Since we were being stationed at Fort Irwin, CA, my husband and I decided to make upgrades to sell our townhouse. We used House of Interiors for the following upgrades : 1. wood floor to replace existing sheet vinyl and powder room floor on Main Level, 2. new carpet throughout, 3. New tile floor in Guest Bath, and 4. New tile and tub surround in Master Bath.
In my ten years as an Interior Designer, I have never encountered such an unprofessional business. Which unfortunately, I had to deal with during renovations to my own house.
First, the owner, Mojy convinced us to use metal Schluter pieces to finish our tub surround, as opposed to using a bullnose tile. The finished product was not streamlined, as promised, and when pointed out, it was never fixed. As you can see in the photos, they are not set at a 90 degree angle, and the grout work is inconsistent in width.
Secondly, the owner suggest the order of work as follows: Demo Tile Floors, Install Tile Floors, Demo Wood Floors, Install Wood Floors, Demo Carpet, have our painter come in paint, Install Carpet. We agreed with the owner, and then he spoke to our painter without our knowledge, changed the schedule of work without speaking to us.
Thirdly, the tile work throughout was unprofessionally done, and we have many photos to prove it, showing:
Master Bath:
Cracked grout at threshold.
Unprofessional installment of threshold.
Schluter not aligned with tile and doesn't properly meet at all corners.
Unprofessionally finished grout.
Cracked grout, grout dried on tile.
Uneven and inconsistent grout widths.
Guest Bath:
Grout between threshold & tile is extremely large.
Inconsistent grout widths.
Unprofessionally finished grout.
Incomplete grout, and unprofessionally finished.
Also, dried grout in cabinets.
Kitchen:
Brand New Sink was ruined, because installers used sink as a janitor's sink.
Thick and messy grout lines.
Corners and underside of cabinet grout lines.
Grout is thick, irregular, rough, and dried on the cabinets and brand new microwave.
Fourthly, we asked House of Interiors to send their plumber to fix a water leak, and send us a quote to put the base of the pedestal. We only wanted the quote for the pedestal because the townhouse was under contract, and putting the base of the pedestal sink was in negotiations. Turned out that we didn't need to do it, and that the new owners would take care of the pedestal base. Mojy told the plumber to go ahead and do the work, putting us out another $180. When I spoke to the owner about this, he had the audacity to tell me he had done me a favor. I responded that favors are free, and that this is a business relationship, you can't just spend your clients money without approval. So his response was a threat to go back to the house and undo the work - even though, I told him that we agreed to pay for it, because the work has been completed.
Lastly, and this is the icing on the cake... my husband and I moved completely out of the house to CA, prior to all of this work being done. After the conversation regarding the pedestal sink, about a week later, we receive word from our realtor that there is extensive water damage. A fixture in the Master bath had leaked, causing extensive damage throughout all three levels, resulting in +/-$20,000 worth of damage. No one has been in the house since we moved out, except for the contractors. Furthermore, the last to touch the plumbing fixtures in the Master Bathroom, was House of Interiors when they removed the toilet, vanity, and installed new tile and tub surround.
Not only are we still incurring costs for all amenities, but we lost the potential sale of the house, and there is water damage that is costing more than the cost of the actual work we had done by House of Interiors. I highly recommend that you stay as far away from this company as possible. They are extremely dishonest, unprofessional, and there work is less than mediocre, at best.
