Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2014/02/25) */
The customer brought in his *** with 70,mile on the car for an oil change and the engine light was onThe advisor wrote up the concern with the customer and explained the diagnostic charge and the cost of the oil change
The total authorized amount prior to starting the work was $The charge to diagnose the engine light was $and the oil and filter change was $This is the exact total that the customer signed for before the work was startedThe technician scanned the system and found the code Pthat indicates a lack of fuel entering the engine (lean fuel mixture)Going through the diagnostic tables he finds that it isnt a lack of fuel it is too much air coming in from a leaking intake manifold gasketThe air is leaking into the side of the engine when it should be coming only through the air filterThe technician recommends replacing the leaking intake manifold gasket and servicing the fuel systemThe customer declines the repairs and he is charged the agreed upon diagnostic chargeNo refund is due to the customerThe diagnostic charge was explained for this very reason, in the event that he doesnt want the repair performedThe diagnostic charge as always will be applied to this repair if he would like it performed in the future
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 11, 2014/03/05) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
IF THIS WAS THE PRICE JUST FOR LABOR I WOULD HAVE JUST DONE THE OIL CHANGE & NOT HAVE HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSEDI WOULD NEVER PAY THAT PRICE JUST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEMLIKE I SAID I WOULD HAVE GONE TO AUTO ZONE & HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED FOR FREEI WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THIS WAS A LABOR CHARGE.THAT'S WHY I PUT A STOP PAYMENT ON THE CHARGEWHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR TO *** *** THEY DIDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AS BEING THE MANIFOLDI CAN SUBMIT A COPY OF THE DIAGNOSES THAT THEY CAME UP WITH FOR PROOF IF NEED BE
SINCERELY, *** ***
Final Business Response /* (4000, 9, 2014/03/05) */
I have attatched a copy of the repair order that the customer signed authorizing the work to be performed on the carThe check engine light comes on and stores the system information as a "code"This code just states what system the fault is inI agree that the retrieval of the code can be done at most auto parts stores for freeWe were asked to diagnose the reason the fault occuredThis is where the techican needs to spend the time to go step by step of the diagnostic tables to find the issue that caused to code to setIn this particular case the code would have pointed to a failed oxygen sensorThat was not the case on thisThe fault isnt a sensor it is the intake manifold leaking non-metered air into the engineWe never do work without an authorization from the customerWe dont want issues like thisWe explained the diagnositic labor charge prior even pulling the car inAgain, a refund is not dueWe performed the work that was authorized and if we do the repair that the car needs, the diagnostic charge is applied to the repair
