Review: Back in May, my husband and I went for Life Insurance (we are both teachers). After jumping through all the insane insurance hoops, we finally THOUGHT we had coverage that was being taken out of our paychecks. Six months later, we get a letter from Horace Mann saying we owe them almost $300. We were NEVER contacted by our agent about this. What ended up happening was that Horace Mann/Teri G[redacted] never made sure the paper work went to our payroll lady at the board office and then put the ENTIRE blame on my BOE. Ultimately, after numerous phone calls, I was the one that got Horace Mann to send to the paperwork to my payroll (even though they said they sent it but NEVER did). At the end of the day, my husband and I are teachers that did not budget for this added expense because we were told Horace Mann will take care of everything. We ended up having to foot the bill and the only thing Horace Mann did for us was to cut the bill in half. IN HALF?!! We except students to follow through with their work but adults can't even do their jobs? I feel taken advantage of, manipulated, and bullied by this company. I have been a loyal Horace Mann customer since 2001 and appalled by the way this company has treated us. I made numerous phone calls trying to explain the situation but at the end of the day, Horace Mann does not care how they get their money, as long as they get it. They didn't care that this took money out of my pocket that was for MY FAMILY, for food, living expenses, or what have you. I have exhausted every connection I could make and no one will help from Horace Mann. We even asked if we could start the policy over and start it now since they made a mistake - NO, they wouldn't allow it. We asked to cancel the policy and were we would owe more money. At the end of the day, I got this policy to protect my daughter in the event something would happen to myself and husband and now its turned into a War of Words with my family losing.Desired Settlement: I believe that Horace Mann should restart the policy, refunding us our payment, or allow us to cancel without penalty since it was their fault that the paperwork was never submitted to my BOE. They completely took advantage of the situation and continue to put blame on my BOE when it was them! In my opinion, they didn't do a follow up, they didn't take care of their customers, and THEY get off scott free, when I'm the one footing the bill.
