How Properties

We rented from How properties for 1.5 years. In Nov 2019, we found a house that we put an offer on. When the offer was accepted, we informed HOW that we would need to terminate our lease for which there are 3 options. 1) pay 1 months' rent and show the apartment to prospects and hand them over to HOW when they are ready to apply, 2) pay 2 months' rent, have HOW show the property and get a prospect to take over the apartment or 3) sublease with a fee. We chose the 1st option to save from paying 2 months' worth of rent. Additionally, I did not feel comfortable paying the company to find a prospect when they have no incentive to do so. The first serious prospect we found was in contact with HOW in regard to their application in the middle of Dec. Dec 23rd we received an email from How stating that we had to be moved out by 12:00, noon on Dec 28th with the apartment cleaned as well as the keys and fob left on the counter. My husband and I took off the week to make sure it was done and were moved out with all of the above done on the 28th of Dec. 3 Weeks later we reached out to HWO about our security deposit only to receive an email stating that the email we received in regards to our expected move out was an automated email and that no one had applied for the apartment. At that point, I reached out to the prospect who had been in contact with them prior and learned that HOW sent him an email stating the apartment was no longer available. I then reached out to HOW with a screenshot of this and after this they let him apply, stating they didn't know how this happened. He was eventually denied so again we were left to find another tenant. Since then, we have sent over countless prospects and heard that it took days for How to send out an app or even communicate with them. They have gone 2 weekends (4 days each) without any communication which has turned other prospects away. Their actions are impeding us from renting our apartment and we will be left paying them monthly until we rent.
