Horizon Eye Specialists & Lasik Center Reviews (4)

I would not recommend this practice to anyone who desires or needs to be aware of the medical costs or out of pocket expenses. I found them to be very covert and not answer questions directly and then charge you afterwards. I asked the office before my first appointment regarding insurance coverage and copays, yet when I went in they did not ask for any of the above. Upon my third visit, they then wanted 100's of dollars in copays. When I questioned this practice , the billing office said to me "If you do not like it , go to another Dr." . When I went to the practice manager and requested my medical records to go elsewhere, I was never informed of a fee to get MY records. The email they sent me which required a reply , was sent from address that does not accept incoming email. They also did not include a phone number to call them if there was a problem. All in all ,very unprofessional , lacks any compassion and clearly are not forthright and honest. I do not recommend , STAY AWAY!!!!!

I was referred by my Optometrists to see [redacted]. [redacted], M.D to see if I would be a good candidate for laser surgery. When I got there it was like a zoo. First, the receptionist did could find my appointment after I had called and confirmed my appointment that morning. Second, after I was take for all the eye testing I finally meet with Dr. [redacted], and I was throw for a loop when he said I had cataracts and that they had to be removed before my surgery could be done. THIS TOTALLY threw me for a loop, especially when I had just seen my eye doctor and there was no mention of cataracts. I left Dr. [redacted] office and called immediately my doctor and advise her of his findings. I made an appointment the following day with my doctor and she re-exam me and found no cataracts. And yet Dr. [redacted] finance officer kept calling me on setting my appointment for my surgery especially when she new I was paying cash! I will NEVER, NEVER refer anyone to that office again.

I went through a vision insurance company ([redacted]) to inquire about having PRK vision surgery completed. When the initial call was made to the Horizon Eye Specialist by both myself and the insurance company, Horizon Eye Specialist was made aware of this being my second time having vision surgery (which was why I was having the PRK treatment instead of Lasik). The insurance price was confirmed by Horizon Eye Specialist (scheduling/billing department) directly to [redacted], but after the first appointment the Horizon Eye Specialist stated that they were going to add $250.00 to the agreed upon quoted price. I then spoke with a representative from [redacted] ([redacted] and [redacted]) after the first appointment who confirmed that my price should be $1350, to go ahead and complete the second appointment, and that [redacted] would address the issue with Horizon Eye Specialist directly if I wanted to have the procedure. At the second appointment I was told that Horizon would "wave the initial $250.00 (that I was never asked to pay), but that an additional $250.00 would be added to the final bill". When I stated that it appeared that we were at the same price as $1350, the representative from Horizon Eye Specialist just kept repeating the statement about waiving the initial $250.00 and adding the $250.00 to the final price. I eventually stated that I was confused and asked what the total out of pocket cost would be to me. At this point he stated $1600.00 per eye and that it didn't matter what the insurance company quoted me. When I called the [redacted] (9-11-13) they stated that Horizon Eye was unwilling to abide by the agreed upon price and that I would need to go elsewhere if I was unwilling to pay the higher price of $1600.00. I called today and spoke with [redacted] (scheduling manager at Horizon Eye Specialist) in an attempt to rectify this situation. She agreed that I was originally provided a quote of $1350 per eye by her office, but that the price was incorrect due to this procedure being a correction from a previous surgery. I informed her that when Horizon Eye Specialist was originally contacted and provided the quoted price they were aware of this information as they had stated that I would need to pay a $250.00 fee upfront at the time of my appointment (which is usually free for first time patients), but that $250 would be applied to the quoted surgery price of $1350.00 if I were to have the procedure. [redacted] again stated that I was misquoted for the procedure and she agreed to check the pricing list, which confirmed that the original quoted price ($1350.00) was accurate as stated on the document that had been provided to me. The insurance company is also filing a notice with the company stating that they have violated their agreed upon price for the procedure. The insurance company has the same documentation that I am enclosing in this compliant and I have written documentation regarding what the original fee ($1350.00) was for the procedure that I am having completed. I explained to the staff at Horizon that had I been quoted the price of $1600.00 originally I probably would have had the procedure completed, but now it is the principle behind the issue. I do not feel it is ethical to not stand by a quoted price (especially when it was an established agreed upon insurance quote). The doctor seemed to be very good and I would have been very comfortable having him complete the procedure, but unfortunately every great doctor has to have good support staff.

I would not recommend this practice to anyone who desires or needs to be aware of the medical costs or out of pocket expenses. I found them to be very covert and not answer questions directly and then charge you afterwards.
