Hostelworld Reviews (7)

I had an awful experience at smart holiday hostel in Venice which I booked through hostel worldI gave an honest review including notifying hostel world that they charged city tax and city tax is only required if breakfast is provided so that are being fraudulentAlso, the hostel did not provide lockers as was advertised and we were taken to a different location upon arrival and location was our main determining factor when bookingWe were not given a proper refund (especially given the advertising.) hostel world contacted me regarding my complaint and ultimately took it down as I chose not to stay at the locationIt is disappointing I pay more to use hostel worlds services only to find there are no reviews of people's worst experience when they choose to leave due to advertising and safety concernsFurthermore they didn't ask or offer pursuing a refund and didn't reassure me that the hostel posting would be altered to accurately represent the accommodationsI no longer trust booking through hostel worldIt was surprisingly hard to inform people of this absurd reviewing policy, most of what I have now found is angry blogs...perhaps that should be addressedA business that would rather not provide good services to their customers but rather keep affiliation with an awful business to increase revenue is shameful at least

Absolutely no guarantee, despite what they say in their website.
I booked, paid the reservation, received a confirmation. Next day, the hostel writes to me informing they won't host me because they require a minimum of 5 days. I contacted Hostelworld, and their final answer is that they can't force the hostel do host me, and offered NO GUARANTEE, not even for a different hostel. In the email, they also informed they refunded me, however 3 weeks has passed and I received no refund. I'm contacting my credit card now to reverse the charge.

I had an awful experience at smart holiday hostel in Venice which I booked through hostel world. I gave an honest review including notifying hostel world that they charged city tax and city tax is only required if breakfast is provided so that are being fraudulent. Also, the hostel did not provide lockers as was advertised and we were taken to a different location upon arrival and location was our main determining factor when booking. We were not given a proper refund (especially given the false advertising.) hostel world contacted me regarding my complaint and ultimately took it down as I chose not to stay at the location. It is disappointing I pay more to use hostel worlds services only to find there are no reviews of people's worst experience when they choose to leave due to false advertising and safety concerns. Furthermore they didn't ask or offer pursuing a refund and didn't reassure me that the hostel posting would be altered to accurately represent the accommodations. I no longer trust booking through hostel world. It was surprisingly hard to inform people of this absurd reviewing policy, most of what I have now found is angry blogs...perhaps that should be addressed... A business that would rather not provide good services to their customers but rather keep affiliation with an awful business to increase revenue is shameful at least.

Review: I made a reservation for a hostel stay in Busan, South Korea. Unfortunately the hostel canceled the reservation. Now hostelworld is not responding to my requests for a refund on my deposit. I would like the deposit and fee to book the hostel refunded since I cannot stay there.Desired Settlement: Refund my $15.15. This is the deposit and the deposit fee total.

Review: On 6/**/2014, I booked a hostel for one night's stay at [redacted] on 7/*/14, through [redacted]. In the confirmation page (booking reference number: [redacted]), it clearly stated with highlight that "TOTAL (taxes included): US$124.00", and "Amount Due On Arrival: US$109.12" after I paid their website $14.88 deposit (12% of the total). However, the hostel charged me a total of $124.89, which was in addition to the 12% deposit I've already paid.

After I was back from the hostel stay, I noticed the difference and contacted hostelworld.com immediately. [redacted] from the Customer Service Team contacted me, and asked me to provide the hostel receipt, credit card statements, etc., which I did. Then he discovered that there was a fine print saying that the price did not include the 14.45% taxes, therefore declined to refund the over-charges. I believe this was clearly different from their said booking charges. Regardless of whatever "fine print" says, the company should have precisely presented the price in the first place to the customer. If there are other charges to expect, then they should clearly present the information. However, in this case, the company clearly did not provide the accurate information and highlighted "taxes included" on my booking confirmation page. If the company did this intentionally, I believe this was clearly a fraud.Desired Settlement: Please refund the difference in charges: $124.89+$14.88 - $124 = $15.77.

Absolutely no guarantee, despite what they say in their website.

Review: Hollywood Youth Hostel ([redacted], phone: ###-###-####, email: [redacted]) had violated their terms about the age restriction that they only accept individuals from the ages of 18 - 35. They do not accept minors (under 18) or individuals over the age of 35 because they want to keep this hostel as a 'youth' hostel. They have stated this restriction everywhere, and have video surveillance throughout the hostel. They have allowed a couple of individuals, who are over the age restriction of 35, such as an individual named [redacted]. He is over 65 with 5 grandchildren, lived in room 16 during his stay (left on September ** 2014). I have complained to the [redacted], known as [redacted], but [redacted] tried to avoid the discussion and made it as if it is not his problem. He stated that I was hitting on him, but I did not. I was telling him that he is not doing his job as a [redacted] and that his response is outrageous because his attitude presents that he does not understand what customer service is.Desired Settlement: Refund and an apology from [redacted], the [redacted].
