House of Scuba Reviews (2)

Review: On October 11, 2013 I scheduled a scuba tune-up or refresher course with this company for my father and myself, to have a private pool review session with an instructor prior to us leaving on vacation. It is important to point out the fact that my father and I both hold Advanced Diver Certifications from PADI, and choose to sign up for this course and is not required of us if we wish to go scuba diving as we already have our certifications as Advanced Trained Divers. The pool review session was scheduled for November 9, at 9 AM, and was suppose included one hour of classroom instruction and 1-2 hours of in water training at the Wavehouse pool in San Diego. On Friday, the day before I called the company in the early afternoon around 3PM to confirm that we had everything we needed for our refresher course. I had a concern over the fact that I have not picked up a review training manual which I was told was optional at the time I schedule the class because I still had my original training manuals from prior training session but decided to purchase only 1 because it was recommended. Note, two people are taking the course and if this text is really "required" why would they allow me to purchase only one manual? I also have an email from this company stating, "Requirements: Please read your SCUBA Review manual, or your Open Water Manual from previous training. Also, we will need to make a copy of your certification card and complete certified diver liability paperwork."

At 6:55 PM on Friday November 8, I receive a response from [redacted] in regards to my earlier concerns, and she stated they we would not be allowed to attend the training for the following day because we had not picked up the "required manual". She explained that the shop felt that we unprepared to attend a pool session and would have to reschedule because we could not pick up the training manual prior to them close at 7PM and the shop would not open until 9AM the next day. At which point I asked her to refund me my money if the company would not allow us to attend due a condition which they did not clearly specify as part of our agreement. The company has refused my request for a refund and has offered me a chance to reschedule for an additional fee of 50 dollars per diver which they claim they reduced from their standard fee of 100 dollars per diver and the cost of class is 99 dollars.

To summarize, the company received payment and has refused to honor its part of the contract: a one hour classroom review and 1-2 hour pool session with an instructor based on their claim that two Advanced Trained divers are unprepared and cannot be retrained or have an instructor refresh their memory with an hour of instruction on how to safely use our own gear which we have used on several occasions. My Advanced Diver certification number is [redacted] issued by PADI.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund.

Business

Response:

The customer was notified when signing up for the course that they needed to complete the required academic work before attending the confined water session. This work was not finished prior to the class which is required by PADI, the certifying organization.

This being said we have refunded the customer in full.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

The response by the business stating that coursework was required and needed to be completed prior to arriving at the pool session is false. The company did refund me my money after several phone calls, emails, filing a complaint with the Revdex.com, PADI, and my bank.

Regards,

Review: I ordered a travel scuba buoyancy control device online through [redacted].com on 23 April 2013 and paid $449.95. It never came. The buyer claimed that I refused the item, which is entirely untrue- I can't receive something I neither saw nor touched. I am left without my $449.95 and without the item I bought and paid for. Since the seller will not cooperate with me when I contacted him about the item, I want my money back.Desired Settlement: Entire refund for the item - $449.95.

Response:

We received the package back from the shipping company ([redacted]) with a "Package refused" label attached to it. The customer says he received it 1 day later then he thought it was going to arrive.

The customer has been refunded his money back to their [redacted] account minus the cost of the shipping fees to and from.
