Sent: Friday, October 13, 10:AMSubject: Re: Complanit #*** Mrs*** is a lady who means well, yet has difficulty remembering previously discussions and decisions she has madeWe normally charge for any and every change order madeHowever, she told me of her many difficulties with her job and her husbands loss of work so I gave many finical concessions to help her outIn honor of full discloser, Mrs*** did warn me up front that she "was a contractor's worst nightmareMany found it difficult to work with me." (Perhaps Mrs*** would provide names and references of past contractors she has worked with?) I am not mad at her even though she shorted me on the last progress check I asked her for to bring her account currentNumerous times she would ask the tile subcontractor to change things after he had already gotten past that stateWe had a separate bid for painting the Kitchen cabinets and building new cabinet doorsI purchased the materials and had the carpenter start on building the doors then she decided not to add the doorsThat is when I told her we would not be able to paint the Kitchen cabinets and she needed to find someone elseShe does not understand that a price quote is for work discussed only (even though that was explained)If we touch it, it cost my subcontractors time and money so we need to charge for itShe thinks everything she wants (whatever that maybe in her mind that has not yet been revealed) is includedThat cannot be realistically done because I cannot see inside her headI said that exact statement to her after the many changesTherefore, I requested a photograph (not a hand drawing as she had given me before)The granite is another example of hearing what she wants to hearI explained to her the length of the vanity was too long not to have a seam and where the best place was to put itShe said it wasn't what she was hoping for but agreed prior to the installationAgain the bull noising was explained prior to installationWe did agree to paint but not for the original priceAny added items will require more moneyNo contractor can do it for nothingWe completed all that we could up to the point of no resolveI understand Mrs*** feels she did not get what she wanted but she got more than what she paid forI paid for all subcontractorsShe can ask for a larger settlement every time I respond to her allegations but the loss I have suffered will not be repaid by anyoneI am not seeking any finical compensation from her at this timeI just wish her the best and for her to try to find a contractor who can satisfy her remodeling needs.Thank you, Mark

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.   Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2017 10:58 AM Subject: Fwd: Estimate 294520 from Horizon Renovations LLCThis is the final Invoice. I did not pay for cabibet and install. The work was incomplete and even the Revdex.com suggests work must be completed to my satisfaction before paying. Other Items were paid such as granite wirh the wrong depth and edge that I "settled for". Hanging lights, fixtures were not compketely installed and painting/wall texture was even redone and still looks bad. VERY BAD. I asked his project manager, Ivan, if he had started building tge cabinet doors (2) for the Kitchen. He check with Mark and then told me no so at that point I said it was an unnecessary expense to which he agreed. Mark said in his response to Revdex.com  they already started.  [...] Sent: Tuesday, November 07, 2017 11:04 AM Subject: Re: Re open ![redacted]Yes but they have left me with a mess an no one wants to do the work without tearing it out and starting over. That will cost me 3-5 times as much. It would have cost him the same so it us easier to walk away than to stand behind your work. They get off free and clear and I am stuck with [redacted]. Is that how it works?   The.business makes a "kindhearted gesture" to walk away and not even be mad at me. But the consumer is [redacted].    Please help me understand because no contractor wants to finish his work. They all want to start over.

I regret hearing that Mrs. [redacted] has filed this complaint but I am not too surprised. I have been working in The Woodlands for over 11 years (by referral only) and in the construction business since 1980. This is the first complaint ever filed on me. I usually can work things out with customers...

very amicably when and if a problem occurs. Unfortunately, Mrs. [redacted] has a problem communicating her ideas and I asked for a picture so I could build her what she wanted and the way she wanted. She drew me a sketch that I tried to work from numerous time making different changes to no avail. That is why I requested a photograph so I could see what she was visualizing. I never received one and after many attempts, changes, and delays on her part for rethinking her design plan, I had to move on to other customers who were waiting on me to begin remolding their homes due the flooding of Harvey.   Even while subcontractors were in the house installing tile, granite, cabinets, etc., she would come in and talk about changing things. Most of my subcontractors refused to go back to that job because of the constant interruptions by her. The only time we could get any work done was between 10:00 and 2:00 while she was gone to work. Most of the subcontractors could not pronounce her last name so the all referred to that job as "Talk Talk House." She did not pay me for painting on the cabinets and it was not part of the original estimate because she said she had her own painter. Then she wanted us to paint the new bathroom cabinets as well as the Kitchen cabinets. I put the Kitchen cabinets on a separate invoice and was adding the price of painting the bathroom cabinets onto the original bid along with 5 other add-ons that were not part of the original work scope. She still owes me over $2000.00 for work already completed. The job was at 85% complete when I left. I do not wish to seek any more money from her as she has been removed from my client list.   Thank you for hearing my side,                                                    Mark Lewelling                                                    Horizon Renovations LLC
