offering a discounted rate for the out-of-network services on his second visit to our office. There is no code that we could have included on our claims that would have allowed the patient's claims to be paid at a better rate by his insurance. We were simply out of network with his plan. With full knowledge of this, the patient chose to continue with his care at our office for many months. No amount has been added to the patient's bills. He has only been billed for the services that were not paid by his insurance. We do not add interest or any other fees to past due balances. Unfortunately, despite repeated offers, the patient has refused to make any sort of payment arrangement. Finally, his unpaid bills were sent to a collections agency. The patient was warned about this months in advance and made no effort to arrange a payment plan with our office to pay his past due balances. At this point, the patient needs to reach out to the collections agency that contacted him to arrange settlement and to find out what, if any, impact this may have on his credit rating.
