Hooters of Honolulu, Inc. Reviews (1)

I am writing about an incident that occurred on August 8, 2009 where my fiance and I were publicly ridiculed, humiliated, profiled, discriminated against, and thrown out of the Hooters restaurant. Thinking back on what transpired the previous day, I am still confused about the reason why we were singled out and treated so inhumanly. I could not sleep. I tossed and turned all night. I, personally, have not been treated like this before. I was born and raised here in Hawaii and I have never experienced discrimination. I thought that discrimination was a mainland phenomenon or something that you see on television, that is until yesterday. My fiance and I are of Filipino decent. We have a youthful, dark skinned appearance and we believe that we were profiled and discriminated against for those reasons, as a majority of the Hooter patrons seemed to be Caucasian. It seemed like [redacted], the assistant manager, profiled us as what he viewed as a “type” of people that would be unable to afford to sit at one of his tables, and our “type” was removed as a result. We were there eating just like all the other customers around, but they were not given the same treatment. Even thinking back to how [redacted] referred to my fiance and I. He used the phrase “you people” when referring to us. The end result was that [redacted] removed the “wrong people” off of his table and gave it to what he deemed was the “right people”, which happened to be a Caucasian couple. We were and continue to be distraught by the experience that we had at Hooters. My fiance was inconsolable for hours, crying uncontrollably at times. We sincerely believe that our civil liberties were violated that day. This is a case of consumer discrimination and, unfortunately, there is not much awareness of these occurrences. Similar cases to mine are probably more common than one would imagine. I wish I could give more detaiIs of our experience, but I am limited to the amount of words I can put into this review. I am currently trying my best to bring awareness to this matter and hopefully it will lead to making sure that no one fall prey to what my fiance and I were subjected to at Hooters.
