Horizons at South Meadows charged an extra $200 at move out, exactly the amount of my deposit. These charges do not match the contract and the contract cleary states "assessed as required". When I noticed the charges and complained, they said that is the way they do it. I put a deposit for a unit at Horizon for 800 dollars at the end of April 2013 for a two bedroom apartment. My job fell through so I wasn't able to move in and was told I would lose my deposit and that would be it (which I was fine with). Two months later I got a letter from a collection agency demanding 2500 additional dollars for an early termination fee. Really? I didn't even move in the unit! This is total extortion and I have been put on a payment plan by the collection agency. The only reason Ive cooperated to this point is for my credit. Ive also been told that it matters not and my credit will be affected. This is preposterous. Anything you can do to help would be appreciated and hopefully it wont happen to anyone else.[redacted]:)Desired SettlementRemove the chargesBusiness Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted]Contact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted] signed a Nevada lease contract to move-in and only paid a $200 deposit. After having possession of the apartment for 2 weeks, he came to us and said that he quit his job and wanted to get out of the lease agreement. We explained that there is not a clause in the lease for job loss and the only way to break his lease would be to pay the termination fees and to reimburse concessions as it is stated in the legal documents he signed. Copies were provided to him at move in and at move out. We also sent him a final account statement in which he was aware of the charges that he was going to incur. Unfortunately, we had to send the account to collections since he did not make a payment within 30 days. We cannot drop these charges as we go strictly by the lease paperwork that he signed.Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I did NOT move into the apartment. That appears to be the confusion here. Horizon is fully aware that I never moved in and that is the point. I request all financial obligations be removed from my responsibility. I never took possession of the unit and should only forfeit the 800 dollars I gave them. 500 rent and a 300 deposit.Final Business Response Please refer to our first response to this complaint. He took possession of the keys and came to us after 2 weeks and said he quit his job. Again, we do not have a clause for job loss to let him out of his legal lease he signed. This is our final response that you will be receiving from us on this matter.
