she could change her tire at no additional charge. [redacted] vehicle had to be towed because of the flat tire and she had left the scene of the accident.  The police would not allow her car to stay in its location due to obstructing traffic.  There is no shoulder on [redacted] where the front of her vehicle was sitting and her rear of the car was hanging on the entrance ramp obstructing the ramp.  Concerning [redacted] battery, we did not open the hood of her vehicle until one of my drivers assisted her in the lot when she asked us to open her hood so she could check the radiator.  That was the only time we opened the hood of the vehicle.  We noted the hold down was broken and the battery was laying on its side.  We determined that was because of the accident.  At no other time did we open the hood of the vehicle.[redacted] picked up her vehicle on 04/06/18 incurring the $144 tow fee ($50 winch charge waived) and 4 days of storage at $40 per day ($160) (one day of storage was waived as the vehicle was at our facility for 5 calendar days) for a total of $304.00.  [redacted] could have picked up her vehicle on 4/2/18 where her total bill would have been $184 but she did not.  Our charges are fair and valid and provided [redacted] with several discounts through the process.   Attached are copies of the Tow Ticket along with a picture of the area of the accident.

Initial Business Response /* (1000, 7, 2014/09/08) */
We were contacted by the Bridgeton Police Department on 8/18/14 at 6:16 pm to tow a 1998 Ford Contour from XXXXX [redacted] Road. We only towed this vehicle at the request of the Bridgeton Police Department. There is no current...

business at this location as the business is currently closed (previously Hughes Auto Body). When the police department contacts us to tow a vehicle, we must tow the vehicle at that time. We are not affiliated with any police department and have no responsibility for what the police officer told Mr. [redacted].
When we arrived to tow the vehicle, the vehicle was running, windows were down and the ignition switch was messed up so both the police and our tow driver were unable to turn off the vehicle at the location. As a result, the police had us tow the car as it could not be secured where it was at a closed business.
Our standard police towing fees are $85 for the hook-up, $4 fuel charge and $30 storage per calendar day for any part of the day. We do not charge for storage by the hour. Vehicles can be picked up during our normal business hours from 8am to 6pm Monday thru Friday and 8am to 3pm on Saturdays. Mr. [redacted] was charged $89 for the tow and $60 for two days storage (8/18 and 8/19) for a total of $149. Mr. [redacted] could have gotten the police auto release from Bridgeton Police on the night of 8/18 and retrieved his vehicle at 8am on 8/19 and not missed a day of work. He did not secure the auto release until 3:10 pm on 8/19 and did not pick up the vehicle until after 4 pm on 8/19.
All charges for Mr. [redacted]'s tow are valid. If he has towing coverage on his auto policy, he may be able to be reimbursed these tow fees. He may want to contact his insurance company.
